.SYNOPSIS...The potential for isolated to scattered showers and/or
thunderstorms over the North Bay and far interior portions of
Monterey and San Benito counties will continue through Friday
afternoon/evening. Subtle warming is then forecast into the upcoming
weekend and into the start of next week along with less windy
conditions.

.DISCUSSION...as of 01:06 PM PDT Friday...Temperatures this
afternoon have warmed into the upper 60s to lower 70s across the
interior while 50s persist near the coast. Wind speeds, while
breezy, are not as strong as the past two days as the pressure
gradient continues to relax. Meanwhile, the cord of a broad
mid/upper level low remains over interior California and Nevada
with precipitation occuring over the Sierra. On the western
periphery of this system, enough moisture and instability exists
with cumulus building over the North Bay and far interior portions
of the Bay Area/Central Coast. With this, similar to yesterday,
there is the potential for some convection to develop over the
aforementioned areas. Will continue to carry a 15-20% chance of
showers and/or thunderstorms over the northern portions of the
North Bay and far interior Monterey and San Benito counties this
afternoon. Any convection that does develop will have the
potential to produce gusty winds, brief heavy rain, small hail,
and gusty outflows. For additional details, please see the
forecast discussion below.
Gradual warming is then forecast through the upcoming weekend as the
mid/upper level low slowly exits to the east and high pressure
builds over the eastern Pacific. This will allow for onshore winds
to diminish and the air mass aloft and at the surface to warm. That
said, we may see a return of our seasonal marine layer with low
clouds returning near the coast while interior areas experience
mostly clear/sunny conditions. The ridge is forecast to build
through Monday which will likely be the warmest day when widespread
70s return to areas away from the immediate coast and low/mid 80s
return across the interior. Temperatures look to moderate slightly
by the middle of next week as the ridge flattens in response to an
upper level trough moving into the Pacific Northwest.

low clouds /MVFR-IFR/ on the coastline tonight and Saturday
morning. Inland VFR. Late day convection well inland diminishing
tonight with the loss of surface warming.
Vicinity of KSFO...VFR. Gusty onshore winds at around 30 knots
until 04z this evening. Patchy SCT low clouds possible overnight
though confidence is currently low.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...MVFR. Low confidence IFR ceilings late
tonight. Gusty onshore winds to mid to late evening, light and
variable winds late tonight and Saturday morning. Onshore winds
redeveloping Saturday afternoon and evening.

.MARINE...as of 6:49 PM PDT Friday...Moderate to locally gusty
northwest winds will continue across the coastal waters with gale
force gusts over the northern outer waters into tonight. Winds are
forecast to diminish late tonight and into the weekend but will
remain breezy north of Point Reyes. These strong winds will
generate very steep fresh seas near 10 to 14 feet at 8 to 10
seconds that are hazardous, especially for smaller vessels. Mixed
seas will persist otherwise with a northwest and longer period
southerly swell.
