Mesoscale Discussion 0739
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0721 PM CDT Tue May 25 2021

Areas affected...west Texas through a portion of the Oklahoma
Panhandle

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 204...

Valid 260021Z - 260145Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 204
continues.

SUMMARY...Isolated damaging wind and large hail remain possible
through mid evening across portions of west Texas. The greatest
coverage of severe storms will probably persist with a cluster near
Sweetwater. Additional storms might develop across a portion of the
Texas and Oklahoma panhandles.

DISCUSSION...Early this evening the greatest coverage of storms
persist over the southern portions of west TX near Sweetwater and
this activity will pose a threat for damaging wind and large hail as
it continues slowly east during the next couple of hours. Farther
north orphaned anvils are evident west of the Lubbock area where
attempts at initiation occurred along the dryline. However, with
loss of diabatic heating and only weak forcing along the retreating
dryline, confidence in storm development is low for this area. An
isolated, weakening supercell persists across the Panhandle just
west of Amarillo. Additional storms are possible along a
southwest-northeast oriented front from the northern part of the
Texas Panhandle into the eastern Oklahoma Panhandle during the next
couple of hours.
