.SYNOPSIS...27/258 AM.
High pressure aloft will persist through at least the weekend
bringing continued warmer than normal temperatures across inland
areas away from the coast. Night through morning low clouds with
patchy dense fog will continue across coastal areas and Santa Ynez
Valley mainly north of Point Conception. There is a chance for
more widespread low clouds late this weekend into next week.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-SUN)...27/246 AM.
Latest GOES-W Fog Product Imagery indicated stratus across the
Central Coast as well as the Santa Ynez Valley early this morning.
Otherwise low clouds were remaining off the coast to the south.
Some of the stratus was pushing into the Channel islands and there
is an outside chance it could reach the immediate coast of Ventura
and eastern portion of the Santa Barbara South Coast near the
Ventura County border around sunrise, but not in the forecast.
With high pressure still locked in aloft, the marine layer was
still pretty shallow around 600 ft. Therefore expect patchy dense
fog a quarter mile or less for portions of the Central Coast and
Santa Ynez Valley. Some low clouds were pushing south across the
Salinas River Valley, but dont think it will make it into SLO
County this morning.
The Wind Advisory that was in effect for the Santa Barbara South
Coast and adjacent mountains has been cancelled. There will
continue to be some localized gusty northerly winds around Gaviota
with gusts around 35 mph, but will continue to diminish over the
next few hours. Otherwise winds were generally weak across the
forecast area.
Synoptically through the weekend, A weak upper level trough that
was sagging across the very northern part of California and into
the Great Basin, will be short lived as high pressure aloft
across the Eastern pacific will stretch across California and
through the SW states through Sunday leaving the troughy pattern
well to the north into OR/WA. At the lower levels, Onshore
gradients will remain fairly week today and Saturday with some
strengthening on Sunday. Night through morning low clouds should
behave in similar fashion as the previous few days, mainly
affecting coastal areas N of Point Conception and Santa Ynez
Valley, but low clouds could flirt with L.A. County coastal areas
late tonight and Saturday night with better coastal coverage
Sunday night into Monday and possibly into the San Gabriel Valley
as well.
As far as temperatures, high res models were showing some weak
offshore flow across the interior locations this morning, similar
to yesterday, which helped high temps across the western San
Fernando Valley soar to 107 degrees at Woodland Hills. No reason
why this should not occur once again today. Highs across the San
Gabriel, Santa Clarita and eastern San Fernando Valleys will be in
the upper 90s to around 101, but the western portion of the San
Fernando Valley should reach around 106 today. Also, interior SLO
County, especially across the Salinas River Valley will reach
around 105 degrees today, with the Cuyama Valley ranging in the
90s to around 100. Some of the lower mountain elevations should
reach the lower 100s as well including Acton and Ozena. Have
decided to issue a Heat Advisory for both the San Fernando and San
Luis Obispo Valleys as well as the mountains of Los Angeles,
Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties excluding the Santa Monica
Range in effect from 10 AM to 8 PM this evening. Although High
temps are expected to reach 104 degrees, this is not reaching
"excessive heat warning" thresholds, and we do not issue "heat
advisories" for the Antelope Valley. Inland coastal areas will be
range from the 80s to around 90 towards Downtown L.A. High temps
should be a tad cooler on Saturday for most coast and valleys,
with little change across the Antelope Valley. For Sunday, there
will be a degree or two of cooling across coast and valleys, while
the Antelope Valley warms up a degree or two to around 106.
Latest NAM/GFS were hinting at some mid level monsoonal flow
starting to push into SE California on Sunday and some high clouds
could affect L.A. County in the afternoon and possibly a few cu
buildups across the Eastern San Gabriels with no precip expected.
.LONG TERM (MON-THU)...26/142 PM.
A series of upper-level lows moving across the Pacific Northwest
will bring lowering heights, cyclonic flow, and increasing
onshore flow to the area Monday through Thursday. One of the main
effects of this will be a deepening of the marine layer and
increasing presence of low clouds. There will likely be night
through morning low clouds across all the coastal areas and
possibly into the lower coastal valleys by mid-week. Another
effect of this pattern will be cooling temperatures. Max
temperatures will drop 2-5 degrees on Monday and Tuesday, then
level off by Wednesday and Thursday. This cool down will bring
temperatures back below normal across the board, with highs
struggling to reach the 90s in the warmest valleys.
Models are hinting at the potential for another round of monsoonal
moisture early- to mid-week. However, the bulk of the moisture
and the best steering flow will remain east of our region. The
forecast will be kept dry, but there is a non-zero chance of
monsoonal storms over the far eastern LA mountains.

At 05Z, the marine layer depth was around 600 feet deep at KLAX.
The top of the marine inversion was around 2500 feet with a
temperature near 30 degrees Celsius.
Low-to-moderate confidence in the current forecast for coastal
terminals. High confidence in the current forecast for valley and
desert terminals.
VFR conditions are very likely to persist at terminals away from
the coast. Predominantly LIFR conditions will spread into coastal
terminals north of Point Conception through 10Z, then persist
through at least 16Z. There is a moderate (30-40 percent) chance
of LIFR to IFR conditions for terminals south of Point Conception
between 10Z and 16Z. VFR conditions should develop at coastal
terminals between 16Z and 18Z.
KLAX...There is a 30 percent chance of LIFR to IFR conditions
between 10Z and 16Z. Otherwise, VFR conditions should be
prevalent. No wind impacts are expected at this time.
KBUR...VFR conditions are expected through the period. No wind
impacts are expected at this time.

Moderate to high confidence in the current forecast. Higher
confidence in the forecast between Saturday and Tuesday. Less
confidence in the forecast today and tonight.
Choppy short-period seas are very likely across the coastal
waters through the weekend and into Monday. Otherwise, Small
Craft Advisory (SCA) level northwest winds will very likely to
persist through at least this afternoon for the waters
outside 10 NM northwest through southwest of the Channel Islands
and along the Central Coast. There is a good chance of SCA level
winds extending through late tonight for the waters northwest of
Point Conception. Then, winds should fall below SCA levels through
at least Tuesday.
Areas of dense fog with visibility one nautical mile or less are
possible for the northern waters and the waters west of the
Channel Island this morning, and again tonight through Saturday
morning. With the shallow marine layer depth in place, patchy
dense fog could linger through the weekend, especially during the
night through morning hours.
