.SYNOPSIS...
An upper-level low will remain over the Northeastern U.S.
through Saturday, leading to continued unsettled weather. High
pressure will build into the region Sunday and Monday before
sliding offshore into the middle part of next week as a stronger
storm system organizes across the central portions of the
country.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Surface low pressure is forecast to progress northward over the
waters off Delaware and New Jersey overnight before reaching
southern New England toward daybreak.
A mid level short wave trough was lifting to the north over our
region this evening. It was responsible for the showers
(moderate to heavy at times) and the embedded thunderstorms. The
back edge of the precipitation associated with the system had
reached upper Chesapeake Bay by 9:00 PM. The precipitation will
end from southwest to northeast in our region by 2:00 AM.
We will continue with the Flood Watch until 2:00 AM. The
potential for severe weather that existed in eastern Maryland
and southern Delaware has come to an end as conditions there
continue to stabilize.
Once the showers move away, gradual clearing is anticipated.
The wind is forecast to settle into the northwest and west
around 5 to 10 MPH. Lows tonight should favor the 40s.
Heading into Friday...while the first portion of the day looks
dry, scattered showers will develop into the afternoon as the
deep cutoff upper level low shifts eastward into the Northeast.
Given the steep low-level lapse rates, there is a good chance
that we could see some graupel and small hail with these showers
as just enough MLCAPE should lift moisture above the freezing
level. Otherwise expect variable cloud cover and breezy
conditions with highs mostly in the upper 50s to low 60s.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Upper level low will be gradually translating east through this
period. As a result, could see additional rounds of showers
Saturday and Sunday before the main trough axis is finally east
of our region. However, we are also expecting continued dry air
advection through this period. Consequently, moisture will be
limited so any precipitation through this period should be
light.
The northwesterly flow especially Saturday night into Sunday
will also result in cold air advection. On both days
temperatures will be below normal. Highs on Saturday will be 5
to 10 degrees below normal ranging from the mid 40s to mid 50s.
Sunday may be the coldest day of the next 7 days, with highs in
the 40s to lower 50s.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
In the wake of the upper level trough, a surface high is
expected to build from the south while in the mid and upper
levels a large ridge begins to build over the eastern seaboard.
As mentioned by the previous shift, there is quite a bit of
variability between models with regards to how quickly this
ridge will shift east and if we will see any embedded short wave
troughs within the larger scale flow. For now, have gone close
to a model blend, with only slight chance mentions of precip in
the Monday through Tuesday period.
The other story through the Monday/Tuesday period will be warm
air advection thanks to the subsidence with the ridge and low
level southwesterly flow. By Monday, highs will be mostly in the
70s across the region.
For Wednesday and Thursday, attention turns to the large closed
low over the central U.S.. This low is expected to eventually
bring a cold front or occluded front through our region. Just
ahead of and with this front will be the next chance for a
widespread rain event. However, the question is when this will
happen. Most guidance is depicting the front staying well west
of our region until after next Thursday, but at least one
deterministic model (GFS) is more progressive, depicting the
front arriving late Thursday. Given the pattern with the
deepening low, this is far more progressive than what we
typically see. Thus, for now, expect the warm (and mostly dry)
weather to continue through Thursday.

The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Overnight...IFR conditions through about 04Z with showers and
embedded thunderstorms. Conditions improving through MVFR to VFR
after 04Z with the potential for rain ending. Southeast to east
wind around 10 knots, becoming northwest. Medium to high
confidence.
Friday...VFR. West to southwest wind around 10 knots. High
confidence.
Outlook...
Saturday and Sunday...Mostly VFR conditions are expected,
though there is a chance that brief MVFR ceilings could develop
for some of this period. Westerly and northwesterly winds 5 to
15 kt. Moderate confidence.
Monday through Tuesday...Mostly VFR conditions. Southwesterly
and southerly winds 5 to 15 kt. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
The Small Craft Advisory has been cancelled for Delaware Bay
but it continues for our ocean waters. It is possible there
could be a few wind gusts to 35 knots or so off the NJ coast.
Also, showers with embedded storms moving over the waters could
result in locally higher wind gusts. Small Craft Advisory
conditions will linger through Friday over the ocean zones due
to elevated seas (winds will diminish overnight).
Outlook...
Friday night through Saturday...On the coastal waters, elevated
seas may linger, though confidence is low on how quickly seas
will decrease below 5 feet. Otherwise, winds and seas should
stay below SCA criteria.
Sunday through Tuesday...Winds and seas should stay below SCA
criteria, though northwesterly wind gusts above 20 kt will be
possible on Sunday..
