* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Travel will be very 
  difficult to impossible.

* WHERE...Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast.

* WHEN...Until 9 AM Friday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds gusting as high as 50 mph will cause
  whiteout conditions in blowing snow beginning this afternoon 
  and continuing into Friday morning. Significant drifting of the 
  snow is likely. Cold wind chills as low as 55 below zero will 
  cause frostbite in as little as 10 minutes to exposed skin.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel extremely difficult. The latest road
conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

.SYNOPSIS...
Light to moderate snow has moved into the Interior this afternoon
and is expected to result in 1 to 2 inches of snow through this
evening. Otherwise, wind chill issues along the Arctic and West
Coasts and 5 to 8 inches of snow along the southern portions of
the Eastern Alaska Range remain as the current hazards. Strong
west winds developing tonight across the Interior tonight will
create blowing snow issues once again along highway summits
through tomorrow evening. A strong cooling trend is expected for
the Interior going into Friday.

.DISCUSSION...
The deep Arctic trough continues to persist over the West Coast,
but will begin to lift to the northeast to the central Brooks
Range by tomorrow morning, and then eventually into the northern
portion of the AlCan border by Thursday night. Ridging will build
in from the south on Friday, but the Arctic longwave trough will
dig across the Chukchi Sea, resulting in zonal flow aloft. This
general pattern will persist into early next week.

The result of this pattern will be light snow exiting the state
tonight, with general surface high pressure centered over the
North Slope. Easterly offshore flow will set up south of the
Brooks Range by Friday morning. After tonight, snow chances will
remain low until Saturday, as solutions indicate a weather front
reaching north of the Alaska Range. The position and timing of
this feature still remains suspect, so will have to monitor
changes to the outlook with this system. Regardless, this feature
is not expected to bring overly impactful snow going to Sunday at
this point.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Light to moderate snow has moved into portions of the Interior
from Tanana east to Fairbanks to Eagle. General snow amounts
between 1 to 2 inches are expected through this evening across
this region. The south facing slopes of the Alaska Range continue
to receive snow as well, but larger amounts of 2 to 4 inches are
expected through this evening. Strong westerly flow will develop
tonight, with another round of blowing snow issues for highway
summits across the Interior. Wind gusts expected to exceed 50 mph,
especially for Twelve Mile and Eagle Summits along the Steese
Highway leading to the expectation that blizzard conditions will
occur for those areas. These conditions will last through tomorrow
evening before winds weaken. Temperatures are currently in the
single digits above and below zero across the Interior, with
temperatures expected to plummet into the teens to 20s below
tonight and in the 20s to 30s below by tomorrow night.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Temperatures still remaining primarily in the 40s to 50s below
across the North Slope, with wind chills ranging from 60 to 70
below zero along the Beaufort Sea Coast. Winds 15 to 25 mph are
expected to dissipate this afternoon, leading to improvements in
the wind chill factor. Additionally, temperatures are expected to
slightly warm into the teens and 20s below zero going through
tomorrow. A leeside low developing across the eastern North Slope
will create westerly winds 20 to 30 mph across the Beaufort Sea
Coast tomorrow, resulting in another round of wind chill and
blowing snow issues going into Friday. Temperatures will again
trend into the 30s to 40s below zero going into the weekend across
the Arctic Coast.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Blowing snow issues have subsided across the West Coast, with
isolated wind chill issues along the Chukchi Sea Coast this
afternoon. Generally quiet conditions across the area going into
the weekend, with northerly flow weakening over this time period.
Temperatures are expected to cool into the 20s to 30s below zero
by tonight and remain generally in this range through tomorrow
night before a slight warming trend going into the weekend.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended Forecast Days 4 to 7...
Model guidance is in much better agreement in the extended period
than the last couple of days. Models indicate that in the upper
levels that zonal flow will set up over the weekend and persist
through the middle of next week. This pattern would favor near
normal temperatures across the state, with occasional shots for
snow across portions of the Interior.
