.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure builds across our area today before shifting offshore
into tonight. Low pressure tracks from the Great Lakes Tuesday to
the Saint Lawrence River Valley Tuesday night. An associated cold
front crosses our region Wednesday afternoon. High pressure then
builds to our north, however it wedges down into our area Thursday
into Friday. An area of low pressure then arrives from the southwest
later Thursday into Friday, followed by high pressure building in
during Saturday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Cold temperatures this morning as the wind has finally abated.
Brilliant sunshine through the day as high pressure dominates
our weather. No significant changes made with the 7 am update.
Improving conditions today as surface high pressure skirts just to
our south over the Delmarva Peninsula and brings clear skies and
much calmer winds. Breezy conditions with remnant CAA this
morning will quickly subside through the noon timeframe before
return flow behind the high commences out of the southwest. With
a weak mid-level ridge moving overhead and weak WAA over the
region, high temperatures will recover decently from the cold
conditions this morning. The result is highs making it into the
mid to upper 30s, not too bad considering the ferocity of the
antecedent cold front that brought the snow squalls. Clear skies
and sunny conditions will add a few points to the forecast as
well.
Continued southerly advection through tonight will result in a
slightly warmer overnight. Advection will have to battle the clear
skies. however, but southwesterly winds continuing through the night
will also work to keep things a little milder through the night.
Lows look to drop into the mid 20s north of I-78 and in the upper
20s to lower 30s from the urban corridor south. Southwesterly winds
from 5 to 10 mph through the night.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
A more zonal flow is forecast to back some in response to a
shortwave trough riding northeastward up the Ohio Valley Monday
night into Tuesday. Meanwhile, surface high pressure will continue
to be centered well to our east which will help to enhance the
southerly flow. Monday and Monday night looks dry, but it will be
much milder thanks to low-level warm air advection on the backside
of the offshore surface high and the surface low well to our west.
Clouds will be on the increase however, mainly Monday night which
will keep the overnight temperatures from dropping as much.
As we go through Tuesday, a surface low tracks up the Ohio Valley
then into the eastern Great Lakes by late afternoon. Increasing low-
level warm air advection to the east of this feature will assist in
generating increasing forcing for ascent. This will also become
enhanced with the arrival of a 50-60 knot 850 mb jet. An area of
rain is therefore expected to overspread our area especially Tuesday
afternoon and evening, then things should dry out during the
overnight Tuesday as the main forcing shifts to our northeast and we
then await the cold front to arrive. Despite the rain Tuesday, deep
southerly flow and warm air advection will result in temperatures
getting well into the 50s for much of the area with even some areas
in the coastal plain away from the coast getting to 60 or even into
the low 60s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Summary...Very mild to start then turning colder with even some
wintry precipitation forecast.
Synoptic Overview...A ridge centered to our south gets pushed
farther south and east Wednesday and Thursday as a shortwave trough
slides by to our north. An upper-level trough is then forecast to
eject into the Central Plains Thursday and quickly translate
northeastward across the Great Lakes Thursday night into Friday.
This drives surface low pressure up the Ohio Valley, however strong
surface high pressure across Canada is wedged down into our region.
This setup is very favorable for cold air damming and overrunning,
along with a secondary surface low development near the Mid-Atlantic
coast. This storm shifts to our northeast by Friday evening with the
flow aloft turning more zonal again. This allows surface high
pressure to build into our area during Saturday.
For Wednesday...As a shortwave trough lifts across parts of
southeastern Canada, surface low pressure will be well to our north.
An associated cold front however will move across our area during
the day. We will be well within the warm sector for a while though
with temperatures well into the 60s for much of the area. Much of
the dynamics however are northeast of our region and therefore not
much may accompany the actual cold front. Still cannot rule out some
showers near and with the cold front as it moves through during the
afternoon. The main low-level cold air push is forecast to occur
Wednesday night, especially during the overnight, as strong and cold
high pressure builds across the Great Lakes and adjacent Canada and
starts to wedge southward into the Mid-Atlantic. This will set the
stage for the return of some wintry weather as we go through
Thursday.
For Thursday and Friday...While confidence in the details is on the
low side, the synoptic setup favors a cold air damming situation
across much of our area. Shortwave trough sliding across the Great
Lakes will support surface low pressure riding up the Ohio Valley or
the spine of the Applachians. The affects of cold high pressure
centered to our north for a time results in cold air damming and
favors a secondary surface low forming just off the Mid-Atlantic
coast. The ensemble guidance differs at least some in the placement
and even strength of this feature, which will greatly impact the
thermal fields across our area. There certainly is the potential for
a wintry mix for at least parts of our area, and if the colder
guidance is correct then a period of accumulating snow could occur
mainly north of the I-78 corridor. Plenty of time to watch this
system evolve and therefore changes will likely occur to the
forecast. Given the uncertainty with the details at this time range,
kept the precipitation types more simple with a rain, snow or
rain/snow mix. Quick drying and improving conditions should occur
later Friday and especially Friday night as the entire system is to
our northeast.
For Saturday...In the wake of the aformentioned storm, the flow
aloft turns more zonal for a time. Surface high pressure therefore
builds eastward and over our area during Saturday. Cold but dry
conditions are currently forecast associated with this incoming
strong surface high.

KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Today...VFR. Light westerly winds increasing as they back to the
south-southwest this afternoon from 5 to 10 knots with occasional
gusts to 15 knots. High confidence.
Tonight...VFR. Southwesterly winds from 5 to 10 knots with a few
gusts to 15 knots through 06Z. High confidence.
Outlook...
Monday...VFR, with increasing clouds mainly at night. Southwest
winds 5-10 knots, becoming southeast at night 5 knots or less.
Moderate confidence.
Tuesday...VFR ceilings lowering to MVFR or IFR. Periods of rain
developing especially in the afternoon and evening with visibilities
lowering to MVFR/IFR at times. Southeast to south winds around 10
knots. Moderate confidence.
Wednesday...MVFR/IFR conditions are possible in the morning,
otherwise VFR. Southwest winds around 10 knots, becoming northwest
in the afternoon. Moderate confidence.
Thursday...Developing MVFR/IFR conditions probable with the arrival
of precipitation (some wintry precipitation probable). North to
northeast winds 5-10 knots. Low confidence.

.MARINE...
Sub-advisory conditions expected on the waters today as the
early morning SCA was allowed to expire. Westerly winds will
turn southwesterly from 10 to 15 knots with gusts increasing to
20 knots in the afternoon. Seas from 2 to 3 feet.
SCA conditions return tonight with southwesterly winds increasing to
near or just above 25 knots, especially on the northern Atlantic
waters. Seas will increase to 3 to 5 feet.
