At 1148 PM EST, a snow squall was located along a line extending
from near the Delaware Water Gap to near Greenwood Lake. Movement
was southeast at 35 mph.

Park, East Hanover, Lincoln Park, Kinnelon, Hackettstown, Chatham,

.SYNOPSIS...
An Arctic cold front will move into the area tonight, before high
pressure builds into the region Tuesday. The high then moves offshore
Tuesday night, while a warm front lifts across the area. A cold
front and clipper system are expected to move across the area
on Thursday. Several low pressure systems are forecast to move
near the area, but remain offshore of the Mid Atlantic coast
later this week, this weekend, and early next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A reinforcing cold front will be moving through the region
tonight, as a larger-scale upper trough swings through the
Northeast. Plenty of lake-effect snow bands exist in New York
and western/central Pennsylvania this evening and a few may move
across our northern counties over the next few hours as the
front moves by. We have raised pops to chc range with some of
the radar returns looking more interesting lately. Minor accums
are possible across the southern Poconos or north NJ as the
front moves thru.
Main story will be the cold, with breezy northwest winds
continuing after the front's passage. With strong cold advection
in the wake of the front, wind chills will be low in the area.
For the southern Poconos, they will be flirting with advisory
criteria, but aside from some brief instances of wind chills
near -15 in the most exposed and highest elevations, think
conditions will generally remain sub-advisory. Of course, it
will be cold, and if not properly bundled up, dangerously cold.
Lows tonight will be in the single digits in the southern
Poconos and in the teens elsewhere.
Highs on Tuesday will be sub-freezing everywhere. In fact, it is
unlikely anyone gets to 30. Breezy conditions will continue but
should begin to diminish in the afternoon as the pressure
gradient relaxes via an approaching surface ridge. Dry
conditions will continue, with mostly sunny skies expected.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
On Tuesday night, the high pressure builds offshore, while a warm
front lifts northward across the Mid Atlantic region. Return flow
develops across the region for Wednesday and Wednesday night. After
another cold night Tuesday night, temperatures rebound close to or
even above normal for Wednesday and Wednesday night. With a lack of
moisture and lift, a dry forecast is expected through Wednesday
night.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
An active storm pattern is expected for the end of this week into
the weekend and early next week, although the forecast is currently
for the storms to remain mostly to our south or offshore. However, a
slight shift north and westward could mean a drastic change to the
forecast, so we will have to keep a close watch on the forecasts the
next several days.
On Thursday, a cold front and weak clipper system are forecast to
move across the area from the west, while an area of low pressure
develops offshore of the southeast/Carolina coasts. The current
expectation is that the front and clipper system remain fairly weak
as they move across the area, before the low pressure offshore takes
over and strengthens as it moves to the northeast offshore of the
east coast through Friday into Friday night. If the storm stays
offshore as the guidance indicates, the only precipitation during
the Thursday through Friday period would be a few rain or snow
showers Thursday or Thursday night. Any shift westward could bring a
greater chance of precipitation to the area.
On Saturday and Saturday night, high pressure builds across
southeastern Canada, nosing its way southward into the Mid Atlantic
region. Meanwhile, a clipper system is forecast to dive across the
Mississippi Valley and across the Tennessee Valley Saturday,
eventually across the southeastern states Saturday night. The storm
then moves offshore of the southeast states, then northeast well of
the coast through Sunday. We remain north of the precipitation
shield, but again, any shift north and westward could bring a
greater chance of precipitation to the area.
Another clipper system is forecast to make its way across the Great
Lakes and toward the northeast/Mid Atlantic states early next week,
which could bring another chance of precipitation to the area.

.AVIATION /02Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Through Tuesday...VFR with northwest winds 10 to 20 kt with
gusts to 25 kt. Speeds and gusts, which have lowered this
evening, will increase again overnight and Tuesday morning.
Speeds and gusts should lower again Tuesday afternoon.
Outlook...
Tuesday night-Wednesday night...Mostly VFR conditions expected.
Light and variable winds Tuesday night, becoming southwest 5-15
knots with gusts 15-20 knots Wednesday, then light and variable
Wednesday night.
Thursday-Thursday night...Mostly VFR early in the day, then MVFR
ceilings possible later Thursday into Thursday evening. West winds
around 5 knots during the day, becoming north to northwest 5-15
knots with gusts 20-30 knots overnight.
Friday-Saturday...Mostly VFR conditions return by Friday morning.

.MARINE...
Small-craft advisory conditions are expected to continue through
at least tomorrow morning, with a reinforcing front tonight
bringing even colder air over the relatively warm waters. Not
out of the question some gale-force gusts are observed, but
models are currently below thresholds. Thus, decided to convert
the gale watch tonight to a small craft advisory for now, with
the caveat that a short-fused warning may be required if winds
end up gustier than forecast. Winds should rapidly diminish on
Tuesday, with sub-advisory conditions likely by afternoon. Seas
of 3 to 5 feet are likely on the Atlantic waters through
Tuesday.
Another concern is for freezing spray. Conditions are quite
favorable for some accretion on vessels near the coast tonight
(where water temperatures are near or below 40 degrees),
including most of Delaware Bay. With very cold air set to move
into the area tonight, freezing spray potential is high. Have
issued a freezing spray advisory for all of the waters tonight;
notably, the potential for freezing spray drops quickly beyond 5
to 10 nm offshore, where water temperatures remain in the mid
to upper 40s.
