In addition to the threat of flash flooding, there is a marginal
risk of severe thunderstorms, with the primary risk from damaging
downburst winds.

An approaching cold front will trigger scattered thunderstorms on
Friday afternoon and evening. Some of these storms may be strong to
severe with a primary threat of damaging winds.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected through tonight.
These will be capable of producing locally heavy rain and could
result in some localized flooding. There is also a marginal risk of
strong to severe thunderstorms, with a primary threat of damaging
wind gusts.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

An approaching cold front will trigger scattered thunderstorms on
Friday afternoon and evening. Some of these storms may be strong to
severe with a primary threat of damaging winds.

EDGECOMBE AND SOUTHEASTERN HALIFAX COUNTIES UNTIL 245 PM EDT...

At 141 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Scotland Neck, or 10 miles southwest of Rich Square, moving northeast
at 30 mph.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph will be possible with this storm.

Heavy rain and minor flooding and cloud to ground lightning will
also be possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Scotland Neck, Enfield, Whitakers, Tillery and Battleboro.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Seek shelter in a nearby building or vehicle. Wind gusts as high as
40 mph are capable of knocking down tree limbs and blowing around
trash cans, potted plants, lawn furniture and other light outdoor
objects.

Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in
ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and
minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid
hydroplaning, especially in urban areas where prolonged heavy rain
can quickly lead to flooding.

will also be possible with this storm.
