The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  South Central Braxton County in north central West Virginia...
  Northern Nicholas County in southeastern West Virginia...

* Until 215 PM EDT.

* At 1124 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the 
  warned area. Between 1.25 and 1.75 inches of rain have fallen in a 
  very short period of time. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected 
  to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Birch River.

This includes the following streams and drainages...
  Powell Creek, Strange Creek, Birch River, Poplar Creek, Little 
  Birch River, Polemic Run and Trace Fork.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become 
unstable and unsafe.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where 
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become 
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or 
creeks.
