...Lake effect snow showers giving way to light snow...

High Impact Weather Potential...Low.

Lingering over lake instability has kept some light snow showers
going off of Lake Michigan per APX 88D and surface observations.
Steady warm air advection tonight should put an end to any
nuisance lake induced snow showers this evening. However,
isentropically driven upglide well in advance of our major storm
system (see below) is expected to lead to some light snow
development across far northwest lower and across eastern upper
later tonight. Accumulations of an inch or two are possible. It
will be mainly cloudy as clouds thicken and lower through the
night. Winds will be light out of the south. Temperatures tonight
should be nearly steady...perhaps dropping by a few degrees this
evening followed by a few degree rise overnight. Lows generally in
the mid teens to around 20.

...End of Week Major Storm System...

High Impact Weather Potential: High for the winter storm

Synopsis/Forecast: An anomalously deep 500mb low will dive through
the Dakotas midweek before continuing to dig through the mid-
Mississippi valley and into the Ohio Valley before hooking back up
into southwest Quebec. This will develop a strong surface low
in/near Oklahoma that quickly lifts northeast along a tight
baroclinic zone into the Great Lakes...bringing blizzard conditions
heading into the Holiday Weekend.

Not much change for Thursday, with snow chances moving in through
the morning north of the bridge where a bit better
moisture/convergence is. We'll struggle to saturate south of the
bridge initially. Better moisture and stronger dynamic forcing moves
in Thursday evening and overnight, rapidly deepening the surface
low, with some guidance trying to bomb it out somewhere over
Michigan or southeast Ontario. Heavy/wet snow is expected Thursday
and Thursday night into early Friday...with a transition to fluffier
dry snow Friday afternoon. This timeframe (Friday afternoon/evening)
coincides with some of the strongest winds expected as the pressure
gradient remains tight across the region. Gusts of 40 to 50mph
remain possible, higher along the lake shores.

Noting the difference among guidance between the GFS/NAM being a bit
further west and the Euro/Canadian a bit further east. This does add
a bit of uncertainty to exact amounts of total snowfall which will
impact the amount of drifting and blowing. Regardless, sustained
winds will likely be in the 20's. This will result in significant
travel hazards with blowing snow causing white-out conditions as
visibilities drop to between 0.25 to 0.50 miles. Falling
temperatures will only enhance issues if anyone finds themselves
stranded on roads or without power.

Snow looks to continue through Friday night and Saturday with strong
northwest winds ongoing and plenty of cold air in place...We will
have a very deep isothermal DGZ Friday night into Saturday which
should help snow keep going strong even as the best dynamic lift
passes on by to our north. Going forward in time there could be a
slight decrease (possibly) in coverage and intensity in snowfall
rates from SW to NE late Saturday evening and overnight as some
moisture starts to get stripped out. But we'll still have an
environment more than supportive enough for ongoing lake effect into
Sunday.

Impacts: No matter the exact track of the surface low, still believe
winds and any falling snow will make for dangerous to near
impossible travel at times Friday into Saturday.

High Impact Weather Potential: Moderate to high, will have to see
how beefy lake effect for Christmas Day gets.

Bitter cold air pours into the region with wind chills in the single
digits above and below zero through the weekend. Sunday will
continue the lake effect threat, which could definitely add to snow
totals in the traditional NW-flow areas. No real break in sight from
the snow chances as another clipper moves by the Great Lakes early
next week before a bit of a break heading into the middle of the
week with high pressure moving in.

Generally MVFR cigs will attempt to lift to low end VFR this
evening. Light snow chances increase at PLN and CIU tonight into
Thursday morning. Overall deteriorating conditions expected
Thursday with snow overspreading the region toward the end of the
taf period along with increasing south southeast winds. Blizzard
conditions likely Friday into Saturday making for difficult to
impossible air travel.
