.SYNOPSIS...Wet and unsettled weather will continue across Western
Washington throughout the next week as a series of systems traverse
the region. Rain, gusty winds, and mountain snow will be likely
at times as these systems move across the area.
&&
.SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...A 987mb low is moving to
Queen Charlotte Sound this morning, and the trough extends south
along the waters off Vancouver Island, Washington and Oregon. The
trough will move ashore this afternoon with blustery winds
developing. We are shooting for wind gusts to around 40 mph across
the interior--especially near the water and along the I-5 corridor.
The coast has a wind advisory where it should probably be a bit
stronger as the flow turns more westerly today.
The areas of heavy rain over the Puget Sound area this morning will
turn to showers for the afternoon, and showers will decrease later
today. There is a chance of a thunderstorm or two, mainly near the
coast.
Minor tidal overflow will also be possible for areas along the coast
near the midday or early afternoon high tide due to a combination of
low atmospheric pressure, gusty winds, and high astronomical tides.
Flooding of parking lots, parks, and roads will be possible along
the immediate coast.
The majority of western Washington will then see a brief break in
the rain tonight, ahead of the next system slated to arrive on
Friday. The system on Friday looks to remain rather progressive,
bringing another quick shot of rain to the region. Given a cooler
airmass in place, snow levels look to fall to between 3500-4000
ft on Friday and could bring some light snow accumulations to
Stevens Pass. Another system on Saturday will then bring additional
rain to the lowlands and snow to the mountains. Snow levels look
to then drop down between 2500-3000 ft for additional light accumulations
for both passes on Saturday. Isolated chances of thunder also remain
possible, primarily for areas along the coast and southwest
interior as these systems make their way through the region. 19
.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...Wet and unsettled
conditions will persist throughout the extended period, with
ensembles and deterministic models indicating upper level troughing
remaining the dominant influence across the northeastern Pacific.
This will continue to keep the door open for additional systems
to move across western Washington into early next week. Snow
amounts will start to pick up across the mountains early next week
and high temperatures will be in the upper 40s to low 50s across
the majority of the lowlands. 14

.AVIATION...South/southwest flow aloft across the region with a
frontal system moving through the area. Rain at times expected
through much of the day with periods of MVFR around heavier precip.
Some areas of ceilings lifting toward 00z with gusty southerly
surface winds developing by midday and continuing into this evening.
KSEA...Rain at times with periods of MVFR ceilings and breezy
southerly surface winds much of the day. Rain tapers to showers late
afternoon/evening with likely return to VFR conditions. Winds remain
gusty through evening, before easing overnight tonight.

.MARINE...Increasing winds through the day today as a front
approaches. Expect gales over the coastal waters this morning and
spreading over the inland waters through the day. Seas initially
around 10 to 12 feet, but will likely build and become increasingly
wind-dominated today and approach 15 ft by evening. Several
additional fronts will arrive through early next week, bringing
several additional rounds of stronger winds. Seas over the coastal
waters will remain elevated through the weekend, perhaps building
close to 18-20 ft Saturday, in a mix of wind wave and west swell,
and likely remaining above 10 ft through at least the start of next
week.
