Weak low pressure along the coast will move northeast away from
the area tonight. High pressure will briefly build in from the
north Wednesday. A strong area of low pressure will impact the
region Thursday and Friday. High pressure will build south over
the area this weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
As of 1030 PM Tue...Back edge of the rain now west of Goldsboro
and will clear the area from northwest to southeast overnight.
Despite the trend downward in rain, widespread low clouds and
some fog overnight will remain locked in with a strong inversion
and plenty of moisture trapped under it. Temps will not drop
much with mid 40s inland and mid 40s to around 50 beaches.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY/...
As of 230 PM Tue...High pres will briefly build in from the N
with no precip expected. Tricky part of fcst is determining how
fast the low lvl clouds lift which could greatly impact high
temps. For now think low clouds will cont thru the morn then
sct out/lift a bit in the aftn with some partial sunshine
expected. With any sun temps shld warm into the 60s most areas
with NE cst likely holding in the 50s.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 230 PM Tue...Update...increased temps well into the 70s
away from the coast Thu with limited convection most of the day.
Also lowered pops along the coast this weekend as mdls cont to
show precip if any staying mainly offshore.
Prev disc...A period of unsettled weather is expected Thu into
Fri as a large and complex storm system crosses the region.
Model trends now support a drier forecast from this weekend into
early next week as high pressure is expected to build south
over the area.
Wednesday night and Thursday...Wed night, the stalled front to
the south will begin to lift north as a warm front. This will
produce scattered shower activity, mainly after midnight and
over northern and western portions of the area. The front is
forecast to lift north into VA and stall Thu while low pressure
develops along it. Eastern NC will be in a deep southerly flow
of warm air with highs in the 70s expected. Diurnal heating
should lead to the development of a few showers, though most of
the day now looking dry. A band of more organized showers and
thunderstorms could form over the coastal plain late in the day
ahead of the front, then progress east across the remainder of
the area Thu evening.
Trends in the models are for drier conditions for most of Thu,
thus have lowered PoPs from categorical to likely. Given the
warm/unstable airmass with sufficient shear Thu-Thu evening,
there continues to be severe thunderstorm potential associated
with the initial cold front which will cross the areas Thu
evening.
Friday...A secondary cold front is forecast to sweep south
across Eastern NC Fri afternoon into early evening producing
scattered to numerous showers. Highs will be in the 60s.
Saturday through Monday...The trend in the latest models is for
surface high pressure building in from the north to dominate the
weather over the weekend into early next week. This will
suppress developing low pressure to the south and it now looks
mostly dry this period. Will hang on to low chance PoPs for
another couple of model cycles to confirm that this trend
continues, with a lowering and/or dropping of rain chances
quite possible in subsequent forecasts. Temps will be cool with
highs in the 50s Sat and Sunday. Temps may not even reach 50 Sat
along the coast! Some moderation of high temps back into the
low 60s is expected Mon.

.AVIATION /06Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Short Term /through 06Z Thursday/...
As of 150 AM Wed...Mix of IFR and LIFR prevail over the
terminals and will continue into the morning hours. On top of
low stratus, periods of fog appear possible north of EWN from
08z under shortly after daybreak. Fog should avoid OAJ but light
precip over the next couple hours could restrict visibilities.
Biggest sticking point in the forecast is how quickly flight
conditions improve. A more pessimistic approach is the preferred
option when it comes to mixing out shallow cool moist layers,
and leaned the forecast in this direction in favor of the
HRRR/RAP. MVFR and possibly a brief period of VFR is forecast
during the afternoon. Improved cigs will not last long as low
stratus builds back in after sunset Wednesday. Uncertainty in
the cig forecast is high after 15z.
Long Term /Wednesday night through Saturday/...
As of 315 AM Tue...Another round of sub-VFR conditions are
possible Wednesday night through Friday as a complex area of low
pressure affects the area. VFR conditions are expected over the
weekend as high pressure builds back over the area.

As of 730 PM Tuesday...Our period of briefly gusty winds over
the Pamlico Sound have subsided as an area of low pressure moves
away from the waters. Winds have already diminished and will
shift to the W and N overnight and diminish to 10 to 15 kts.
Seas of 4 to 6 ft now will subside to 3 to 5 ft late tonight.
SCA will end sounds and nrn wtrs later this evening and
elsewhere overnight. On Wed with high pres nosing in from the N
expect pred N winds 10 to 15 kts poss a few gusts approaching 20
kts thru mid day N of Lookout. Seas will cont to subside to 2
to 4 ft by Wed aftn.
Long Term /Wednesday night through Saturday/...
As of 230 PM Tue...UPDATE...Bulk of mdls show stronger N winds
later Fri into Sat with good bet much of the coast will see
period of Gales...increased winds a bit this period.
Prev disc... Hazardous boating Conditions are forecast to
develop Thu and persist into the weekend. Winds remain northerly
10-15 kts on Wednesday. Winds will then become southerly and
increase to 15-25 kt Thursday ahead of the next storm system.
Seas are expected to subside to 2-4 ft Wednesday, increasing
again on Thursday to 5-7 ft. Winds become northerly 20-30 kt in
strong CAA Fri and Sat behind the departing low with seas
building 7-10 ft.
