This band will lift north with no sensible impacts at the surface. Models have continued with warmer solution for the weekend system. This takes the sfc low farther to the north/northeast across the Upper Midwest. Models have also diminished the chances of precipitation until Friday night, with more widespread precipitation Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. Initial wave will bring a round of light wintry mix before freezing drizzle and drizzle develop across eastern MN and western WI. There is still uncertainty regarding air temperatures during this period but most locations should be within a few degrees either side of 32f. An area of deeper moisture and more focused isentropic lift will lead to a better chance at some sustained freezing rain early Saturday morning. A glaze of ice accumulation is likely, a few hundredths up to a tenth is possible across western WI. A lull in activity is likely Saturday afternoon ahead of the main wave moves through. Western and portions of central MN will see wintry mix develop with snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain all possible. A light glaze of ice is likely. There was discussion with neighboring WFOs about a potential headline, but it was decided to wait for another model run to see if there would be more consistency in the warmer solution. Warm front will lift through and temperatures warm into the 40 and 50s across southern Minnesota. SPC has a day 3 marginal risk with thunderstorms likely across southern Minnesota, but the severity is questionable. The other aspect to this storm system is whether enough moisture on the back side of it will produce measurable snowfall. Again, this is based on the current model trends and thus any slight shift would cause the significant differences on amounts and location of these winter weather elements. The best potential of several inches of snowfall remains across west & central Minnesota Saturday night into Sunday morning. Past Sunday, the pattern shifts to a more northwest flow aloft. Thus, cooler conditions will likely follow this weekends storm system. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Friday night) Issued at 1100 PM CST Thu Mar 3 2022 VFR for most of the TAF period before our next system moves in on Friday night bringing MVFR CIGS, rain, and snow. Winds will remain light overnight before increasing during the day on Friday. Expect easterly to southeasterly winds of 10 to 15 knots with gusts up around 20 knots. As the system moves in Friday evening LLWS will be present especially for the more eastern TAF sites (MSP, RNH, EAU, and possibly MKT). There is less than 30 percent chance for precipitation before 06Z, so it is only included in the MSP TAF. KMSP... VFR to continue overnight into Friday with lowering ceilings starting in the evening into Friday night reaching into MVFR. Winds will pick up during the day on Friday up into the 10 to 15 knot range with gusts up around 20 knots. As the next system moves in expect LLWS in the evening into the following overnight period.
