As surface low pretty moves over KPCD, the heaviest of the rain
and thunderstorm activity has shifted north to the Interstate 64
corridor, with only isolated showers and drizzle further south.
Given the lack of flooding reports and meager rainfall rates, felt
comfortable canceling the Flash Flood Watch early. There remains
a few pockets of elevated instability north of the surface warm
front in southern Illinois, northwest Kentucky, and southwest
Indiana. Expecting isolated thunder in this area through 12z or
so, but the severe threat is over.

There will be a relative lull in the precipitation and a few
breaks in the clouds around daybreak, but as a the H5 low moves
across the area, scattered showers will break out across the CWA.
The highest PoPs will be along the I-64 corridor, in the likely to
categorical range. PoPs decrease further south, into the chance
range. We're not quite done with the meteorological mischief,
however. With the cold midlevel core overhead, we cannot
completely rule out a few rumbles of thunder or perhaps even some
small hail. Additionally, these kinds of setups can be favorable
for cold air funnel clouds. Gradient winds will ramp up from the
north-northwest late this morning through the afternoon as the
surface low exits the region. Anywhere in the CWA could see gusts
of 20-25 kts, but again the Interstate 64 corridor looks have the
best potential of gusts of 30+ kts. Temperatures today will be
steady or fall slowly as the cold front clears the area, falling
into the upper 40s to lower 50s by 22z. All-in-all, not the
greatest day to be outdoors.

Tonight, precipitation will come to an end from northwest to
southeast. Winds will relax a bit late tonight and skies will clear,
allowing temperatures to fall in the lower to middle 30s. Friday
will be sunny, but also cool and blustery. High temperatures will be
a bit below normal in the lower to middle 50s, with northeast winds
gusting up to 15-20 kts.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Wednesday)
Issued at 321 AM CDT Thu Mar 18 2021

Surface high pressure will be centered over the northeast U.S. this
weekend as an upper level ridge builds east into the Mississippi and
lower Ohio River Valleys.  This will keep the PAH forecast area dry
Saturday through Monday, with plenty of sunshine expected over the
weekend. Temperatures will be near seasonal Saturday and Saturday
night with easterly winds, then winds will become southerly by
Sunday, resulting in gradually warming temperatures Sunday and into
the early part of the work week.

Later Monday night into Tuesday, models seem to agree that a mid-
level short wave will eject northeast into the mid/upper MS River
Valley, bringing surface front with it. Expect at least some
scattered shower activity to move into the region from west to east
later Monday and Tuesday as the frontal system approaches and moves
through. At this time, instability looks little to nil ahead of the
surface front. Thus, chose to leave mention of thunder out of the
forecast for now.

Winds aloft will likely remain swly following the system Wednesday.
Though we will continue with some low chc pops in this moist flow
regime, believe many places will stay on the dry side much of the
time Wednesday into Wednesday night. Temperatures will remain above
normal right into mid week.

Issued at 605 AM CDT Thu Mar 18 2021

Surface low pressure will work across the region through the TAF
period, and isolated showers will increase in coverage going
through the morning into the afternoon. Highest coverage will be
late this afternoon around KMVN and KEVV where confidence was high
enough to include period of -RA. Elsewhere, have included VCSH.
Cannot rule out a lightning strike or two, but confidence was not
high enough to include in any terminal. Cigs will range from low
MVFR to IFR, though cigs will start VFR for a few hours KOWB
before the low stratus fills back in.

Winds will increase behind the departing surface low, especially
this afternoon and evening. N-NW gusts of 25-30 kts are expected
at all terminals, beginning this morning at KCGI and KPAH and
arriving this afternoon at KMVN, KEVV, and KOWB. Winds may relax a
bit very late in the TAF period, but still expecting plenty of
gustiness.
