.SYNOPSIS...A series of weather systems will move through the
region through next week. Periods of rain and gusty winds will occur
at times in this active November weather pattern.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...At 4pm the wind was
finally kicking up around Seattle--with gusts of 30-40mph around
the city. Naturally the gradients came up as the forecast went
out--and OLM-BLI was +5.6mb at 4pm. Also, the tide was running
1.1ft higher in Seattle than the tide table prediction, so we
issued a coastal flood advisory for the high tide which is around
440pm in Seattle--we should see something around 13.2' which is
about when we expect tidal overflow flooding to begin. That and the
wind waves should make Alki pretty wet late this afternoon.
Western Washington is sure to have some blustery periods through the
weekend and into next week. It looks like the tide at Westport was
about 1.4ft above the tide table prediction--the tide on Friday will
probably not be quite as high, so we will skip a coastal flood
advisory for the early Friday afternoon high tide on the coast--at
least for now. Saturday afternoon is a better bet for some coastal
tidal overflow as we get into a set so-called king tides for a few
days.
Showers will decrease overnight and then the next front arrives
around daybreak Friday. That front looks like pretty routine stuff.
After rain Friday morning, we go back to a more showery air mass by
Friday evening, and then yet another frontal system arrives Saturday
morning. The ECMWF has a 1003mb low over UIL 18z Saturday and a
pretty decent pressure gradient over the coast and Puget Sound as
well. The GFS is about ten millibars deeper but sends it toward
Tofino. In any event, Saturday looks like our next chance for some
windy weather. For Sunday, there is sure to be a lot of shower
activity in the onshore flow--maybe just be periods of rain. 19
.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...Monday looks like it could be
a better day than what we have in the forecast. Both the ECMWF and
GFS show a break in the weather, and and there is a chance that
Western Washington will have offshore flow Monday afternoon and
night ahead of the next weather system. For Tuesday through
Thursday, we are back into wet blustery weather--with Tuesday
looking like the windiest day for now. There's pretty good agreement
between the 12z Euro and GFS with a decent secondary low in about
the right spot to give Western Washington some winds. The Canadian
model has the secondary low weaker and into the Oregon coast. That
said, it doesn't make sense to bank on any given forecast that far
ahead of time, after all, the pressure gradient forecast was pretty
far off today, so the error bars are pretty big as we start to look
at the details of next week. At the least, typical November weather
is a good bet so don't plan on any outdoor picnics except for maybe
Monday afternoon and evening. 19

.AVIATION...Southwest flow continuing aloft as one frontal system
departs the area and the next approaches the region overnight. The
air mass is moist and generally stable. A mix of MVFR and VFR
ceilings in scattered showers will persist into the evening hours.
Ceilings are expected to improve to predominantly VFR overnight, but
will deteriorate back to MVFR in increasing rain by daybreak Friday.
Gusty S/SW surface winds this afternoon will ease tonight.
KSEA...A batch of post-frontal showers with MVFR ceilings will move
across the area through 00Z then dissipate this evening. Mainly VFR
ceilings expected overnight...then dropping back to MVFR 12Z-15Z
Friday morning as rain increases ahead of next front. Surface winds

.MARINE...Borderline gales for the coastal waters and small craft
advisory winds for the inland waters continuing into this evening as
surface ridge shifts inland. Another round of small craft advisory
level winds continuing across the waters on Friday as another
frontal system sweeps across the area. A stronger system will arrive
early Saturday with gales for the coastal waters and portions of the
inland waters. The storm track will bring additional systems across
the waters well into next week with more headlines expected. Coastal
seas in the double digits will continue into early next week. 27

.HYDROLOGY...A flood warning is up for the Skokomish River in
Mason county, the river will recede later tonight and drop below
flood stage sometime during the day Friday at Potlatch. This period
of active weather will be monitored into next week, after all,
November is often the wettest month of the year in Western
Washington and the jetstream looks strong and active through mid-
month. Plumes of high precipitable water in strong southwest flow
aloft--slow moving baroclinic zones, or as we say these days,
atmospheric rivers are sure to be directed a few times into Western
Washington in the weeks ahead. 19
