Winds will then increase to 5 to 10 knots Sunday morning, along with shifting to northeast to easterly by the end of the day. /16 && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 406 PM CDT Sat Mar 19 2022/ NEAR TERM UPDATE /Now Through Sunday/...A positively tilted upper trof extending from near the Great Lakes into the south central states takes on a meridional orientation while progressing to the East Coast during the period. An associated surface low well to the north previously brought a cold front through the forecast area overnight, and a dome of surface high pressure then builds into the region through Sunday. Very dry deep layer air continues to flow into the region meanwhile with a predominately light northerly surface flow, and no precipitation is expected through the period. Lows tonight range from around 40 well inland to the mid/upper 40s at the immediate coast, and highs on Sunday will be 70 to 75. A moderate risk of rip currents is in effect for the rest of today, then a low risk follows for tonight and Sunday. /29 SHORT TERM /Sunday night Through Wednesday afternoon/...Dry conditions expected through Monday evening, with isolated light rain showers returning late Monday night across SE MS ahead of the next major storm system. An upper shortwave will exit the Rocky Mountains Sunday night into Monday, and deepen significantly into a massive upper longwave trough over all of central North America, with the base extending as far south and southern Mexico. This trough will then nearly stall through the remainder of the short term. A 100 to 120 knot 300mb jet stream diving southward over the Inter-mountain West will carve out an upper level closed low pressure system within the longwave trough over southern New Mexico by noon Monday, and then lift northeast over the Midwest States through late Wednesday afternoon. A 60-80 knot 500mb jet max rounding the base of the southern plains upper closed low pressure system will strengthen to 90 to 110 knots Tuesday evening as it approaches the forecast area, enhancing an upper level diffluent pattern over the region. This jet will then lift northeastward late Tuesday night and Wednesday, placing the forecast area in the favorable right entrance region, promoting enhanced dynamic lifting in the mid to upper levels. At the surface, a large high pressure system across the region will shift eastward, bringing a southerly low level wind flow along the western periphery of the high resulting in a gradual increase in moisture and clouds. An area of low pressure is expected to develop over the Texas Panhandle by noon Tuesday, and lift northeast toward the lower Great Lakes. This will put the forecast area in the warm sector with a very tight pressure gradient developing. A low level jet will also accompany this system with 850mb winds between 45 and 60 knots moving across the forecast area on Tuesday, with the highest winds northwest of I-65. In addition, upper level impulses will also traverse the forecast area Tuesday, allowing for numerous showers and thunderstorms to develop by late Tuesday afternoon and continuing through Tuesday night We are monitoring this next system closely as the severe weather threat is trending upward with each model run, and has the potential to bring a line of strong to severe thunderstorms through the region Tuesday and possible into midweek. There are some timing differences that need to be resolved, but the bulk of the line is still expected to pass through the forecast area Tuesday and Tuesday night. The near storm environment is looking increasingly likely to support the development of strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes. MLCape values remain between 1200 and 1600 J/KG, concurrent with SFC-1KM SRH values between 400 to 600 M2/S2. Heavy rainfall is also expected with this system. In addition, a more elevated rip current risk is expected with this system, with high surf and possible coastal flooding. /22 EXTENDED TERM /Wednesday night Through Saturday/...Lingering isolated to scattered showers and few thunderstorms Wednesday evening will slowly taper off toward the southeast through Thursday. Once this system clears, a drier and cooler airmass moves into the area for the end of the week. /22 MARINE...Due to a strengthening northerly flow, small craft should exercise caution over much of the marine area tonight after which the flow gradually subsides on Sunday. WAY. THE TORNADO DAMAGED THE ROOF OF A HOUSE
WHERE NUMEROUS SHINGLES WERE REMOVED DOWN TO
THE TAR PAPER. IN ADDITION, A MANUFACTURED
HOME ADJACENT TO THE HOUSE WAS DESTROYED.
NUMEROUS TREES WERE SNAPPED AND SEVERAL
TREES WERE UPROOTED. THE TORNADO PROCEEDED
EAST ACROSS LOG LAKE ROAD AND DAMAGED THE
ROOF OF A MANUFACTURED HOME AS WELL AS
SNAPPED AND TWISTED ADDITIONAL TREES. A
COUPLE TREES WERE ALSO UPROOTED. THE TORNADO
CONTINUED ALONG AND CROSSED SUNDANCE WAY
