.SYNOPSIS...A weather system moves through the area today into
Friday with lowland rain and heavy mountain snow. Additional
systems will move through the area for the weekend into next week
with lowland rain and mountain snow at times.

.SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...Upper level ridge has
shifted inland this morning in advance of weather system that will
push through the area today into Friday. Precipitation shield is
pushing into view of KLGX radar early this morning with
rain reaching the coast over the next few hours. Rain will push
inland into the lowlands through the morning hours and continue at
times into Friday as cold front pushes through later this evening
into tonight. One area to watch remains across the Kitsap
Peninsula this morning as cold air could remain trapped enough to
allow for a bit of snow or rain/snow mix at the onset/first few
hours of precipitation. Snow levels will also start out at the
surface across northwestern Whatcom county. Not expecting much in
the way of accumulation - may a few tenths at best - but will
continue to be a situation to monitor before snow levels rise and
colder air is scoured out. Rainfall amounts in the lowlands will
generally be around a half inch or less. Breezy winds expected
along the northern inland waters and San Juan islands but below
wind advisory criteria.
The main impact will be heavy mountain snow across the Cascades
with snow levels rising to 1500-2500 feet and 10-18 inches for the
passes. Difficult travel expected at times, especially during
periods of heaviest snow this evening into tonight. A winter
weather advisory remains in effect for today into Friday.
Showers will linger into Saturday, heaviest across the Cascades,
although may see a bit of a convergence zone develop at some point
later Friday and potentially again on Saturday. Temperatures will
remain below normal with highs in the low to mid 40s and lows in
the upper 30s.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...The main feature for
Sunday into early next week is an atmospheric river system. Models
and their ensembles in decent agreement with moisture plume
directed toward Vancouver Island and western BC on Sunday, before
slowly shifting south and weakening on Monday into early Tuesday.
This will bring decent widespread rainfall to Western Washington
with rising snow levels (though still on the order of 4000-5000
feet by Monday so not super warm by AR standards). Given fast
moving nature of AR plume, this should help to mitigate widespread
hydro concerns, though will continue to monitor ensemble trends as
axis has been shifting quite a bit over the past several days.
Upper level troughing takes hold of the area for Tuesday into
Wednesday as ridging rebuilds over the Eastern Pacific. This
should signal slightly cooler temperatures and additional chances
for precipitation though details are shaky at this time.

.AVIATION...Westerly flow aloft as a system approaches the area. VFR
early this morning with high clouds. Rain with the next front will
move onshore from 12-14z and slide east through the morning. Cigs
will be VFR at the onset of the rain with MVFR cigs for most by 21-
22z. IFR possible at times this afternoon into tonight. Rain at
times late this morning through the day. Winds will be light
southeasterly for most this morning and transition to southerly and
increase this afternoon. A few wind gusts of 20 knots possible late
today into tonight.
KSEA...VFR cigs through this morning. Rain will increase at the site
from 17-18z, with rain into the afternoon. MVFR cigs expected by
early afternoon with MVFR through tonight. Winds will be
southeasterly 4 to 8 knots this morning, southerly winds increasing
to 10 to 14 knots this afternoon, gusts to 20 knots.

.MARINE...Winds will increase through this morning as the next
front moves through the area. Gales expected for the coastal waters,
eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca, and northern inland waters. Small
Craft Advisory winds elsewhere through today. SCA winds tonight for
most waters with Small Craft winds through Friday for the coast.
Another system will approach the area Saturday night into Sunday for
increasing winds. Swells of 5 to 11 feet through today will increase
on Friday to 10 to 14 feet.

.HYDROLOGY...Wet weather pattern expected Thursday through early
next week, with the heaviest precipitation potentially Sunday into
Monday. A rise on the rivers is expected and though widespread
flooding is not forecast at this time, the Skokomish River could
potentially reach minor flood stage on Monday. There is
uncertainty in the forecast, specifically on the exact QPF amounts
and snow levels. This will need to be monitored.
