EST WEDNESDAY...
* WHAT...Up to one foot of inundation above ground level
expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.
* WHERE...Northeastern Suffolk and Southeastern Suffolk Counties.
* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 6 AM EST Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding is expected in the more vulnerable
locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Some roads and
low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and
homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will
experience minor flooding.
* SHORELINE IMPACTS...Large breaking waves of 5 to 10 ft through
tonight high tidal cycles will result in significant
beach erosion and flooding, with areas of dune erosion likely
for the ocean shorelines. Localized washovers are possible
resulting in some flooding of roadways and vulnerable
structures behind protective dunes.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be
closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of

* WHAT...One to two feet of inundation above ground level
expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.
* WHERE...Southern Nassau County.
* WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 3 AM EST Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas is
expected near the waterfront and shoreline, including roads,
parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with
basements near the waterfront. Numerous road closures are
likely, and vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the
waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding will also
extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays.
* SHORELINE IMPACTS...Large breaking waves of 5 to 10 ft through
tonight high tidal cycles will result in significant
beach erosion and flooding, with areas of dune erosion likely.
Localized washovers are possible resulting in some flooding of
roadways and vulnerable structures behind protective dunes.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If

expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.
* WHERE...Southern Nassau County.
* WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 3 AM EST Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas is expected
near the waterfront and shoreline, including roads, parking
lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements
near the waterfront. Numerous road closures are likely, and
vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will
likely become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from
the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays.
* SHORELINE IMPACTS...Large breaking waves of 5 to 10 ft through
tonight high tidal cycles will result in significant beach
erosion and flooding, with areas of dune erosion likely.
Localized washovers are possible resulting in some flooding of

.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure along the northeast coast this evening slowly
tracks north tonight through Wednesday night. High pressure
ridge moves across Thursday into early Friday. A warm front
moves across Friday, followed by a cold front Friday night. Weak
high pressure moves in for Saturday and offshore on Sunday.
Potentially strong low pressure will be passing by offshore in
the Atlantic Sunday into early Monday with possible impacts to
the region. High pressure returns thereafter for early next
week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING/...
A closed upper low along the northeast coast moves little
tonight as the surface low drifts slowly northward, especially
later tonight. Areas of light precipitation continue to rotate
around the low. A warmer low level layer wrapped around the low
at 900 to 700 mb across the eastern section will allow for light
rain. And as this warm layer moves east through 06Z the
precipitation will transition to light snow showers. Farther to
the west in the colder air the precipitation was mainly light
snow showers, however, with some pockets of warm air there was
light rain showers or rain and snow showers. With the cloud
cover persisting and little airmass change overnight
temperatures will fall only a few degrees. By Wednesday morning
the precipitation is expected to end.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
The upper low slowly opens and tracks slowly northward Wednesday
and Wednesday night as the surface low moves into the Canadian
Maritimes. With weak subsidence and slowly rising height
Wednesday and Wednesday night are expected to remain dry.
Temperatures Wednesday will be similar to Tuesday's, maybe a few
degrees higher, as the airmass in place slowly modifies.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A high pressure ridge builds in from the west Thursday into
Thursday night. The high gives way to an approaching frontal
system on Friday. Its associated warm front will be approaching
Friday morning. Atmospheric column starts to moisten aloft with
warm air advection in the 950mb to 850mb layer Thursday night
into Friday morning. If precipitation occurs early enough,
surface temperatures will be cold enough for some freezing rain
with the warm layer plus with not as much moisture in the -10 to
-30 degree C layer aloft, showing less ice nuclei. Otherwise,
interior will have highest chances of wintry precipitation while
the coast will have mainly rain as higher chances of
precipitation occurs late morning into the afternoon. There will
be some rain and snow chances with the cold front Friday night
as well.
Dry conditions resume Saturday through Saturday night with weak
high pressure moving in. There will be a chance of snow Sunday
through Sunday night with low pressure passing offshore. More on
this below as there are a wide range of model solutions with
this low pressure system and associated precipitation. Dry
conditions return early next week with high pressure returning.
Precipitation chances early Friday into Friday night as well as
Sunday through Sunday night. Both could present more winter
precipitation. Friday into Friday will potentially start as a
wintry mix which will transition to rain and snow mix for the
interior while the coast transitions to plain rain. Sunday into
Sunday night could present another chance of snow with perhaps
some rain mixing in along the coast. The late weekend
precipitation carries much uncertainty with a wide variance of
surface low positions Sunday afternoon through Sunday night with
the ECMWF operational run from 12Z showing the most aggressive
solution with more snow and a stronger offshore low with higher
gusty winds. Meanwhile, GFS and Canadian models as well as
multiple ECMWF ensemble members show a weaker low that is
farther offshore.
Temperatures overall get colder during this long term period,
with highs in the upper 30s to near 40 Thursday, upper 30s to
mid 40s Friday and then more in the 30s for the weekend and just
in the 20s for early next week for most places.

.AVIATION /21Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Low pressure lingers southeast of Long Island through tonight
and early tomorrow.
IFR to MVFR conds in occasional light snow or rain today. Some
sleet or freezing rain/freezing drizzle may also mix in prior to
the change over to snow in some locations around the NYC metro.
Winds N 15-20kt with gusts around 25 kt.
Any further runway accumulations should be minor for the most part.

Expect more frequent AMD than usual as precip types and intensity
may fluctuate through the afternoon and evening.

daytime.
.Thursday...VFR.
.Friday...Rain/snow with possible MVFR/IFR cond. SW-W winds G15-20kt

G15-20 kt, mainly KJFK and to the east, mainly daytime.

.MARINE...
Wind gusts have diminished below gale force across the eastern
ocean waters as the coastal low tracks offshore of the coast.
Gusts at SCA levels remain across the non ocean waters this this
evening, and more occasional across New York Harbor. A SCA is
now in effect for the Long Island Sound, and the Long Island
bays through this evening. And a SCA has been posted for the
ocean waters through Wednesday night. Once gusts diminish below
SCA levels on the ocean during Wednesday, seas will remain
elevated.
SCA level wind gusts are forecast on the ocean Thursday, Friday
through Saturday night and possibly Sunday through Sunday night
as well depending on how the low pressure offshore trends.
Ocean seas are forecast to be below SCA thresholds Thursday
through Thursday night and in the SCA range of at least 5 ft
Friday through potentially the whole weekend.

.HYDROLOGY...
No hydrologic impacts are anticipated through Thursday.
Rain with the low pressure system Friday into Friday evening is
forecast to produce around a half inch of liquid equivalent.
Too much uncertainty to determine precipitation amounts with
late weekend low pressure system. No hydrologic issues are
expected.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
At least two more cycles will be monitored closely as the storm
gradually weakens. The highest likelihood of coastal flooding
will be for the Nassau and Queens back bays. Lingering coastal
flooding minor to moderate across Southwest Suffolk and into
extreme Southeastern Nassau with otherwise minor across the rest
of Southern Nassau. Coastal flood warning still in effect for
Southern Nassau and Southwest Suffolk until late this afternoon,
Southern Nassau until 4PM, and Southwest Suffolk until 5PM.
All other coastal flooding is minor. Eastern Suffolk has
coastal flood statements until 3PM. Northern Nassau and coastal
CT from New Haven through New London have coastal flood
statements until 4PM. Southern Westchester NY and Southern
Fairfield CT have coastal flood advisories until 5PM.
Minor flooding with potentially up to one foot of inundation is
likely for So. Fairfield, and also the potential exists for
minor flooding into Peconic Bay in the vicinity of Riverhead.
