...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM CDT THIS MORNING 
FOR SCURRY COUNTY...

At 627 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy 
rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have 
fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in 
the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin 
shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
         drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Snyder, Inadale, Winston Field, Hermleigh, Dunn, Randalls Corner 
  and Ira.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 
dangers of flooding.

(Today through Tuesday afternoon)

A cold front is moving through this morning, switching winds out
of the north and bringing cooler temperatures to the region. Highs
today behind this front will be the coolest of the week in the
70s and low 80s, around 10 degrees below normal. Precipitation
chances will also be decreasing this afternoon, although there
will remain the possibility for scattered to numerous storms as a
shortwave moves through. Some brief, heavy rainfall will be
possible in these storms given PW values remain above normal, but
the flooding threat that existed over the weekend will be limited.

On Tuesday, we begin a slow warming and drying trend as a upper
ridge builds across western CONUS and we return to northwest flow
aloft. The greatest moisture will be to our south and east at this
point, although some storms are still likely to develop in the
vicinity of the Davis Mountains Tuesday afternoon. Ample cloud
cover will keep temperatures in the 70s and low 80s along and
south of I- 10 while the Permian Basin and SE New Mexico will warm
4-5 degrees over Monday to the mid 80s.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday night through Sunday)

An upper level ridge will be stationary over the southwestern
United States leaving West Texas and eastern New Mexico under a
weak northerly flow. Drier air from up north will filter in
causing a decrease in showers and thunderstorms over much of the
area. Easterly low level flow will create orographic lift west of
the Pecos River which is where the highest PoPs will be throughout
the week. Friday a trough will move into the Great Plains,
dampening the ridge and creating weak westerly flow. Instability
generated by the trough may bring the next chance for rainfall for
the Permian Basin over the weekend.

The drier air and clearing skies will cause temperatures to
increase back to near normal levels by mid week. Still, highs in
the low 90s is certainly reasonable for August.

Low CIGS will develop at all terminals by early morning. Most TAF
sites should remains MVFR, but KMAF may briefly fall to IFR
conditions. TSRA will develop by late morning, but timing/location
remain too uncertain to include at this time. Winds will become
northerly but should generally remain <12kts as a front moves
through this morning.

southwest Texas and western Texas.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Scattered to numerous showers and storms are expected this afternoon
and tonight mainly across the lower Trans Pecos and Big Bend. The
main concern with these storms will be heavy rain that could produce
flooding and flash flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible through Tuesday and may produce
heavy rainfall which could result in flash flooding.
