Flood Warning for the following rivers in Minnesota...
Minnesota River At New Ulm affecting Brown, Blue Earth and
Nicollet Counties.
.Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall over the past week will cause
the Minnesota River at New Ulm to rise above Minor flood stage late
this weekend. The river is expected to continue to rise, nearing
Moderate flood stage by mid-next week.
For the Minnesota River...including Montevideo, Dawson, Granite
Falls HWY 212, Morton, New Ulm, Mankato, Henderson MN19, Jordan,
Savage...Major flooding is forecast.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

.After a period of heavy rainfall that lead to these river rises

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN 619 AM CDT Sat May 14 2022 .DISCUSSION...(Today through Friday) Issued at 201 AM CDT Sat May 14 2022 KEY MESSAGES: - Quieter weather through the middle of next week Today through Sunday... We will see multiple waves swing around the upper low over southern Canada that will bring us some small chances for rain. The common theme for all of them will be a very dry atmosphere below 10k feet, with deeply mixed and dry afternoon boundary layers. So lots of dry air that will really limit our precip potential. The first wave was north Aberdeen, SD at 1am and has had a small cluster of showers and storms going back to Friday evening. This wave will head for northern MN, with its precip expected to stay north of the MPX area this morning. Next chance for rain comes with a wave moving into western ND early this morning. This wave will go across northern MN as well later today, but it will send a cold front across our area. This front will be moving into western WI during max diurnal heating. This is where we could see an isolated shower, but a dry boundary layer looks to really hamper our chances of seeing measurable precip. Instability looks to be on the order of a few hundred j/kg, but given the inverted V soundings, we could see some gusty winds develop with any stronger cells as we see sub-cloud evaporation drive the potential for some downbursts, but it's a pretty minimal severe chance. Next wave tonight is tied a shortwave that will be going across SoDak toward Iowa. Trend with guidance overnight wast to hold this precip farther south, closer to a bit of an enhancement in southerly h85 winds that will come into southern IA, so have precip chances tonight into Sunday morning confined to along the I-90 corridor. The last shot at precip comes Sunday afternoon, when diurnal heating and convergence along a surface trough may be enough to spark some isolated showers down into central MN. Monday through Wednesday... During this period, we'll see the Canadian upper low from this weekend push off to the east, with shallow upper ridging building in from the west that will be flattening out into a mostly zonal flow by Wednesday. This will put us into northwest flow which will result in very pleasant temperatures. It will be dry on Monday, but by Tuesday, we'll start to see a baroclinic zone move into western MN. This forcing for precip will be battling dry air advecting in at the low levels from a Canadian high, but have kept chance PoPs from the NBM for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. Still a fair amount of uncertainty on specifics both days, but instability looks limited, so we're not anticipating any severe weather, with QPF being pretty light. Thursday through Saturday... During this period, we'll see a trough build to our west. It will take on a positive tilt, which this far out in the warm season tends to lead to a lower confidence forecast. There continues to be quite a bit of spread between models and from run-to-run in individual models this period. The result when blending guidance together in these sorts of situations is what we got from the NBM this evening, endless chance PoPS for Thursday through Saturday. As we draw closer to the end of next week and get some more clarity on the timing of the waves, we'll definitely have dry periods. There could also be some better chances for stronger storms and heavier rain, but again, that will come down to mesoscale details, that 5 to 7 days out, you can't really say much about. With our flow trending back to the southwest this period, we'll also see warmer temperatures return, with near to above normal temperatures expected. && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Sunday morning) Issued at 612 AM CDT Sat May 14 2022 VFR skies will prevail this period, with nothing more than varying amounts of mid/high clouds passing. A weak surface pressure trough moving into western MN now will move across MN this morning and western WI early this afternoon. Winds will turn westerly and get gusty in its wake, with speeds again settling down after sunset. Isolated shra/tsra will be possible at EAU this afternoon, with -shra possible late tonight in MKT.
