...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 500 PM EDT
FOR EAST CENTRAL QUEEN ANNE'S AND NORTHEASTERN CAROLINE COUNTIES...

At 439 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Goldsboro, or
12 miles east of Centerville, moving east at 35 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Minor damage to vehicles is possible. Wind damage to roofs, 
         siding, trees, and power lines is possible.

Locations impacted include...
Greensboro, Oakland, Ridgely, Goldsboro, Henderson, Marydel and
Templeville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

To report severe weather contact your nearest law enforcement agency.

The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe
limits, and has exited the warned area. Therefore, the warning will
be allowed to expire.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM EDT for
central Delaware...and eastern and northeastern Maryland.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front crossing the area late this afternoon will move
offshore tonight. High pressure will then build across our region
for Thursday and Friday moving offshore over the weekend. Another
cold front will move through the area Monday night into Tuesday,
stalling to our south.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Severe Thunderstorm Watch 385 remains in effect until 8 pm for
the majority of the forecast area. Only Carbon and Monroe
counties are not included in the Watch.

Cold front over central Pennsylvania and into central New York
continues to approach. A pre-frontal trough has developed ahead
of it and is working its way through New Jersey. With outflow
boundary that was over the area late last night into this
morning having washed out, temperatures rose into the 80s and
dew points rose well into the 60s and low 70s. CIN is gone. As a
result, SB CAPE values range from 1000-1500 J/kg across the
southern Poconos and far northwest New Jersey, and from
2500-3500 J/kg across the rest of New Jersey, southeast
Pennsylvania, and Delmarva. Highest downdraft CAPE values are
along southeast New Jersey and into Delmarva, ranging from
800-100 J/kg, and even portions of southeast Pennsylvania are
over 500 J/kg. Mid-level lapse rates are around 6C, and low
level lapse rates are over 7C, even approaching 8C towards
Delmarva. Even PWATs are over 1.5 inches, indicating threat for
heavy rain.

With steep lapse rates, once storms develop, updrafts will
intensify. Wet bulb zero heights are on or around 1000 feet,
which are fairly low for this time of the year.

Convection has initiated with the strongest storms over
southeast New Jersey, and another area of storms moving into
the Lehigh Valley and Berks county. Focus should be on portions
of New Jersey mainly south of the Fall Line, and towards the
coast. Another area of storms likely towards the Delaware
Valley, including Philadelphia.

Damaging winds and large hail primary threats, with locally
heavy rain and frequent lightning also expected.

Cold front moves through the region this evening. Behind the
immediate passage of the cold front, there may be some northwest
winds gusting 20-25 mph for an hour or so. The storms and the
passage of the cold front will allow for much of the smoke and
haze to dissipate. Thereafter, northwest winds diminish to
nearly calm levels for the overnight. Skies become clear.
Surface dew points drop into the 50s by daybreak.

Thursday features what will likely be the nicest day of July, if
not the whole year. High pressure builds into the Ohio Valley
and 850 mb temps will be around 10C. High temps will generally
be in the lower 80s, except for the upper 70s in the southern
Poconos and northwest New Jersey. A drying northwest wind both
at the surface and aloft will allow for mixing, and surface dew
points will drop into the low 50s.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
High pressure continues to build over the area. then weakens
Saturday. Two mostly dry days are expected with temperatures
close to or a bit above normal. Dew points will be quite low
Friday for a pleasant feel to the air. By Saturday, dew points
will be back in the 60s, so a bit sticky by late afternoon. A
couple showers or perhaps a tstm possible later Saturday across
the far wrn areas. Pops are only slight chance attm.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Back to summertime conditions late this weekend and extending
into early next week. The upper trough softens and moves away
while the ridge from upstream weakens while arriving across the
Great Lakes. Plenty of summer-like temps under this ridge arrive
later Sunday and will remain into next week. Several short waves
will move across the Northeast and Middle Atlantic region under
the NW flow aloft. We will feature showers/tstms mostly for the
late afternoon and early evening hours through the early part
of the week.

Temperatures Sun thru Wed will be mostly in the upper 80s/low
90s for Highs. Lows will be mostly in the upper 60s to low 70s.
The humidity levels will likely return to muggy again, so enjoy
the short break over the next few days. Upper winds will be mostly
from the NW aloft, so it's also possible that some of the smoke/haze
from the Wrn US/Canada wildfires could make a return.

.AVIATION /18Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of this afternoon (18Z-00Z)...MVFR VSBY in HZ will
dissipate, and VSBY will become VFR. SHRA/TSRA with brief sub-
VFR conditions in +RA, hail, and potentially damaging winds.
Will carry TEMPO groups for convection until 21Z-22Z. W-NW winds
less than 10 kt, except higher in TSRA over terminals. Gusts to
20 kt possible for a few hours behind immediate passage of cold
front. High confidence in overall pattern, low confidence on
timing of TSRA passing over a given terminal.

Tonight (00Z-12Z)...VFR/becoming SKC. NW winds 5 kt or less.
High confidence.

Thursday (12Z-00Z)...VFR. NW winds less than 10 kt. High
confidence.

Outlook...

Thursday night thru Friday night... VFR expected.

Saturday...Mostly VFR. A couple showers far west possible
during the afternoon.

Sunday and Monday...VFR much of the time but scattered
showers/tstms with lower CIGS/VSBYS possible.

Tonight through Thursday...In generally, sub-SCA conditions.
Showers and thunderstorms into early this evening will result in
VSBY restrictions in heavy rain, hail, and damaging winds.
Storms end between 8pm-10pm. Winds turns NW tonight at 15-20 kt,
but not expecting 25 kt gusts. NW winds diminish Thursday
morning, and there is the potential for afternoon sea breezes
Thursday afternoon. Seas 2-4 feet.

Thursday night through Monday... Sub-Small Craft Advisory
conditions are expected across the area waters. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms on Saturday night thru and Monday may
produce locally higher winds and waves.

Rip Currents...

This afternoon through Thursday...There is a LOW risk for the
development of dangerous rip currents.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
There is the potential that high tide tonight on the tidal Delaware
River may hit minor flooding again but should remain below advisory
levels.

Going into the Thursday and Friday evening high tides, some coastal
areas could approach at least minor flood thresholds. The full moon
is on Friday which will lead to higher astronomical tides Thursday
and Friday, but there may also be enough of a down-shore component
to the wind to push enough water back toward land to increase tidal
levels, especially on Thursday.
