.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure and unseasonably warm temperatures will prevail
until a strong cold front moves through Sunday night. Much
cooler high pressure will build into the area and persist
through the middle of next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
Early this morning: Most of the forecast area is cloud free and
the radar is clear at the current time. Satellite imagery shows
areas of low stratus advecting north and northeastward from the
Gulf Coast, and this will fill in across much of the forecast
area through sunrise. Temperatures will remain mild, mostly in
the mid to upper 60s. Winds will remain elevated, solidly in the
10-15 mph range with occasional gusts into the 20-25 mph range
possible.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Sunday: A complicated set-up is expected as a lingering warm,
moist air mass and southwesterly flow will begin the day. A mid-
level trough will edge closer to the area pushing a cold front
through the region overnight. Influence from a strong ridge over
the Atlantic will provide some mid-level dry air and
subsidence, complicating the forecast somewhat. Model consensus
indicates sfc cyclogenesis which could develop a closed low over
the SC/GA Midlands, tracking to the northeast. Trended slower
with the timing of the front with this update with "likely" pops
now being introduced into the western fringes of the CWA around
Sunday afternoon. The bulk of the rainfall should push offshore
by Monday morning. WPC has outlooked the inland portions of the
CWA in a Marginal Risk for Excessive Rainfall. Rainfall amounts
are upwards of 1.5 inches across inland areas with around 0.5"
to 0.75" along the coastal locations. If this solution pans out,
there could be flooding issues or ponding on roads, however
where the surface low sets up could drastically influence the
rainfall totals. In regards to the severe threat, SPC has
outlooked the entire area in a Marginal Risk. Instability is
minimal with MLCAPE no greater than 500 J/kg and a fairly strong
double capping inversion set-up in the morning. As the surface
cap erodes by late morning, model soundings show a decent mid-
level inversion which may stifle the development of convection.
There is noticeable strong 0-6 km shear with H5 winds around 100
kt, which could pan out to negate the chances for thunderstorm
development as weak/moderate updrafts would become sheared
before organization occurs. Although the strength of those
thunderstorms is still uncertain, a strong to severe
thunderstorm cannot be ruled out if some stronger updrafts are
able to materialize.
Lake Winds: Gusty surface winds are expected over Lake Moultrie
Sunday into Monday. A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for
occasional gusts up to 25 kt, beginning Sunday afternoon. High
pressure building into the region in the wake of the front will
enhance gusty winds overnight Sunday with potential for gusts up
to 30 kt through the morning.
Monday and Tuesday: High pressure will build into the region in
the wake of the cold front. Dry air will replace the recent
moist airmass and rain-free conditions are expected. Highs will
be a whopping 15 degrees cooler than Sunday, only reaching the
mid to upper 50s. Lows will dip into the 30s Monday night over
most of the forecast area and low 40s along the beaches.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
High pressure will gradually move offshore as a second cold
front is expected to pass over the region mid week. Showers will
be possible starting late Wednesday night and could persist
through early weekend. High pressure will then return by the end
of the week and persist through the weekend. Mid-week will
start with above normal temperatures, cooling by the end of the
week to slightly below climatological average.

.AVIATION /06Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
We start the 06z TAF period with VFR conditions at KCHS, KJZI,
and KSAV. Satellite imagery shows MVFR stratus tracking into the
region from the south and southwest, and will reach the
terminals over the next several hours. KSAV looks to have the
best chance to see MVFR ceilings, roughly in the 08-13z time
period. KCHS and KJZI might be far enough east to miss the
ceilings, but it will be close. Southwest winds will be quite
gusty beginning by mid morning and continuing into the evening.
Frequent gusts into the 25-30 knot range are expected at all
three TAF sites. Showers (and possible thunderstorms) will stay
inland of the TAF sites through most of the day, but rain
chances will increase by mid to late afternoon. The bulk of the
shower activity will come this evening, but the exact timing of
the arrival is still in question. These showers, and possible
thunderstorms, could bring at least temporary ceiling and
visibility restrictions.
Extended Aviation Outlook: Flight restrictions are possible
Sunday into Monday during any lingering fog and showers and
thunderstorms. Gusty winds across the terminals are possible
Sunday into Monday as a front pushes through the area, with
potential for strong vertical wind shear. VFR will then return
late Monday and prevail through mid-week.

Tonight: Solid Small Craft Advisory winds are impacting the
Charleston Harbor and the Charleston County waters. Winds will
continue to increase across all waters through the rest of the
night and advisory conditions will expand to include all local
waters.
Sunday through Thursday: Southwest winds will prevail on Sunday
before a cold front sweeps through the area and winds shift out
of the north. Small Craft Advisories will remain in effect for
all waters including the Charleston Harbor through Monday due to
elevated winds and seas. The biggest concern is the development
of gale force winds. If gale conditions do occur, it'll likely
be overnight Sunday into early Monday. Therefore, Gale
Watches/Warnings could eventually be needed. By late Monday,
winds and seas will gradually decrease and additional headlines
should not be needed through mid-week.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
For Sunday morning, the astronomical high tide is a bit higher
at 6.64 ft MLLW and the overall pattern will not change from
what it is Saturday morning. Therefore, we should see similar
tidal departures which means another Coastal Flood Advisory will
almost certainly be needed. Tides were increased to 7.4 ft MLLW
in Charleston Harbor.
