.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure centered over the western North Atlantic will continue
to bring hot weather into Monday. A frontal boundary is expected to
drop into our region from the northwest on Monday night. An area of
high pressure is forecast to slide from the Great Lakes to the
northeastern states on Tuesday and Wednesday. Another frontal
boundary is anticipated to arrive from the northwest late on
Thursday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The hot conditions continue through Saturday, however dew points
will be mostly low enough to keep the heat indices closer to the air
temperatures.

An upper-level trough will remain across central and eastern Canada
through Saturday. This results in the flow aloft across our region
being more zonal. There area a couple of ripples of energy within
this flow, one of which is a mesoscale convective vortex (MCV) that
is moving across southeastern New York and on its way into southern
New England this afternoon. Another piece of energy will be coming
out of the Great Lakes region this afternoon and will track mostly
across New York state this evening.

A mesoanalysis this afternoon shows the surface-based instability
(SBCAPE) is being held down a decent amount compared to yesterday
given much lower dew points across much of the region. There is
still enough instability combined with 20-35 knots of effective
shear that will support some convection. The main area where
isolated to scattered showers/thunder will occur into this evening
will be across the northwest and northern zones (mainly north of I-
78) tied to a passing but gradually decaying MCV. The downdraft
instability (DCAPE) is at or above 1000 J/kg given the deeper dry
air therefore convective elements that have a stronger core aloft
will have the potential to produce a locally strong downburst. There
could be also a shower or storm that tries to initiate in coastal
New Jersey to southern Delaware near and along a sea breeze, however
the air above the boundary layer might be dry enough to preclude any
development. The sea breeze has resulted in significant cooling
right along much of the coast. Any convection will dissipate through
this evening, and the incoming weak wave from the west looks to
arrive late enough and therefore no convection is anticipated with
that.

It will be a warm night especially in the I-95 corridor to the south
and east where dew points are expected to recover during the night,
otherwise a quite night is anticipated.

As we go through Saturday, a more zonal flow remains across our
region south of the central to eastern Canadian upper-level trough.
There remains embedded shortwaves traversing the more zonal flow
with a more pronounced one arriving across eastern Pennsylvania and
northern New Jersey toward evening. Despite the pocket of energy
arriving by late afternoon, the atmospheric parameters and also weak
forcing look to temper any convective development. As a result, we
continued to keep the forecast precipitation free at this point.

The 850 mb temperatures Saturday are forecast to be around +21C.
This will allow for afternoon temperatures to top out into the mid
and upper 90s across much of the area (cooler in the Poconos).
Lingering dry air in concert with substantial boundary layer
heating will result in the dew points lowering once again especially
during peak heating from the I-95 corridor north and west. While
this will help reduce the heat indices some and many spots may
technically fall just shy of the 100F advisory criteria, this is a
cumulative event which can certainly have more impacts. Since the
air temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s and factoring in
the cumulative aspect of this heat, we opted to expand the Heat
Advisory to include all areas with the exception of Carbon and
Monroe counties. It will be another very warm night for many places
with temperatures only dropping into the mid to upper 70s.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
High pressure located over the western north Atlantic will maintain
a southwesterly flow of hot and increasing humid air in our region
for Saturday night into Sunday. It continues to appears as though
Sunday will be the peak of the heat and humidity with widespread
heat index values in the 100 to 108 range in our region. The Heat
Advisory has been expanded to cover all our counties from Berks, the
Lehigh Valley and northwestern New Jersey down to southern Delaware
and the Maryland counties of Caroline and Talbot. The coastal strip
has not been included in the advisory due to the moderating effects
of the ocean. Also, the urban corridor around Wilmington,
Philadelphia and Trenton has been upgraded to an Excessive Heat
Warning.

Overnight low temperatures on Saturday night should be mostly in the
70s, with highs on Sunday generally in the 95 to 100 degree range.
Dew point readings are expected to be around 70 in the afternoon.

The pattern will keep the heat and humidity in place in our region
into Monday. Temperatures on Sunday night will be rather oppressive,
mainly in the middle and upper 70s. Some urban locations will likely
not fall below the lower 80s, adding to the danger from the
prolonged heat spell.

A trend toward increasing cloud cover with precipitation approaching
from the northwest should result in maximum temperatures being
mostly in the 90 to 95 degree range on Monday. We may need to extend
the Excessive Heat Warning/Heat Advisory for some locations as the
humidity will likely remain high.

A short wave trough traveling in the mid level westerly flow is
forecast to push a frontal boundary toward our region from the
northwest. We will indicate an increasing chance of showers and
thunderstorms from the northwest on Monday afternoon. Precipitable
water values are expected to rise above 2 inches at that time as the
column of moisture deepens. Locally heavy rain is possible. Also,
the speed and directional shear will be on the increase with a high
potential for the development of organized convective cells.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Showers and thunderstorms will continue for Monday night, and into
Tuesday. The cold front will stall over the Delmarva peninsula and
southern New Jersey. This will result in rather unsettled conditions
over those areas for Tuesday. Looking at mid to high end chc PoPs
down that way, with the best chance for rain/thunderstorms during
the afternoon/early evening. High pressure will try to work its way
in from the north, with only a slight or even on mentionable PoPs in
for North Jersey and the Poconos. The relief from the heat will come
by Tuesday as highs will be more seasonable, hovering in the mid to
upper 80s.

The stalled front looks to lift north on Wednesday as a warm front,
and with a shortwave coming through late Wednesday, another
unsettled day is on tap. Rain chances look to be lower compared to
Tuesday, with slight chc/low end chc PoPs in the forecast at this
time. Behind the warm front, dewpoints will increase and heat
indices will begin to rise again, getting into the mid 90s. High
temperatures look to be in the upper 80s/low 90s.

Another closed low will move through eastern Canada later next week
with an associated surface cold front moving through our area on
Thursday. The warm front will be just north of the area on Thursday
morning, leaving the entire region in the warm sector. Heat indices
look to approach triple digits as humidity ramps up even further. A
lot up in the air regarding the timing of the front, but confidence
is increasing that showers and thunderstorms will affect the region
towards the end of next week. PWATs look to be around/just over 2
in. meaning any storms that develop could produce some heavy
rainfall. As we get closer, details will be straightened out
regarding any hazardous impacts.

.AVIATION /20Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of this afternoon...VFR with scattered cumulus with bases
between 5000-8000 feet. An isolated shower or thunderstorm is
possible mainly in the vicinity of RDG/ABE, but given rather low
coverage expected a mention is not included in the TAFs. West to
southwest winds 8-12 knots, however southeasterly at ACY due to a
sea breeze. Some local gusts to 15-20 knots possible at times.
Moderate confidence.

Tonight...VFR. Southwest winds 5-10 knots, becoming light and
variable at most terminals. Moderate confidence.

Saturday...VFR with some cumulus developing with bases around 5000
feet. Light and variable winds, becoming west to southwest 5-10
knots. A sea breeze may result in winds become south to southeast at
ACY in the afternoon. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Saturday night...Mainly VFR with some local MVFR restrictions
possible after 06Z. Southwest wind 8 knots or less. High confidence.

Sunday...Mainly VFR. Southwest wind around 10 knots. High confidence.

Sunday night...Mainly VFR with some local MVFR ceilings possible
after 06Z. Southwest wind 5 to 10 knots. High confidence.

Monday...Mainly VFR. An increasing chance of showers and
thunderstorms in the afternoon. The thunderstorms may be accompanied
by heavy rain and IFR conditions. Southwest wind around 10 knots.
Medium confidence.

Monday Night...sub-VFR conditions likely with showers and
thunderstorms moving through. Southwest winds around 5 to 10 kt.
Moderate confidence.

Tuesday through Tuesday Night...sub VFR conditions possible,
especially for terminals south and east of KPHL due to scattered
showers and thunderstorms. Generally west winds around 5 to 10 kt.
Low confidence.

Wednesday through Wednesday Night...slight chance of showers and
thunderstorms otherwise VFR. North winds in the morning will shift
to the south/southwest during the afternoon as a warm front lifts
north/northeast. Winds around 5 to 10 kt. Low confidence.

.MARINE...
The conditions are expected to remain below Small
Craft Advisory criteria through Saturday.

Outlook...

Saturday night and Sunday...No marine headlines are anticipated.

Sunday night and Monday...South to southwest wind 15 to 20 knots
with gusts around 25 knots. Waves on our ocean waters are forecast
to build to 4 to 6 feet.

Monday Night...sub-VFR conditions likely with showers and
thunderstorms moving through. Southwest winds around 5 to 10 kt.
Moderate confidence.

Tuesday through Tuesday Night...sub VFR conditions possible,
especially for terminals south and east of KPHL due to scattered
showers and thunderstorms. Generally west winds around 5 to 10 kt.
Low confidence.

Wednesday through Wednesday Night...slight chance of showers and
thunderstorms otherwise VFR. North winds in the morning will shift
to the south/southwest during the afternoon as a warm front lifts
north/northeast. Winds around 5 to 10 kt. Low confidence.

Rip Currents...

Through tonight, Southerly winds 10-15 mph will diminish some by
later this evening. Breaking waves of 2 to 3 feet with a
southeasterly medium period swell are expected. There is a MODERATE
risk for the development of dangerous rip currents.

For Saturday, west to southwest winds around 10 mph will turn more
from the south as a sea breeze develops once again. Breaking waves
of 1 to 3 feet with a southeasterly medium period swell are
expected. Given the sea breeze influence, a MODERATE risk for the
development of dangerous rip currents is possible for much of the
New Jersey coast but LOW for the Delaware beaches.
