.UPDATE /0900 AM/...No major changes in the forecast this Monday
morning. Showers will continue to move through the area. There
remains a slight chance of thunderstorms through the day, mainly
off the coast. As of this writing there has only been one flash of
lightning just off of the Northern Oregon coast. There remains the
chance of some lowland snow during the next few days, particularly
for during the overnight/early morning hours.

.SYNOPSIS...Wet and unsettled weather will continue through the
first portion of the week with a broad upper level trough
remaining near or over the Pacific Northwest. Several embedded
disturbances will give way to periods of more widespread showers
across the region before the trough moves onshore Tuesday, with
snow levels remaining low. Another system will follow on Wednesday
before a brief break on Thursday; however, this will be a short-
lived break with another disturbance set to move across the region
by the weekend.

.SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...Another morning, another
round of showers moving across Western Washington. The main upper
trough continues a slow advance to the south and east toward the
region, with another embedded impulse bringing snow to the high
elevations, a rain/snow mix to the hilltops, and primarily rain to
the lowest elevations with temperatures mostly in the mid 30s to
around 40 across the lowlands this hour.
High-resolution guidance suggests a bit of a lull in shower
activity later this morning, before the next impulse rounds the
trough and we do it all over again this evening and tonight. Snow
levels remain low, around 1,500 to 2,000 ft, so any stronger
showers will have the potential to bring some sort of rain/snow/graupel
type mix down to sea level. Snow levels fall lower tonight into
early Tuesday morning, down to around 500 feet as the upper trough
moves more squarely over the region. This will bring a better
chance for some accumulating snow at lower elevations as yet
another impulse rounds the trough and brings yet another increase
in showers over the region for Tuesday morning. Again expect that
most will see some brief snow or rain/snow mix, but any noteworthy
accumulating snow will remain on the highest hills and more
certainly into the Cascades.
Guidance continues to then indicate that another low pressure
system will develop and bring a front into the region late Tuesday
and into Wednesday. There remains a fair amount of spread within
the ensembles with the track of this low and how cold the air mass
will be, as well as how much moisture will push through Western
Washington. There has been reasonable agreement that at least some
moisture will clip our area before the bulk of it is pushed south
into Oregon. It's worth noting that latest NBM probabilities of
snowfall accumulation have increased for places like the Kitsap
Peninsula and around Hood Canal for early Wednesday morning with
this system with weak easterly flow possibly enhancing the upslope
forcing. Latest NBM guidance suggests about a 50% chance of 1
inch accumulation at Bremerton, for example.
Potential for any significant snow accumulation remains much
lower for the Paine Field through Chehalis corridor, where
probabilities favor only a few tenths of an inch, if any
accumulations at all. So all this to say that it's increasingly
likely that if enough moisture remains across our area, and it
arrives as expected during the coldest time of day with cold air
overhead, many will likely see a period of snow or rain/snow, even
down to sea level, but widespread significant impacts are not
expected. Tuesday will likely be the coldest day of the short term
with daytime temperatures only reaching around 40 and overnight
lows near or below the freezing mark for most. Cullen
.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...Thursday looks to be a
transition day with the trough pushing away and heights rising,
with a shift to an increasingly dry pattern Thursday into at
least the late Thursday night or early Friday. Ensembles remain in
good agreement that the upper ridge will quickly weaken with the
next stronger Pacific frontal system entering the area. At this
point, snow levels look to be higher than they'll be most of the
week and they'll likely settle closer to 2,000 or 2,500 ft during
the bulk of the precipitation. However, it is possible that we'll
see another round of heavier mountain snow at the passes late
Friday into through Saturday, so those planning to head into the
mountains or over the Cascades will want to closely monitor the

.AVIATION...An upper level trough will maintain a cool and showery
air mass across western Washington today. Expect scattered
showers across the region with a slight chance of thunderstorms
along the coast. The flow aloft is southerly. Ceilings will be mix
of VFR and MVFR this morning. Predominant VFR expected this
afternoon as shower activity decreases somewhat. Another upper
level disturbance will swing across the area tonight for an
increase in shower activity and ceilings dropping back to MVFR at

kt. Winds will flip back to southerly around 00-03z. Ceilings

.MARINE...A frontal system will move through the area this
morning - Small Craft Advisories remain in affect. Winds will
ease behind this system later today into Tuesday. A second
vigorous frontal system will clip the area as it moves inland to
the south Tuesday night and Wednesday with another round of gales
possible for the Coastal Waters. East to northeast flow on
Thursday will turn southerly again on Friday as another front
approaches from the west.
West swell 15-20 feet over the Coastal Waters and West Entrance
Strait of Juan de Fuca will gradually subside today and Tuesday,
dropping below 10 feet around Tuesday night. 27/33

.HYDROLOGY...Chehalis River has crested just below flood stage at
Porter this morning just below flood stage, so the ESF has been
ended with the end of any threat for river flooding from this
event. No other river flooding concerns through the next seven
days under a cooler, showery pattern with lower snow levels and
general precipitation amounts remaining below hydrologically
impactful amounts.
