pressure system will affect the region late Thursday into the
weekend.

As of 930 AM Wed...Deck of strato-cu beginning to dive down the
coast of the Northern Outer Banks and expect overcast
conditions to spread across much of this area through the day.
Elsewhere, clear skies prevail and should remain so for much of
the day until cirrus begins to filter in from the west late.
Adjusted sky grids based on satellite trends, otherwise forecast
in good shape.

Prev disc...Today will be the quietest day of the week. The
upper low and attendant Nor'easter off the New England coast
continues to linger early this morning, but is expected to lift
into the open Atlantic later today with a mid- level ridge
building over the Carolinas. Skies expected to remain mainly
clear today, but moisture wrapping around the Nor'easter will
bring overcast conditions over the northern Outer Banks and
Albemarle Sound. Cannot completely rule out bay- effect rain

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM THURSDAY/...
As of 345 AM Wed...High clouds begin to spill over the Carolinas
late Wednesday into the overnight areas as next closed upper low
and associated surface cyclone traverse the southern plains and
Gulf Coast. Lows moderate slightly but still expect temperatures
to dip into the upper 40s inland, 50s along the coast. Much
calmer winds and increased moisture from the upper low suggest a
threat of low stratus and/or fog early Thursday morning.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 315 AM Wed...Active weather pattern through the first
part of the period with troughing generally persisting over the
eastern US and large complex low pressure system impacting the
area Thu through Sat. High pressure will build over the area
Sunday into early next week. A cold front will approach the area
mid next week.

Thursday through Saturday...Upper ridge axis slides east of the
area Thursday and deep moisture advection begins. Stacked low
pressure over the Tennessee Valley will slowly work eastward,
but destabilization will be slow, with the first part of
Thursday remaining mostly dry with precip chances increasing
through the afternoon. 00z guidance is trending a bit slower,
and lowered pops a bit Thu. A warm front is expected to lift
through the area Thursday night and Friday morning, signaling
the return of appreciable rain chances. Main concern is the
potential for strong to severe thunderstorms and moderate to
locally heavy rain Thu night and Fri morning. Still not looking
at much instability, but should be enough shear and low level
helicity in place for strong to severe storms with damaging wind
gusts and tornado threat. SPC currently has the the southern
portions of the area outlooked in a Slight risk for severe wx
and a Marginal risk for areas further NE. Still some uncertainty
with regards to timing, with the NAM being the slowest, but
right now looks like the best chances 10 PM Thu night into Fri
morning. Temps near normal during the day, with an increasingly
warm and humid airmass filling in Thursday night. Non-diurnal
temp curve expected Thu night as WAA strengthens, with dewpoints
surging into the 60s with increasing SE flow.

Stacked low pressure lifts across the southern Appalachians
toward the Mid-Atlantic Friday into the weekend. Precip expected
to become more scattered Friday afternoon into Sat, and will
keep low chance pops due to the close proximity of the strong
dynamic forcing associated with the stacked low.

Sunday through Wednesday...Low pressure will continues to lift
through the NE US as trough axis shifts off the east coast.
Upper flow becomes more zonal Sunday as sfc high pressure builds
in from the WNW. Upper ridge begins to build across the SE Mon
as next frontal system approaches from the west. Near normal
temps expected with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s, and
overnight lows mid/upper 40s inland and 50s along the coast. A
cold front is progged to move through the area mid next week,
though still some timing differences this far out. GFS moves it
through Tuesday night and Wed morning, and EC Wed.

.AVIATION /18Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
SHORT TERM /through Wednesday/...
As of 1 PM Wed...Prevailing VFR conditions through the end of
the period for forecasted terminals. Periods of MVFR remain
possible along the OBX coastal region through tonight with low
strato-cu advecting south from a strong Nor'Easter off the coast
of New England. Otherwise, breezy NWrly winds will taper off
through the aftn and calm as they become more Nrly late. Not
much concern with fog/low stratus overnight given dry airmass
remaining in place through Thu morning, though some moments of
MVFR fog could occur close to sunrise. After daybreak, winds
turn SErly ahead of a complex low pressure system arriving Thu
night, increasing moisture advection across the region. Mid to
high clouds will increase through late morning and early aftn
through the end of the TAF period.

LONG TERM /Thursday through Sunday/...
As of 315 AM Wed...VFR expected to prevail Thursday, with
conditions deteriorating quickly Thursday night. Widespread
showers and isolated tstms expected Thursday night into Fri
morning, with periods of moderate to locally heavy rain. Sub-VFR
conditions likely Thu night into Fri morning, with cigs grad
improving Fri. Isolated to scattered showers Fri and Sat.

SHORT TERM /Through Wednesday/...
As of 725 AM Wed...All Gale Warnings have been dropped across
the waters. Conditions continue to improve this morning and with
current trends expect all soundside and southern SCA headlines
to drop out by around midday.

Prev disc...Winds and seas are slow to improve this morning as
Nor'easter swirling off the New England coast continues to pinch
the pressure gradient. Gale conditions have come to an end
across all but the far southern waters which will still see
gusts of 35-40 kt at times until around sunrise. Conditions
rapidly improve over the southern waters as upper ridge builds
over the area and surface low departs, and expect SCA conditions
to end by midday here in addition to inland waters. The
offshore waters north of Ocracoke will continue to see NNW winds
of 15-20 kt with gusts of 25+ kt and persistent 6-8 ft seas
through the period and well into the weekend...see the long term
section for details.

LONG TERM /Thursday through Sunday/...
As of 315 AM Wed...Complex low pressure system will impact the
waters Thursday through Saturday. A warm front will push through
the waters Thursday night and Friday morning with the occluding
cold front following quickly. NE-E winds 5-15 kt Thu, becoming
ESE 15-20 kt by Thu eve. Gale force SE winds will be possible
Thursday night into Friday. GFS/NAM/CMC show SE winds 20-30 kt
with gusts 35-40 kt. Winds continue to veer becoming more SSW
15-25 kt later Fri. Moderate SW 10-20 kt winds Fri night and
Sat. High pressure will grad build in from the west Sun, with
winds becoming W 10-15 gusting to 20 kt.

Seas will remain elevated north of Ocracoke through most of the
period. Thu seas 5-8 ft subsiding a bit, then building again Thu
night and Fri peaking at 7-10 ft. South of Ocracoke seas 2-4 ft
Thu, building to 6-9 ft Thu night and Fri. Seas 4-6 ft Sat
night grad subsiding to 3-5 ft Sun as winds diminish and become
more offshore.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 315 AM Wed...Strong WNW winds continue early this morning
and will continue to see elevated water levels (up to 1 ft
above normal) across the sound-side OBX. Winds will slowly
diminish through the day.

In addition, wave run up due to deepening offshore low pressure
combined with gusty NNW winds will bring the potential for
rough surf and minor beach erosion through late week north of
Cape Hatteras. Larger swells arrive Thursday night into Friday,
which is expected to be combined with strong onshore flow,
providing a greater threat for high surf conditions.
