.SYNOPSIS...
A slow moving weather system will move across the region this
weekend. This will lead to increasing chances for showers and
isolated thunderstorms and cooler temperatures. A few storms this
weekend may produce brief heavy rain. Temperatures are expected
to rebound back towards normal values by the middle of next week
along with drier conditions as shower chances retreat to mainly
mountain locations.

.DISCUSSION...
Tonight through Sunday night: The eastern edge of a large area of
low pressure straddling the coast will continue to focus a cluttered
moist southerly flow over Eastern Washington and North Idaho
tonight. By Saturday however the higher magnitude steering flow on
the east edge of the low is pushed further eastward into North
Idaho. This will allow for more instability with a significantly
slower, or even no, steering flow to park over portions of Okanogan
and Ferry counties. With the complex terrain and numerous burn scars
in those two counties a flood watch for possible flash flooding due
to slow to no storm motion in in effect for Saturday and Saturday
night. The low is more of a intense trof Sunday and its progress
eastward is quite slow so enough conditional instability will remain
to keep mentions of showers and thunderstorms in various shape/form
Sunday that show a slow translation eastward and by Sunday night the
mention is restricted to just North Idaho with slight chance pops.
With such an unseasonably cool low/trof lingering overhead or in the
vicinity thru this forecast interval forecast daytime high
temperatures will remain considerably on the cool side of what would
be considered normal for this time of year. Overnight lows are on
the cool side as well but not as much since considerable cloud cover
is expected to linger which will inhibit efficient radiational

Monday through Friday: The trough has moved off into the northern
plains with a shortwave ridge moving in Monday. This is shortlived
as the next low pressure system will begin to move down the
Canadian coast line Tuesday and flatten the ridge. There are still
some discrepancies on the trough, but it looks to move into
southern BC with general southwest to westerly flow across the
Inland NW for the work week.
The best chance of showers and thunderstorms will be Monday as the
trough is pulling away. The area of greatest concern would be the
ID Panhandle and parts of northeastern WA. After that, there
could be periods of light mountain showers along the Canadian
border, but otherwise a dry week on tap.
Temperatures will be near or below normal through the week. That
equates to daytime temps in the upper 60s to low 80s and lows in
the upper 40s and 50s. We will likely be breaking our latest 80
degrees reached at Spokane Airport record as there is nothing
close to 80 in the forecast through the entire 7 day period. Most
models are suggesting the 26th or later.
Winds will generally be light, but in the
afternoon and early evening hours there could be some isolated
gusts 15-25 mph across portions of the Columbia Basin, Palouse and
up to the West Plains.
Outlook: Next weekend is looking like near average temperatures
and mainly dry. Some models (about 10 out of 100) indicating some
light rain Sat night into Sun morning. /Nisbet

.AVIATION...
00Z TAFS: A large area of low pressure off the coast will keep a
moist southerly flow cluttered with small scale disturbances.
Those disturbances have potential to produce shower and
thunderstorm activity regardless of time of day as both surface
based and elevated forced convection. As such VFR should still
prevail however near some of the showers MVFR visibilities are a
