.SYNOPSIS...
Out ahead of an approaching cold front, showers and thunderstorms
will return by Wednesday evening. In the wake of this front, well
below normal temperatures are expected into the weekend.
A warming trend brings temperatures back above normal early next
week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 235 PM EDT Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms will continue
to spread over the fcst area from the SW thru the afternoon. We're
still expecting the activity to exit the CWA from west to east this
evening in the 6 to 9 PM timeframe. Despite it being fast-moving,
rain rates have been fairly high thus far, with 1+ inches of QPF
already fallen over portions of the Upstate and NE Georgia. The CAMs
continue to show some sort of meso-low tracking along the wedge front
that develops from the in-situ CAD. We're currently seeing some QLCS
activity trying to form over the Upstate with some rotation evident
along the more discrete line. Thus, the current Day 1 Slight Risk
over our southern zones still makes sense. Damaging wind gusts remain
the main threat, but isolated large hail and brief tornadoes cannot
be ruled out, thanks to the good low-lvl shear. The other concern will
be locally heavy rainfall that may cause minor flooding issues. The
heaviest rain is still expected along the I-85 corridor and south,
where 1-2" and locally higher amounts are likely. The short duration
of the rain has precluded a need for any Flood Watch. Otherwise,
high temps will range from slightly below normal in the west, where
the rain moves in first, to slightly above normal along and east of
I-77. Guidance overall continues to be trend more abrupt with ending
precip this evening, with just a few lingering showers by midnight.
Continued mixing and SWLY winds should limit fog potential. Lows will
be about 10-15 degrees above normal.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 215 PM Tuesday: Canadian cold front will sweep across the
forecast area throughout Wed night, encountering weakening
instability and more-than-adequate shear to support convective
organization. Considering the less-than-ideal timing of fropa in
relation to the diurnal heating cycle, the extent of any severe
storm threat will hinge largely upon the magnitude of any residual
surface-based CAPE. This could be impacted by how much convection
develops along a warm frontal feature from central GA into the
Carolina coastal plain tomorrow afternoon/evening, and potential
attendant interruption of moisture transport into our forecast area.
It's therefore not surprising that the GFS, which is the operational
model that develops the highest degree of convective response to our
south, offers up the most stable scenario for our area in comparison
with other guidance. Meanwhile, the NAM maintains sbCAPE of
1000-1500 J/kg through much of Wed night, which would be concerning.
All things considered, it seems that sbCAPE in the upper triple
digits is probably more than attainable. The anticipated combo of
shear and instability will likely yield organized...including
possible supercell structures with any cells tomorrow night. Having
said that, shear doesn't look particularly excessive, so severe
weather would most likely take the form of locally damaging wind
gusts, brief/isolated tornadoes, and perhaps even marginally severe
hail.

Convection will shift east of the forecast area Thu morning, with
cold/dry advection overspreading the region through the day, with
max temps Thu expected to average a good 10 degrees below
Wednesday's readings. With a series of speed maxima carving out a
deepening upper low that will lobby into the Great Lakes early in
the period, even cooler/drier air will a secondary front to surge
across the area by Thu evening. Developing NW flow and an area of
cold advection moisture extending from the TN Valley into the
southern Appalachians will yield chances for shower development from
late Thu night through Friday. Falling freezing levels will result
in some potential for accumulating snow in the higher elevations
along the TN border. Max temps Friday will be around 10 degrees
below normal.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 235 PM Tuesday: Broad and deep/albeit relatively progressive
upper trough will be in place atop the East at the start of the
period. Other than some lingering northwest flow mountain rain/snow
showers very early in the extended, much of the medium range should
see dry and warming conditions. Temps Fri night through Sat night
will be a solid 10-15 degrees below normal, leading to some
frost/freeze concerns for areas where the growing season is well
underway (i.e., all areas east of the mountains), with Sat night
being of particular concern. However, temps will moderate quickly
early next week as the trough progresses off the East Coast, with
max temps Mon and Tue expected to return to 5-10 degrees above
climo. Small rain chances return by the end of Tuesday, as broad
warm advection regime sets up in the warm sector of a Great Plains
cyclone.

.AVIATION /19Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
At KCLT and elsewhere: Showers and thunderstorms will continue to
spread over the fcst area from the SW this afternoon. Expect lower
clouds to reach KCLT just after 18z with some embedded TSRA in a
fairly solid rain shield denoted with TEMPO groups for all sites
except KHKY and KAVL. KCLT will likely have the highest chances
for some gusty winds with the convection, with the other taf sites
still looking to be more stable. Winds will favor a SLY direction,
but toggle to more NLY across the Upstate as the rain moves in.
Winds aren't expect to go NWLY at KAVL until just after midnight.
Rain tapers off quickly later this afternoon and thru the evening
from west to east, but lingering low-lvl moisture could keep IFR
stratus around thru the night and into the overnight with all sites
expected to sct out and return to VFR by early tomorrow morning.

Outlook: Partial clearing takes place Wednesday morning with a
return to VFR, before another cold front brings another round of
precipitation and restrictions to the area for Wed night. Clearing
conditions and gusty WLY to SWLY winds are expected behind the front
for Thursday and Friday.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for northeast Georgia, piedmont
North Carolina, western North Carolina, and upstate South Carolina.

.DAY ONE...This afternoon and tonight.

Widespread rain with embedded thunderstorms is expected across the
area this afternoon and evening. Locally heavy rainfall and isolated
flooding may occur. A few strong to severe storms are possible, with
damaging winds and an isolated tornado possible. The greatest threat
of flooding and severe storms is along and south of the Interstate 85
corridor.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday.

Another round of thunderstorms is expected late Wednesday afternoon
and evening. Some of these storms will be severe, with damaging winds
and isolated tornadoes possible. The greatest threat will be along
and west of the Interstate 26 corridor.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotter activation may be needed. Please relay any information about
observed severe weather to the NWS while following all local, state,
and CDC guidelines.
