.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)
Issued at 408 AM EDT THU AUG 26 2021

Temperatures across Upper Michigan this morning are in the 50s
across the interior, with some isolated upper 40s and along the
Great Lakes and Keweenaw remain in the low to mid 60s. There's some
patchy fog across the UP, more prevalent along the Seney stretch,
though most fog seems to be shallow and benign. Weak sfc ridging is
moving overhead from the NW this morning, with light winds allowing
decent radiational cooling. Expect locations to fall a couple more
degrees in the next couple hours.

Dry weather will prevail today, with sunny skies to start the day.
An MCS progged to move through the Dakotas and MN this morning/aftn
will cast some higher clouds aloft and into the wern CWA by mid aftn
today, which will begin to hinder diabatic heating. Light northerly
winds, aided by a lake breeze component as well, will hinder
temperatures along Lake Superior as well. Look for highs to be
mainly in the 70s, with upper 60s along Superior possible as well as
a few 80s south.

If you were looking for a soaker tonight, I don't have the best news
for you. Looking upstream, we have a similar setup as the other day,
with a warm front across central MN into the Dakotas and Wisconsin
and a, developing now, MCS progged to pass along it. This MCS is
progged in CAMs to travel along this warm front and instability
gradient, likely perturbing it like a couple days ago, hindering
moisture transport northward into the UP. Couple that with the high
pressure shifting overhead and bringing northeast winds and drier
air in across the central and east. This called for lowering PoPs
and slowing the advancement into the UP as well. While there is a
small chance some showers make it into the UP before midnight, seems
more likely that they remain to the south until around 6Z or so.
There is some marginal elevated MUCAPE in the model soundings, and
although thunderstorm chances aren't really impressive, I did leave
some slight chances in there after 3Z tonight...mainly along the WI
border.

.LONG TERM...(Thursday night through Wednesday)
Issued at 344 PM EDT WED AUG 25 2021

A somewhat active period is in the works for the long term, with a
warm front gradually lifting up through the region by late Friday,
followed by a cold front Sunday. This will give the region a mix of
temperatures and some opportunities for some rain.

Starting out Thursday night, guidance suggests a warm frontal
feature will be draped near southern/central Wisconsin. With the UP
north of the boundary through the night and an eastward progressing
shortwave, expecting pops to increase through the night. With right
entrance jet dynamics providing upper level divergence aloft and
WAA/isentropic forcing may allow for some shower activity to spread
over the area during the night and into Friday. There's a good bit of
uncertainty amount the 12z guidance suite, with some suggesting
the precip will stay south of the region Thursday night. Friday also
seems to be giving the guidance some trouble as well with how much
of a dinural kick will enable more shower activity. Given the
uncertainty, ended up dialing back pops to better match chance
potential. What is more certain appears to be the chance of rain
along the main warm frontal boundary Friday night. With the PWATS
closing in on 1.75 inches, some areas could see a healthy soaking.
Lows Thursday night look to be close to normal across the area, with
widespread low 50s in the interior and mid to upper 50s by the
lakeshores. Cloud cover and potential precip on Friday should limit
how warm it gets, and generally expecting temps to remain in the
60s.

Saturday appears to be mostly dry. With more WAA expected, temps
should warm back up into the upper 70s to low 80s under southerly
flow. Expect Saturday to uncomfortable too given dewpoints climbing
into the upper 60s to near 70F. Cold front moving west to east
through the region late Saturday night into Sunday will bring the
region another shot for rain showers. Following the frontal passage,
high pressure will gradually build eastward out of the US and CA
Plains early next week. With the high progged to pass through on
Tuesday, a dry early to mid next week looks possible.

While VFR conditions are expected to continue at all sites
through the forecast period, there will be some shallow fog
through the rest of the overnight period at IWD & SAW. Diurnal cu
will develop again this afternoon near KSAW, but should remain
SCT.

As a high pressure system moves over northwestern Ontario, the
pressure gradient will increase this afternoon, bringing north,
becoming northeast, winds to around 20 knots by this evening.
Stronger winds closer to 25 knots will be possible across the west
half. A warm front is then going to lift northward towards the lake
late tonight, bringing winds around to the east and then southeast
by Friday and Friday night. These winds will increase, with gusts up
to 30 knots possible. As the high pressure moves away on Saturday,
the gradient will relax and the winds will follow, falling blo 20
knots by Saturday morning. Winds will remain relatively calm through
the weekend, with a few gusts to 25 knots from the SW on Sunday
night across the west and north-central.
