High pressure will slide offshore tonight. Strong low pressure
will pass to the north later Thursday and Thursday night pushing
a cold front through Friday. High pressure will build south
over the area this weekend into early next week while low
pressure slowly churns off of the southeast coast.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 245 PM Wed...Eastern NC will remain under the influence
of an upper ridge for most of tonight although heights begin to
fall late as powerful closed low marches across the lower MS
Valley overnight. Low clouds are still trying to lift/sct out
and even if they do into this evening will fill back in
overnight. Will also see some fog develop again tonight with low
lvls saturated. As low lvl flow goes SE on backside of high
pres some weak isent lift develops late and cont small pop.
Temps will drop just a bit into the upr 40s/low 50s this evening

As of 245 PM Wed...A regional severe weather outbreak with
strong damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes is expected Thu
into Thu evening across a large portion of the southeast US
including Eastern NC.

A highly sheared, moist, and increasingly unstable airmass
ahead of a cold front will support the threat for severe
thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail,
and tornadoes Thu afternoon and evening. The SPC conts with a
Moderate threat Thu/Thu evening for much of the area, with the
northeast counties remaining in an Enhanced threat. Not
expecting much precipitation through mid afternoon, thus heating
should help maximize instability before the convection develops
toward late afternoon. Conditions will be very conducive for

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 320 AM Wed...A strong cold front will cross Eastern NC
Fri resulting in temps much below normal this weekend. Low
pressure is forecast to move slowly off the southeast coast this
weekend into early next week keeping a threat for a few coastal
showers. The models continue to struggle with how close to the
coast and thus how much associated moisture will impact Eastern
NC, therefore will need to keep chance PoPs along the coast.

Friday...A secondary cold front is forecast to sweep south
across Eastern NC Fri afternoon producing scattered to numerous
showers especially across the northern counties. It will become
very windy along the coast, and a Wind Advisory may be needed
for the Outer Banks. The strong northerly winds could produce
minor soundside flooding across the southern Outer Banks and
areas adjacent to the Pamlico and Neuse Rivers. In addition some
coastal flooding from wave runup produced by high surf along
the coast at times of high tide will be possible along the
northeast facing beaches of the northern Outer Banks over the
weekend. Highs will be in the 60s.

Saturday through Tuesday...The models continue to struggle with
how much impact a slowly moving low off the southeast coast
will have on Eastern NC over the weekend into early next week.
High pressure building south will keep most of the region dry
through the weekend, with a small rain threat expected along the
coast through the weekend. Early next week the low may meander
close enough to the coast to push the rain threat further inland
with a more substantial chance of rain along the coast. Temps
will be low normal Sat and Sunday with highs mostly in the 50s
and lows in the mid to upper 30s inland. Some moderation in
temps with highs in the 60s is expected for early next week.

.AVIATION /19Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Short Term /through 18Z Thursday/...
As of 145 PM Wed...Coastal terminals will continue to to
experience IFR through the remainder of the day while PGV/ISO
have a brief window where CIGs will lift out to MVFR this
evening before dropping back down an hour or two before midnight
local. Light Nerly winds continue before they calm overnight.
Widespread fog/stratus is expected again tonight and into
tomorrow morning. Light SEerly winds tomorrow morning veer to
become Serly around 10 kts by late morning with gusts of 15 to
20 kts. Fog dissipates with onset of wind development after
sunrise and CIGS lift above IFR mid morning.

Long Term /Thursday through Sunday/...
As of 320 AM Wed...Another round of sub-VFR conditions are
possible Thursday through Friday as a complex area of low
pressure affects the area. VFR conditions are expected over the
weekend as high pressure builds back over inland Eastern NC.

Short Term /through Thu night/...
As of 245 PM Wed...Dangerous marine conditions will develop Thu
and cont into early next week. High pres just inland from the
coast will slide offshore tonight. N winds 10 to 15 kts late
today will become light thru the evening then SE at 5 to 15 kts
late tonight.  Seas of 3 to 5 ft this aftn will drop to 2 to 4
feet tonight. S to SW winds ramp up Thu ahead of approaching
low pres and cold front. Speeds will reach 15 to 25 kts in the
aftn with some guts to 30 kts central and srn wtrs. Seas will
build reaching 3 to 5 ft N and 5 to 7 ft S later in the aftn.
SSW winds will remain strong Thu night and 20 to 30 kt highest
central and S as low pres passes to the N with a cold front
approaching. Seas will reach 7 to 10 ft...highest outer
central/srn wtrs.

Long Term /Fri through Monday/...
As of 320 AM Wed...Dangerous marine conditions will persist
through this period. The main cold front will cross the waters
Fri with the flow shifting to the N and increasing to 35 kt in
the strong post frontal cold advection, which will continue into
Sat. Winds will only decrease slowly Sun and Mon with speeds
20-30 kt with seas 8 to 12 ft as low pres lingers to the SE with
strong high pres to the N. A Gale Watch has been issued for all
wtrs except Pamlico River Fri into the weekend.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 245 PM Wed...Strong northerly winds are forecast to
develop behind the cold front Friday and continue into the
weekend. The strong winds will produce high water levels in
areas adjacent to the Pamlico Sound south of Hatteras including
eastern Carteret and southern Craven counties from late Friday
into the weekend. This will result in minor to moderate coastal
flooding with water levels 1 to 3 feet above ground level
beginning late Friday afternoon and continuing into at least
Saturday.

In addition, possible coastal flooding, ocean overwash, and beach
erosion aided by wave runup will occur at times of high tide along
the northeast facing beaches of the Outer Banks north of Cape
Hatteras over the weekend.
