The heavy rain has ended. More showers and thunderstorms are 
possible through the evening which may prompt additional flood

.SYNOPSIS...
A weak cold front will slide into the region tonight before
becoming stationary over or just south by tomorrow. The front
may lift north as a warm front Sunday night. Another cold front
could move through the region Monday into Monday night. The
remnant low of Hurricane Ida may progress along that frontal
boundary during the middle to later half of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Convection has blossomed across the area this afternoon. As
expected, it has been a weakly forced, chaotic evolution with fairly
widespread coverage but a lack of organization. Numerous sea breeze,
bay breeze, and outflow boundaries have developed and are
contributing to storm development in a very warm and moist air mass.
So far, storms motions have worked out such that hydro issues have
been fairly limited. However, torrential rainfall rates have been
observed, and the situation certainly remains favorable for flash
flooding. No changes have been made to the area of the Flash Flood
Watch. In addition, there have been several storms that have
produced downbursts, and at least a marginal threat for damaging
winds will continue through the evening with the strongest storm
cores. Towards sunset, we should transition to a hydro-only threat.

The evolution for the overnight period and into tomorrow remains
uncertain. The vort max we have been tracking remains to our west,
and will cause forcing to increase over the area tonight. And PWATs
remain very high over the area as the frontal boundary we have been
tracking remains to our north, at least early in the night. These
factors could help yield additional rounds of convection. However,
given a good deal of convection has already occurred, it is unclear
how much the atmosphere has been overturned. And the degree of
overturning will vary from place to place. For example, the Poconos
appear quite stable after earlier storms. However, a thunderstorm
affected portions of Philadelphia, and temperatures fell from the
low 90s to the 70s, then recovered back to near 90 within an hour or
two, indicating plenty of instability remains there. Overall, it
will likely remain a messy and low predictability event through the
night, but I do not expect we will be entirely done with convection
until at least late tonight. And with that will come a continued
risk for flash flooding.

By Saturday, the front will work southward through most of the area.
This and the overturning from prior convection should overall limit
the convective potential on Saturday. Higher PWATs and better
instability will be towards the coast and down south, so PoPs are
highest in those areas. Up north, a better chance for mainly dry
weather. There will also probably be a lot of stratus around in
areas north of the front, which will significantly limit
temperatures. Many areas will not get out of the 70s, and overall it
will probably not be a very "nice" day. But forecast confidence for
Saturday is quite low, pending the evolution of the next 12 to 18
hours. As such, will forego much detail until we get a little more
clarity with ongoing convection.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...

Depending on how close the front stalls to our region, some
chances for showers and thunderstorms could continue Saturday
night and Sunday. Even with the front south of our region,
overnight fog will continue to be possible as dew points should
remain in the 60s for much of the region.

Chances for showers and thunderstorms start to increase
considerably on Monday as the next cold front approaches the
region.

With the front south of our region on Sunday, highs should once
again be in the 70s and 80s. By Monday, assuming that the next
cold front won't arrive until later in the day, highs near 90
will once again be possible especially across the coastal
plains.

&&

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Unsettled conditions on tap for most of the week. The big
question is how the remnant low of Hurricane Ida interacts with
the front and the ultimate impacts for our region. If the front
is still near our region, tropical moisture associated with the
remnant could lift towards the area and may bring another round
of showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain to the region
sometime late Tuesday through Wednesday. It depends on its
track, and it is quite uncertain right now, as it could pass
well south of the region.

Another, possibly stronger, cold front may pass through the
region towards the end of next week with a cooler and dryer
airmass.

&&

.AVIATION /19Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Through 06z... At least periodic, localized VSBY restrictions are
likely due to widespread showers and tstms, though prevailing
conditions may remain VFR at most of the terminals. All of the
terminals will be at risk for restrictions, though some will no
doubt be affected more than others. Winds will be mostly light and
variable, but will be erratic due to the tstms. Some briefly higher
gusts are also possible due to tstms. Any tstms could produce
torrential rain. Moderate confidence overall but details will remain
uncertain.

Later tonight-Saturday... By later tonight, CIG and VSBY
restrictions become more likely due to low stratus and fog. There
may also still be showers or isolated tstms in the area. Widespread
MVFR seems probable, and a period of IFR for many of the terminals
appears likely late tonight into Saturday morning. From there, low
stratus will probably linger well into Saturday with continued
restrictions to at least MVFR levels. Some gradual improvement is
possible through the day. The light and erratic winds will become
more steady from the northeast by late tonight, and remain northeast
through Saturday with speeds 10 to 15 kt and gusts locally to 20 kt.
Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Saturday night...Conditions may start VFR, but there is a good
set up for either low stratus or fog with persistent onshore
flow. E-NE winds less than 10 kt. Low confidence.

Sunday through Sunday night...Mostly VFR. Scattered SHRA/TSRA
will result in localized sub-VFR conditions. Fog possible
Sunday night. E winds less than 10 kt, becoming SE, then S
Sunday night. Moderate confidence.

Monday through Monday night...Generally VFR. Afternoon and
evening SHRA/TSRA will result in localized restrictions. SW
winds less than 10 kt, becoming NW Monday night. Moderate
confidence.

Tuesday and Wednesday...Generally VFR. Scattered afternoon and
evening SHRA/TSRA possible. NW winds less than 10 kt, then
LGT/VRB Monday night. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
Through tonight... Sub-SCA conditions are expected. Showers and
tstms are possible. Winds shifting from southwest to northeast at 10
to 15 kt, but winds may be erratic at times due to tstms. Seas
around 2 ft.

Saturday-Saturday night... Winds and seas will increase, especially
for the Atlantic coastal waters of northern and central New Jersey.
A Small Craft Advisory has been issued for the waters off Monmouth
and Ocean County, where northeast winds will likely gust near to
above 25 kt for much of the day and into the night. Seas will also
gradually build to 4 to 6 ft especially by evening and through the
night. Elsewhere, wind gusts should remain mostly 20 kt or less with
seas remaining 2 to 4 ft.

Outlook...

Sunday through Wednesday...Once seas subside below 5 ft either
late Saturday night or Sunday morning, winds and seas should
stay below SCA criteria for the remainder of the period.
Several wind shifts likely. Showers and thunderstorms likely
at times.

Rip Currents...

There is a LOW risk of rip currents today. Onshore flow is
expected to occur on Saturday, which may increase the risk of
dangerous rip currents somewhat. For now, have maintained a low
risk for Saturday, but subsequent forecasts may require raising
the threat level, especially if onshore flow is stronger than
currently forecast.
