.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will move offshore tonight. Strong high pressure
will then gradually become established this weekend and into
early next week. Another cold front may move through the region
towards the middle of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Will cancel portions of Severe Thunderstorm Watch 236 that
covered parts of southeast Pennsylvania and portions of northern
New Jersey. Will keep the rest in effect until 8 pm.

With the building heat and humidity, SB CAPE values have risen
to 2000-2500 J/kg, and DCAPE values are 300-500 J/kg.

The base of an upper trough is through eastern Pennsylvania and
moving into New Jersey. A weakening surface trough follows it.

Showers and thunderstorms along the I-95 corridor are moving
east of the I-95 corridor into New Jersey and south towards
northern Delaware. Storms are on track to move offshore between
7pm-9pm.

0-6 km Bulk Shear will be less than 30 kt. CAPE values may
bubble up a bit higher over the next couple of hours, but the
2500 J/kg range looks good. Heavy rain, damaging winds, and
large hail are possible with severe storms.

Behind exiting trough, high pressure builds in from the west.
Skies clear out tonight. Behind this trough is not much in the
way of cooler and drier air, and with winds becoming nearly
calm, the air mass will become stagnant overnight. Especially in
areas where rain fall, there is the chance for fog to develop.
Will add patchy fog to the forecast throughout.

On Saturday, a hot air mass builds into the region from the
west. Surface dew points in the morning will generally be in the
mid to upper 60s, but west winds pick up in the afternoon,
gusting to 20 mph or so. This should allow for some mixing and
for dew points to drop into the upper 50s/low 60s. Highs will be
around 90 in most locations, except cooler in the southern
Poconos, and along the immediate coasts. With the lowering dew
points in the afternoon around the time of peak heating, heat
index values will not be much higher than the actual air temp.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
Ridging begins to build in earnest over the East for the second
half of the weekend as a strong Bermuda high pattern takes
shape. A long fetch of southwesterly return flow will draw
warmer and more humid air into the region. Following warm
weather on Saturday, lows on Saturday night will only drop into
the mid and upper 60s, a good indicator of increasing air mass
moisture. Highs on Sunday will rise into the low to locally mid
90s , with an afternoon sea breeze bringing relief at the coast.
Diurnal cumulus development is likely, but dry weather is
expected with no synoptic forcing for ascent over the area.
Cannot completely rule out a shower developing on the sea breeze
but kept PoPs below slgt chc. Lows Sunday night will struggle
to drop below 70, bringing little relief from the daytime heat.
Some overnight fog is possible especially over southeastern
portions of the area.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Overview...

The heat is on for early next week as strong and expansive
ridging dominates the western Atlantic and eastern US. This will
lead to at least a couple more days of highs in the 90s heading
into the new week. Towards the middle of next week, the axis of
large scale ridging shifts west as troughing and an associated
surface frontal system drop southward into New England. This
will likely send a cold front towards our region around midweek.
A major cooldown is unlikely, but the edge should come off the
heat later next week. Regarding rainfall chances, much of the
time next week looks dry, but the chances for afternoon
convection will increase with time. The overall potential for
severe weather and heavy rainfall appears fairly low.

Dailies...

Monday-Tuesday night... Hot and humid weather expected as upper
level ridging and surface return flow remain in place. Highs
both Monday and Tuesday will be in the 90s over most of the
area. For what it's worth, guidance has trended a little bit
lower on the high temperatures, which looks to be mainly due to
a little more cloud cover and a slightly weaker/flatter ridge.
Have nudged the forecast highs downward a couple of degrees, but
remain slightly above consensus. Regardless, it will be a hot
stretch, and the forecast continues to suggest the potential for
Heat Advisory thresholds to be met at least in the urban
corridor. Also, overnight lows near or even above 70 will mean
little relief from the heat at night. As the hot and humid air
mass remains in place, the chances for convection will
eventually increase. Coverage on Monday looks limited at best
and probably confined to western portions of the area due to a
lack of shear and forcing. By Tuesday, a better chance of
afternoon storms is forecast due to a more robust lee side
trough to our west and possibly a weak upper level disturbance.

Wednesday-Wednesday night... As the ridge axis retrogrades a
bit westward, an upper level trough will dive southward into New
England. Associated low pressure will track southward through
the Canadian maritimes and send a cold front towards our region.
As the front moves through, another round of scattered showers
and storms will be possible. The coverage, location, and
intensity of convection will largely be determined by frontal
timing/placement, though this setup (a front moving almost due
north to south) is not typically one that produces our bigger
severe weather or hydro events. Most indications are that
frontal timing will be slow enough for Wednesday to be another
hot day, with another round of highs near or above 90 in much of
the area.

Thursday-Friday... Forecast confidence is not especially high,
but behind the midweek cold front, at this point have favored
the scenario of mainly dry weather with near to slightly above
normal temperatures for later in the week. Lower humidity is
also expected as high pressure noses in to our north. However,
some of the guidance does show continued rainfall chances, which
could occur if the front gets hung up in our vicinity.

.AVIATION /20Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of the afternoon...SHRA/TSRA will impact terminals with
localized MVFR or IFR conditions. VFR otherwise. Will carry VCTS
and TEMPOs to cover storm potential. Storms now well east of
KRDG/KABE, and over KTTN/KPNE/KPHL/KILG. SW winds less than 10
kt. Moderate confidence.

Tonight...SHRA/TSRA end shortly after 00Z. VFR for most of the
night, though MVFR VSBY possible in fog after 08Z. Light SW
winds. High confidence.

Saturday...VFR. SW winds less than 10 kt, becoming 10-15 kt
with gusts up to 20 kt in the afternoon. Afternoon sea breezes
possible at KACY/KMIV. High confidence.

Outlook...

Saturday night-Sunday night... Mainly VFR. Patchy overnight fog
is possible, more so on Sunday night, especially near MIV/ACY.
Light southwest winds expected, which may be near calm during
the overnights. High confidence.

Monday-Monday night... Mainly VFR. Patchy fog possible early in
the morning and late at night. An isolated afternoon or evening
storm is possible mainly near RDG and ABE. Southwest wind 5 to
10 kt, lighter at night. Moderate confidence.

Tuesday-Wednesday... Prevailing VFR, but a better chance for
scattered afternoon and evening storms on both days. Some patchy
overnight and early morning fog is also possible. Southwest
wind 5 to 10 kt becoming light and variable Tuesday night and
light from the west or west-northwest on Wednesday.

.MARINE...
Near-shore showers and thunderstorms possible through this
evening, but any activity should end fairly quickly between 8pm-
10pm.

Sub-SCA conditions tonight through Saturday, though SW winds
will range from 15-20 kt on the ocean waters. Gusts to 25 kt not
expected due to a strong inversion as ocean temps will be
relatively colder than the land.

Outlook...

Saturday night-Wednesday... No marine headlines are anticipated
with seas 2 to 4 ft and southwest winds gusting 20 kt or less
through the period.

Rip Currents...

For today, the risk of rip currents along the New Jersey shore
is expected to be moderate due to southwesterly winds of 10 to
20 mph with some higher gusts. For coastline facing
predominantly southward, the rip current risk will be especially
elevated. For the Delaware beaches, the risk is expected to be
low. Similar conditions are expected on Saturday.
