located 11 miles west of Gaffney, or near Chesnee, moving northeast
at 25 mph.

This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TAKE COVER NOW!

Battlefield, moving northeast at 25 mph.

.SYNOPSIS...
A stationary front and low pressures bringing much needed rain will
remain roughly west to east across our region through Tuesday then
lift north as a warm front Tuesday night and Wednesday.  Cool high
pressure over New England will give our area below normal high
temperatures on Tuesday.  A cold front is expected to cross our
region from the west on Thursday night bringing an end to the rain.
Dry high pressure prevails for the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 645 PM EDT Monday: There is just enough CAPE to sustain mainly
showers and a few low-topped tstms in two bands. The leading band
is crossing the Charlotte area and has little lightning in it. The
second band has no lightning, but still enough low-level shear
for a possible isolated weak tornado spin up. So will continue
the Tornado Watch along/ahead of that second line from Greenwood,
SC, to the southern NC Foothills until 9 PM EDT. There are some
rotations showers in Charlotte, but less rooted in the boundary
layer, thanks to some stabilization from earlier convection.

We remain in a Slight Risk of excessive rain, expecting another
inch or so of rain especially along the norther tier in Day 1 of
the forecast. Of course, that doesn't include what we expect to get
this evening, which could be 1-1.5", on top of what we've received
so far today. Mostly we can count this as very beneficial rain,
but certainly can't rule out some isolated event if we experience
training in an urban or flashy area.

As the shortwave pushes through the area and the surface low moves
east, the associated front will remain stalled across the area
tonight as a mid-level ridge builds off the Florida Peninsula.
Meanwhile, a hybrid damming event develops during the day on Tuesday
with surface high pressure nosing down the eastern slopes of the
Appalachians. High temperatures on Tuesday especially in the NC
Piedmont and even into portions of the Upstate will be a good 10
degrees or so cooler than normal, even cooler than that in the NW
NC Piedmont.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 225 pm Monday: In situ cold air damming is expected to persist
into the early part of the short term, as parent surface high oozes
off the New England coast. The result will be the continuation of a
stable air mass across the area Tue night through much of Wed, with
relatively weak isentropic lift expected to be the only impetus for
precip development across the area. However, some instability could
creep into the southern areas and across the mtns Wed afternoon as
the cool pool begins to erode around the edges (and from the
top-down). As such, chance PoPs for a combination of mostly light
showers within the damming region, and for diurnal convective
development around the periphery of the cool pool will be carried
throughout Wed into Wed night.

Mechanical lift will increase across the western part of the area
throughout Wed night, as flow above the surface accelerates in
response to cyclone lifting northeast across the central Conus. PoPs
therefore increase to likely along the southern Blue Ridge
escarpment and vicinity by daybreak Thu.

The forecast picture regarding the approach of the frontal zone
toward our area in association with the aforementioned cyclone late
in the short term is quite muddy at this point, as significant
timing differences linger regarding this feature, mainly due to
differences regarding the nature of the upper air pattern (namely
the intensity and location of the associated upper low).
Nevertheless, the consensus solution is to slow timing of the front
and associated numerous/widespread convective coverage to late day
Thu into Thu night, and timing of the highest PoPs has been shifted
to Thu evening. Improving shear values along with moderate levels of
instability should support some degree of severe storm threat during
that time frame, while a threat of locally excessive rainfall will
continue.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 240 pm Monday: Lingering precip associated with frontal
boundary should diminish Friday morning with only token chance PoPs
warranted...diminishing through the day. With drier air overtaking
the area in the wake of the front, much of the remainder of the
extended will see quiet and seasonably warm conditions. Very
warm/above normal conditions along with the potential for
isolated/widely scattered diurnal convection is expected to return
for Monday.

.AVIATION /23Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
At KCLT and Elsewhere: Variety of MVFR and VFR conditions out there
this afternoon as band of SHRA and embedded TSRA moves through the
area. Perhaps some brief improvement off and on this afternoon and
early evening, but expect widespread IFR to LIFR conditions
overnight. CAMs want to redevelop convection across the Upstate and
push it east around 00z, but confidence not high on this. Winds
generally SE to start the period, but should swing around the
compass and end up NW by tomorrow morning in the KCLT area,
remaining SW in the Upstate, and NE by midday tomorrow across the
mountains. Rain chances will diminish by tomorrow and restrictions
will gradually improve, but will be slow to do so, with guidance
likely improving too quickly.

Outlook: The stalled frontal boundary and persistent moisture will
keep precipitation and restrictions in the picture through the
middle of the week. Another cold front will arrive from the west
late week. Nocturnal fog/stratus will be possible as well,
especially where rain has recently fallen.

...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of Union County through
730 PM EDT...

At 659 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Lancaster, or near USC Lancaster, moving northeast at 40 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
Monroe, Unionville, Wesley Chapel, Wingate, Waxhaw, Marshville,
Mineral Springs, Fairview In Union County, Indian Trail and Jaars.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
