At 533 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Old Trap, or 8 miles east of Weeksville, moving
northwest at 50 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without 
         shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage 
         to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree damage is 
         likely.

This dangerous storm will be near...
  Shiloh around 540 PM EDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Glen
Cove, Goose Creek, Riddle and Texas.

.SYNOPSIS...
Strong high pressure lingers over New England tonight with Hurricane
Ian moving inland after landfall along the SC coast this
afternoon. Ian's circulation weakens over North Carolina
Saturday. Widespread rain continues to spread north late this
afternoon and into the evening. Low pressure will linger off
the Mid-Atlantic coast later this weekend into early next week
as high pressure persists over New England.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY MORNING/...
As of 405 PM EDT Friday...

Hurricane Ian is coming ashore on the central SC coast this
afternoon with widespread rainfall extending well to the north and
east across much of the Carolinas and Virginia. A coastal/pseudo
warm front extends from the center of the circulation north and east
along portions of coastal NC and near the Albemarle Sound. ~1028mb
high pressure remains anchored over New England which is resulting
in a tight pressure gradient across the region. Winds are quite
variable between well inland and coastal areas. Winds along and west
of I-95 have been gusting 20-25mph while areas to the east of 95 are
25-30mph. Areas along the western shore of the Ches Bay (where wind
advisories are in effect) have seen gusts 30-45mph so far. Hampton
Roads and points south into coastal Currituck County NC have been
upgraded to a High Wind Warning with gusts in this region generally
40-55mph. Wind Advisories also extend into the VA Eastern Shore.

Widespread moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall continues to
spread northward from NC this afternoon. Flood Watch remains in
effect for the counties near and south of the VA/NC border and
extends north and east across the US 460 corridor east of I-95 and
into the Peninsula and Hampton Roads. The VA Eastern Shore has been
added to the Flood Watch as the latest guidance spreads the heaviest
rainfall into this region this evening as well. WPC has the
southeastern part of the area in a Moderate Risk for excessive
rainfall with a Slight and Marginal Risk covering the remainder of
the area. In collaboration with WPC, have forecast QPF of 1-3" NW,
to 3-5" SE through 12z Saturday. However, localized amounts of 4-6"
are possible in near the Bay and NE NC. Some flash flooding can be
expected late this afternoon into the overnight as high rain rates
overcome dry antecedent conditions.

As the extratropical transition ramps up this evening into tonight,
a dry slot will develop and move N into the area. This will help end
rain but may also aid in the possibility for a few isolated
tornadoes given dry air entrainment allowing for semi-discrete
clusters of storms. Tornado Watch 548 remains in effect for
southeastern portions of the area until 10pm with extensions or
additional tornado watches likely into the overnight. Expect the
majority of the rainfall to move offshore by 12z/8 AM Saturday as
the dry slot moves in. Low temps tonight range from the low 50s NW
to the low 70s SE.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 405 PM EDT Friday...

The remnants of Ian continue to weaken Sat across western NC and
into the SW VA mountains. Expect the dry slot to continue to
push N with most areas remaining dry for much of the day Sat
(highest PoPs across the N and NW but with QPF generally less
than 0.1"). 12z guidance has trended toward keeping the deep
tropical moisture feed off the coast. WPC still has a marginal
risk of excessive rainfall generally north of I-64 with a
sliver of slight risk for the MD Eastern Shore. Given the drying
aloft, think there will be a few breaks in the clouds over much
of area with the best chance over E VA/NE NC. Have therefore
stayed on the warmer side of guidance with high temps in the
upper 70s to lower 80s E of I-95 and 60s-70s W (where CAD still
resides). A coastal low develops Sun while the remnants of Ian
slowly move ESE, eventually phasing with the coastal low. This
will result in cloud cover returning as well as increasing PoPs
and rain likely, though with much lower QPF than what we are
seeing today. Highs Sun in the upper 50s NW to mid 70s SE. There
remains uncertainty regarding how much rain falls Sun, with the
EURO more aggressive than the GFS. Nevertheless, there is some
potential for moderate rain which may cause ponding of water on
roads and low-lying areas given wet antecedent conditions from
the rain today/tonight. Lows Sun night in the upper 40s NW to
around 60F SE.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 340 PM EDT Friday...

A coastal low lingers off the coast Tuesday before lifting off to
the NE Wednesday. Meanwhile, high pressure builds into the NE. The
result will be rain chances lingering Monday night into Tuesday
before tapering off from W to E Tuesday afternoon. Breezy NE winds
will also linger due to the tightening pressure gradient between the
high to the N and the coastal low to the S with 20-35 mph gusts
Tuesday. High pressure builds in from the W Wednesday into Friday
with drier weather expected. A dry cold front pushes through Thurs
night/Fri. Highs in the 60s Tues, lower 70s Wed, 70s Thurs, and
lower 60s NW to lower 70s SE Fri. Lows in the lower to mid 40s W to
mid 50s SE Mon night, 40s Tues night, mid 40s W to mid 50s E Wed
night, and upper 40s NW to mid 50s SE Thurs night.

.AVIATION /20Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 145 PM EDT Friday...

High pressure remains centered over NE. Meanwhile, Hurricane
Ian is close to making landfall near the central SC coast. Some
areas of VFR CIGS/VSBY are noted across the NW third of the
area with MVFR spreading north to include RIC and SBY over the
last hour or so. To the south, IFR is prevalent for PHF, ORF,
and ECG and surrounding areas. Expect IFR to spread northward to
RIC over the next few hours and up to SBY by late afternoon or
early evening. Areas of moderate to heavy rainfall will spread
northward through the remainder of the afternoon and into the
overnight. Winds have increase to 15-20 kt with gusts 25-35 kt
inland and 20-30 kt with gusts to 35-40+ kt along the coast.
There is a chance for LLWS this afternoon, but not confident
enough that it will affect the terminals for inclusion in the
TAFs.

Rain tapers off from S to N tonight into Sat as the dry slot
moves in with CIGs improving and winds diminishing. Low
pressure organizes off the coast later Sun into Mon with more
rain, flight restrictions, and breezy conditions possible.

.MARINE...
As of 340 PM EDT Friday...

Hurricane Ian is making landfall just south of the NC/SC border this
afternoon. The gradient between Ian and high pressure to our north
is resulting in NE winds of 25-40 kt with gusts of 35-50 kt near the
surface (highest in the lower bay/SE VA coastal waters). A few 60+
knot gusts have been observed at Chesapeake Light Tower (10-20nm E
of VA Beach at 135 feet elevation). A warm front over ern NC is
gradually pushing north toward the waters. Seas are 10 to 15 feet,
with waves likely in the 4 to 10 foot range. The only notable change
is that the Storm Warning was expanded to include the NE NC coastal
waters (have seen a few 50 kt gusts here and these will continue for
the next few hours). Storm Warnings remain in effect for the lower
Chesapeake Bay, mouth of the bay, and Atlantic Ocean zones from the
Parramore Island, VA southward for gusts to 50 kt through late
evening). Gale Warnings are in effect for all other marine zones.

As the warm front moves north overnight, winds shift to the SE and
diminish to 15-20 kt by 12z Sat and further drop off through Sat
aftn as Ian weakens and moves into the mountains of VA/NC. Seas of
10-15 ft on the ocean and waves in the bay of 4-10 ft (highest at
the mouth) will continue through the first part of tonight. Waves in
the tidal rivers will be 2-4 ft except for 5-7 ft at the mouth of
the lower James River. SCAs will be needed once gale force winds end
later tonight. Winds Saturday will likely fall below SCA levels in
the bay and rivers, but seas will remain high in the ocean (5-7ft).

Secondary cyclogenesis will take place off the Mid-Atlantic coast by
Sunday and especially Sunday night-Monday. Winds will once again
become NE and the low strengthens off our coast. Winds will increase
from north to south and gale force gusts are likely across the nrn
coastal waters by Sunday evening, and across all VA/MD waters
(including the Ches Bay) by Sunday night-Mon AM. The period of gale
gusts will last through at least Monday evening and potentially into
Mon night-Tue. Seas will build to 9-13 ft again during this time.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 340 PM EDT Friday...

Strong NE winds continue this aftn (and peak late in the
aftn/evening). Tidal anomalies have risen sharply in the last couple
of hours and are currently +2.0 to 2.75 ft in the lower Ches Bay
Farther N, anomalies are significantly lower, averaging +1.0 to
+1.75 ft (and are still no higher than +0.5 to 1.0 ft along the
Maryland zones). However, anomalies on the bayside of the MD Ern
Shore will slowly increase tonight through the weekend.

Tidal anomalies will continue to increase through late evening,
potentially peaking around +3.5 ft in the Lower Ches Bay (but likely
just before the nighttime high tide cycle). Have issued a
Coastal Flood Advisory for Bertie/Chowan in NC due to the
potential for rising water levels on the west side of the
Albemarle Sound with the flow becoming E then SE (even though
winds will weaken). Otherwise, will continue with the
advisories and warnings as is. Despite tonight being the lower
astronomical tide, minor to moderate tidal flooding is expected
from Lewisetta/Accomack County to VA Beach (locally major at
Jamestown?) during tonight's high tide. Water levels will likely
crest near moderate flood thresholds front Lewisetta to
Windmill Pt tonight, but will keep the advisories here for now
(and will keep York as the northernmost county in the warning on
the bay side). With the decrease in winds Sat-Sun AM, water
levels are expected to decrease (except from Cambridge-
Crisfield...where nuisance flooding is possible this weekend).
Tidal anomalies will increase again for Sun night/Mon when
another round of minor to moderate coastal flooding is expected.
High Surf Advisories are in effect as well as a high risk for
rip currents.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for southeast Maryland.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.

Hurricane Ian made a second landfall along the South Carolina coast
this afternoon, and is expected to move northwest and weaken over
the Carolinas Saturday. Meanwhile, strong high pressure will remain
anchored across New England into the weekend. The combination of the
high to the north and the tropical low to the south will funnel
moisture into the region with periods of heavy rain possible today
into tonight.

Hazardous weather is not expected at this time.

Another area of low pressure is expected to form along coast Sunday
into Monday after a lull Saturday into Saturday night.

This will bring periods of breezy to windy conditions to the outlook
