.SYNOPSIS...Upper level trough moving through tonight. Shower
activity decreasing behind the trough Monday. Next system will
move through the area Tuesday for another round of rain, gusty
winds and mountain snow. Weak upper level ridge trying to build
Wednesday before atmospheric river arrives late Thursday into
Friday. Another front will move through next weekend.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...A cool upper trough will
continue to bring lowland showers and mountain snow tonight.
However, we will see a break in the weather on Monday with
offshore flow. No changes from the previous forecast. 33
Previous discussion...Satellite imagery shows plenty of cumulus
over the area this afternoon with the cumulus field stretching
well offshore. Doppler radar showing showers over most of the area
at 3 pm/23z. Temperatures were in the 40s.
Upper level trough moving through Western Washington later this
evening. This will increase the shower activity as the trough axis
moves through, especially in the Cascades with a little increase
in orographics also adding to the precipitation totals. Another 4
to 10 inches of new snow possible overnight into early Monday
morning. Will keep the winter weather advisories going until 4 am
Monday. Snow level will be near or just below 3000 feet. Still a
chance for thunder near the coast this evening but with some
warming aloft after the trough passage lapse rates will decrease
which in turn will result in a decrease in the instability of the
air mass and bring about an end to the thunder chances. Lows
Monday morning in the upper 30s to mid 40s.
The driest day of the month so far in store Monday with a few
lingering showers in the morning. Upper level low dropping out of
the Gulf of Alaska will buckle the zonal flow across the eastern
Pacific creating a weak upper level ridge to the east of Western
Washington. This will help dry out most of the area Monday
afternoon. Air mass warming slightly combined with some sunshine
will warm high temperatures back up closer to normal, in the lower
to mid 50s.
Upper level low turning northeast Monday night with the
associated front offshore becoming more negatively tilted. This
will slow down the eastward movement of the front Monday night
with rain out ahead of the front spreading over the area overnight
into early Tuesday morning. There is a chance the precipitation
will not reach the Cascades by 12z Tuesday. Lows in the 40s.
Front moving through Western Washington Tuesday with another round
of rain, locally windy conditions and snow in the mountains. Snow
levels not increasing much keeping the snow levels near the pass
levels during the day. Showers behind the front Tuesday afternoon.
Highs again in the lower to mid 50s.
Weak upper level ridge building offshore Tuesday night and
Wednesday with shower activity decreasing over Western Washington
especially Wednesday.
.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...Models and ensembles coming
into good agreement with another atmospheric river scenario
developing over Western Washington Thursday afternoon through
Friday morning with the heaviest rain overnight Thursday. Snow
levels rising to 6500 feet in the North Cascades and up to 8500
feet in the South Cascades. Weak upper level ridge building
offshore Friday will pinch off the flow of moisture into Western
Washington. Operational model solutions inconsistent over the
weekend with the GFS developing another atmospheric river scenario
with the river aimed at Northern and Central Vancouver Island
Sunday night and Monday. The ECMWF brings another front through
the area Saturday night. Strong westerly flow aloft Sunday and
Monday with precipitation mostly in the mountains and then south
of the area. Model ensemble solutions off both models are more in
line with the frontal passage solution. Will go with rain likely

.AVIATION...Broad upper trough offshore with southwest flow aloft
continuing over Western Washington. The air mass is moist and
somewhat unstable. Showers decreasing overnight as weak ridging
brings briefly drier conditions Monday. Ceilings will remain a mix
between VFR and MVFR with showers this evening then lifting to
VFR by mid morning Monday. Gusty S/SW surface winds easing late
tonight.
KSEA...A mix of MVFR and VFR ceilings with scattered showers.
Showers diminishing overnight becoming VFR Monday morning through
the afternoon. Surface winds southerly 15 gusting 25 knots...easing
late tonight...then becoming E/SE 5 to 10 knots on Monday. 27

.MARINE...An active weather pattern will remain in place over the
Pacific Northwest over the next week. Winds may subside for a
short period of time on Monday before quickly picking up again
Monday evening and Tuesday as a very strong area of low pressure
migrates towards Haida Gwaii. Anticipate gales over the coastal
waters and perhaps the northern interior waters. Winds look to
continue to remain breezy on Wednesday out of the S, with the
potential to finally ease some late in the week. Seas are expected
to hover between 10-12 ft the first half of the upcoming week.

Possible heavy rain combined with rising snow levels will put
rivers under pressure late Thursday into next weekend. Flooding is
likely on the Skokomish river in Mason county Friday and Saturday
