.AVIATION...
For the 25/12z TAFs, convection is moving northeast through
Southeast Oklahoma and Southwest Arkansas and should remain north
of the TAF sites for the next few hours. However, redevelopment is
expected by late morning or early afternoon across much of
Southeast Oklahoma and East Texas. The next round of showers and
thunderstorms will move eastward and will likely affect most TAF
sites with the exception of KMLU. The precip should once again
become confined to Southeast Oklahoma and Southwest Arkansas by
26/06z, but a complex of thunderstorms may move into the area
from the north late in the period.

Flight conditions will vary considerably. MVFR/IFR ceilings are
ongoing across portions of Western Louisiana and much of East
Texas, but the clouds should lift back into the VFR range by
25/15z. However, conditions will likely deteriorate again as
thunderstorms impact the terminals. VFR conditions are expected
after the precip ends, but light winds and a very moist low-level
airmass should result in low clouds and MVFR/IFR ceilings at most
terminals after 26/06z.

SHORT TERM.../Today through Wednesday/

The next in a long series of shortwave troughs, which is currently
over Western North Texas, will generally move easterly today and
over locations north of Interstate 30 by early this evening.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are already ongoing across
Northern and Northeast Texas. An outflow boundary will also move
eastward today from an ongoing thunderstorm complex in Western
North Texas. The shortwave trough will provide enhanced vertical
ascent for convective development, while the outflow boundary
serves as a focus, especially along and north of the Interstate
30 corridor. Convective coverage should rapidly expand by late
this morning and early this afternoon across much of the area,
with high PoPs across most of the region west of a line roughly
from Toledo Bend Dam to Camden AR. Abundant deep layer moisture
remains in place, and the showers and storms will likely be
efficient rain producers. Storms in North Texas have already been
showing a tendency for training, and that will like remain an
issue through the day. Given the saturated soils in place, this
could lead to some isolated flash flooding concerns, especially in
Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas, and Northeast Texas where
lift will be maximized from the shortwave trough and the outflow
boundary.

This round of convection should gradually diminish somewhat after
sunset with the loss of diurnal instability, but scattered
showers and thunderstorms will likely persist across the northern
half of the area through the overnight and early morning hours of
Wednesday. It's worth noting that the GFS and EMCWF are much more
aggressive with rain chances tonight through Wednesday compared to
the NAM, which is very dry. The GFS is the most bullish, but even
the ECMWF suggests thunderstorms will move into the area from
north to south as another convective complex dives southeast
across Oklahoma and into Texas. PoPs should generally remain
confined to areas north of Interstate 20 between midnight tonight
and noon Wednesday, before convection becomes more scattered in
nature across most of the area during peak afternoon heating
tomorrow. All three models show another weak shortwave moving
across Oklahoma during this time frame. The last several days have
demonstrated that it doesn't take a great deal for convection to
develop in this very moist and unstable airmass. Therefore, this
forecast favors more of a blend of the GFS and EMCWF for rain
chances on Wednesday versus the dry forecast of the NAM.

LONG TERM.../Wednesday Night through Monday Night/

Northwest flow arrives by the middle of the week, ushered in on the
backside of an upper-level low. This flow pattern, as it typically
does, will carry embedded shortwaves and convective systems across
the Red River Basin on the way to the Ark-La-Tex through the rest of
the week into Memorial Day Weekend. Plans made this holiday weekend
should take the daily chance of showers and thunderstorms into
account.

Until then, some subsidence aloft on the backside of the
upper-level low will keep storms mostly at bay on Thursday.
Simultaneously, a frontal boundary will cross the Great Plains by
Friday, becoming stationary and serving as an instigating mechanism
for a round of convective systems to propagate into our area with
showers and thunderstorms by Friday afternoon. This frontal boundary
will continue south overnight, potentially across the I-20 corridor,
with a more vigorous shortwave aloft set to arrive by Saturday
afternoon that delivers another chance of showers and thunderstorms
with it. This frontal boundary will continue to slowly waver about
the area on Sunday and linger across the Ark-La-Tex through Memorial
Day, however, backside subsidence will once again keep conditions
slightly drier as the holiday weekend ends.

Impacts to temperatures by this pesky frontal boundary will be
negligible as it arrives on Saturday with a moist, precipitation-
moderated air mass across our northern zones. Southerly surface flow
will persist through the rest of this week until then, maintaining
near average to just above average temperatures with highs in the
upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s. With moist soils, dew points in
the upper 60s and lower-70s are likely, keeping conditions muggy for
the foreseeable future. /16/
