.SYNOPSIS...Building high pressure will result in a minor warming
today through Monday. Night and morning coastal clouds will become
more common. It will also be less windy than previous days.

.DISCUSSION...as of 08:45 AM PDT Saturday...Morning temperatures
in the past hour are in the low 50s to low 60s for much of our
region. Some higher terrain areas are in the upper 40s. Visible
satellite imagery shows that there is some patchy stratus around
Bodega Bay and south along the Marin County coastline. The
northern part of the SF Peninsula, including the Metro area, is
clear. However, marine stratus is solid along coastal areas from
Half Moon Bay all the way into SoCal at Pt Arguello. Those cloudy
coastal areas should scatter out by late morning today before they
return again this evening.
No change to the morning forecast package as we cruise into the
60s and 70s for daytime highs with lighter winds today.

.PREV DISCUSSION...As of 3:27 AM PDT Saturday...The upper low
that brought windy conditions and afternoon/evening showers
continues to slowly meander eastward and will not fully exit the
area until late Sunday. In its wake, an upstream ridge of high
pressure is building in from the west. The slow transition from
low pressure to high pressure will result in a gradual warming
trend through at least Monday. Satellite fog product has revealed
the decreasing winds and building 500mb height helped to slowly
re-establish the marine layer overnight. Low clouds blanket the
entire coast south of the Golden Gate. Low clouds are beginning to
move up the Salinas Valley. Given the decreased winds and some
clear skies temperatures this morning are still pretty chilly. In
fact, a few interior protected valleys are already in the mid 30s.
Therefore, some patchy frost will once again be possible.
Despite the gradual warming trend temperatures for Saturday and
Sunday are still below normal for mid May. Highs will generally
be 60s and 70s. Another 5-10 degrees of warming is expected by
Monday as temperatures return close to seasonal average with 80s
across the interior.
Temperatures dip on Tuesday as an upper level trough passes to the
north. The cool down will persist through the week with zonal
flow.

Satellite imagery shows low clouds remain around the Monterey Bay
region with VFR conditions elsewhere. VFR prevailing into this
evening before low clouds are expected to develop along the coast
and move inland into the SF Bay and Monterey Bay Areas tonight.
MVFR/IFR cigs then forecast through mid to late tomorrow morning.
The trend of gradually diminishing winds will continue today
though locally breezy onshore winds still possible along the coast
this afternoon.
Vicinity of KSFO...VFR through the day. Low clouds may move into
the SF Bay Area tonight with MVFR/IFR cigs possible into early/mid
tomorrow morning. W/NW winds this afternoon around 15 kt with
gusts of 20 to 25 kt possible into the evening.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...Satellite shows low clouds dissipating
this morning with MVFR cigs possible over the next couple of
hours. VFR conditions then expected this afternoon before low
clouds return in the early evening. MVFR/IFR cigs overnight and
through tomorrow morning. Onshore winds this afternoon around
10-15 kt.

.MARINE...as of 08:30 AM PDT Saturday...Northwest winds will
diminish today, though locally breezy conditions are expected this
afternoon into this evening. The strongest winds are forecast over
the northern and outer waters, particularly offshore of Point
Reyes. Lighter winds across the southern coastal waters. Locally
steep fresh seas from these winds again over the northern and
outer waters today. Mixed seas will prevail otherwise with a
