.SYNOPSIS...Wet and unsettled weather will continue through the
start of the week as a broad upper level trough influences the
Pacific Northwest. Several embedded disturbances will give way
to periods of more widespread showers across the region before
the trough moves onshore Tuesday. Another system will follow on
Wednesday before a brief break in the unsettled weather occurs
Thursday. This break will likely be short-lived, with another
disturbance set to move across the region by the weekend.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...No updates planned this
evening. Previous discussion follows. 16
Radar showing widespread scattered showers across the region this
afternoon. With snow levels remaining near 1500 ft today and
showers remaining more characteristically convective in nature,
areas under any heavier showers could still see some brief periods
of a rain/snow mix at times. With cool air aloft and decent
instability offshore, have maintained the chances of isolated
thunderstorms along the coast this afternoon and evening as well.
Westerly flow will gradually become more southwesterly tonight as
the upper level trough digs across the northeastern Pacific. An
impulse in the flow aloft will move across the region tonight,
bringing the potential for some more widespread showers to move
across western Washington. Given the favorable upper level set-
up, this could potentially enhance snow totals across the southern
Olympics and portions of the North Cascades, like Mt. Baker,
during the overnight period and into the morning hours on Monday.
Have held off on a winter weather advisory for these areas for
now, however this will need to continue to be monitored by later
shifts.
The upper level trough will remain offshore on Monday, before
moving inland on Tuesday. Embedded disturbances in the flow aloft
will continue to bring showers to the region through the day
Monday, before the system moves inland on Tuesday and showers
start to taper. However, wrap around moisture from the system
will be a feature to watch on Tuesday as the potential for light
snow or a rain/snow mix remains possible for the lowlands during
the early morning hours. Currently, do not expect any significant
impacts to area at this time, as anything that falls should
remain light. However, the trend will bear watching over the
coming day. Another upper level disturbance will move across the
region early Wednesday. With snow levels below 1000 feet early in
the morning, could see another chance of either some light snow
or a rain/snow mix for portions of the lowlands. Again, do not
expect any significant impacts at this time as confidence in
timing and any potential accumulations remains low. Nonetheless,
the trends will bear watching as more guidance becomes available.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...Ensembles remain in pretty
decent agreement regarding a break in the wet and unsettled
conditions Thursday into Friday as an upper level trough exits
the region and an upper level ridge moves in from the west. Given
clearing associated with the ridge, morning lows look to drop into
the upper 20s to low 30s by Friday morning - making Friday
morning's temperatures potentially the coolest of the week. The
break in the weather will remain short-lived, however, as another
upper level disturbance drops down from the Gulf of Alaska and
moves into the region by the weekend. 14

.AVIATION...An upper trough will remain offshore with southwest
flow aloft tonight becoming south on Monday. A frontal wave will
through the area later tonight and Monday morning for an increase
in showers. The air mass will remain moist and a bit unstable.
There will be a mix of low and mid clouds. The lower ceilings will
generally be in and near scattered showers.
KSEA...A mix of low and mid clouds should continue through Monday
with scattered showers. Lower ceilings will probably be more
prevalent Monday morning as a frontal wave moves through and
showers are more widespread for a few hours. Light southerly wind
looks to become more easterly tonight then perhaps switch to
north for a few hours Monday afternoon. 16

.MARINE...A frontal system will move through the area tonight and
Monday morning. Gale force winds are likely over the Coastal
Waters with small craft advisory strength winds elsewhere. Winds
will ease behind this system later Monday into Tuesday. A second
vigorous frontal system will clip the area as it moves inland to
the south Tuesday night and Wednesday with another round of gales
possible for the Coastal Waters. East to northeast flow on
Thursday will turn southerly again on Friday as another front
approaches from the west.
West swell 15-18 feet over the Coastal Waters and West Entrance
Strait of Juan de Fuca will gradually subside Monday and Tuesday,
dropping below 10 feet around Tuesday night. 16

.HYDROLOGY...The Chehalis was cresting at the Grand Mound gauge
early this afternoon and will crest at Porter late tonight. Showers
will increase through tonight but with a fairly low snow level there
shouldn't be any problems and even organized bands of showers will
probably only put down around a half inch of water. As we get into
next week river flooding is not expected--the weather pattern will
be on the chilly side and generally on the dry side. 19
