.SYNOPSIS...A frontal system continue across western Washington
this evening, bringing rain and windy conditions to the region.
Unsettled weather will persist into Friday, before another system
traverses the region on Saturday. A stronger system may impact the
region Sunday into Monday, however uncertainty still exists
regarding its track. Additional systems early next week will keep
western Washington in a wet and active weather pattern.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...Forecast remains on track
this evening, with the front and associated rain slowly advancing
across the region. Previous short term discussion follows.
Rain will taper to showers overnight, with Friday generally
expected to remain rather showery and unsettled. Isolated
thunderstorms will still be possible at times through Friday
morning, mainly for areas along the coast. Hi-res guidance also
shows the potential for a convergence zone to develop and linger
across the central Sound Friday morning. Showers will then
gradually taper through the afternoon, however there will not much
of a dry break between showers and the incoming system on
Saturday, which will bring another round of widespread rain and
breezy winds. However, the system on Saturday does not look to be
too impactful to the region at this time.
The strongest of the series of systems then looks to arrive on
Sunday, bringing the potential for more widespread impacts to
areas across western Washington through Monday. A great deal of
uncertainty still exists regarding the track of the system, so it
will be important to keep updated with the latest forecast trends
over the coming days. Have outlined the potential impacts
regarding the Sunday - Monday system below:
Winds: The biggest uncertainty will reside in the winds as the
track of the system will play a vital role. Overall, this system
will bring the potential for a longer-duration wind event, with
southeasterly winds expected to increase starting Sunday morning
and remaining elevated through Monday morning. Areas that
currently look to have the potential for the strongest winds
include the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the coast, and areas across
the northern interior (primarily north of Everett). Ensembles
hint that the current, most likely scenario for lowland areas east
of the Sound are to experience sustained winds of 15-20 mph, with
gusts to 35-40 mph possible.
Rain: This system will bring another round of widespread rain to
western Washington. Current rainfall totals from Sunday to Monday
morning look to be between a quarter of an inch to half an inch
for the majority of the lowlands, while the coast could see
anywhere from three quarters of an inch to one inch. While amounts
with this single system are not rather high, it is important to
take into account any moderate to heavy rain at times could lead
to ponding on area roadways and minor urban flooding of poor
drainage areas. In addition, sharp rises on area rivers will be
possible-especially given the cumulative rainfall from earlier
systems in the week. For more info, see the hydro section below

High Surf: With a large west swell building behind the front and
reaching the coast late Sunday and into Monday, there does remain
some concern for high surf along the ocean beaches. Along with
this possible concern, will also need to continue to monitor the
total water level guidance as a combination of tide and storm
surge may be sufficient to possibly create some minor tidal
overflow issues. However, this will remain very dependent on the
track and timing of the low development, so confidence in precise
details remains low for now.
Mountain Snow: Snow levels will drop down between 4000-5000 feet
by Monday morning. Overall, do not expect much in the way of
mountain snow to impact the passes, however a few light accumulations
cannot be ruled out for Stevens Pass. Those with pass travel in
mind will want to stay updated with the latest forecast updates
through the weekend.
.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...Overall, a wet and
unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue through the
start of the long term, as ensemble guidance continues to hint at
upper level troughing remaining the dominant influence across the
Pacific Northwest through midweek. Both ensemble clusters and
deterministic guidance then hint at the potential for some upper
level ridging to build along the West Coast late in the week,
however the ridge currently does not look amplified enough to
deflect additional late-week systems away from Washington. Rather,
it looks like western Washington will remain rather wet and
unsettled through much of late week-so have trended the forecast
in this way for now. 14

.AVIATION...Strong southwest flow aloft with moisture increasing
at all levels this evening. Vigorous frontal system associated
with deep upper trough offshore will move across the region late
tonight. MVFR ceilings in rain expected to persist across the area
into Friday morning before gradually lifting to low end VFR Friday
afternoon as post-frontal shower activity decreases.
KSEA...MVFR in rain persisting through Friday morning before
gradually lifting in the afternoon with scattered post-frontal
showers continuing to move across the area. Surface winds S/SE 6 to

.MARINE...Gale warnings remain in place for the coastal waters
this evening. While the front continues to advance, it is expected
that a brief period of stronger winds may develop over the
northern coastal zones as a trailing occluded front clips the
waters. As a result, will maintain the existing Gale Warning
through the overnight period, before it will likely be replaced by
a small craft advisory. Meanwhile, small craft advisories remain
in effect for the remaining marine zones as breezy winds continue.
Meanwhile, heavy rain with the front and associated low clouds
will likely sharply reduce visibility to less than a mile as the
front passes. Some thunderstorms also possible across the waters
overnight and into Friday.
Another front crosses the waters Saturday, but likely not as strong
as today's system, and likely only a few advisory headlines will be
needed for some zones. Attention then turns a potentially much
stronger system that moves into the waters early Sunday. While
confidence remains somewhat lower with respect to how strong the low
gets and where exactly it tracks, confidence is somewhat increased
today with respect to the potential for gales over at least portions
of the waters. Additionally, expect waves to build this evening over
the coastal waters as a larger southwest swell arrives. Seas will
fluctuate between 10 and 15 feet with each system through the
weekend, but will likely build more significantly Sunday/Monday as
the much stronger low likely approaches. For now have indicated seas
building to around 25 ft over the outer portions of the waters and
closer to 20 ft closer to shore, though there does remain considerably
uncertainty with some guidance suggesting a 5+ ft range on either
side of the current forecast remaining within the span of
possible outcomes at this time.

.HYDROLOGY...A fairly active weather pattern across western
Washington for much of the forecast period will lead to increased
flow in area rivers. While river flooding is not currently
forecast for area rivers, it cannot be ruled out due to the
cumulative rainfall expected throughout the next week. Rivers,
such as the Skokomish, will need to continue to be closely monitored.
The amount of precip actually received is going to play a big
role in how quickly river levels rise, but with few breaks in the
rain expected, the cumulative impact may result in flooding by
