A mix of sub-VFR conditions will prevail at all terminals through
the TAF period as a stretch of active weather continues across the
area. Showers and light rain will linger today with reductions in
visibility likely beneath any heavier showers. Ceilings will also
vary from VFR to IFR. Heading into tonight and tomorrow, another
round of widespread rainfall will move into the area. This will
result in widespread reductions in both visibility and ceilings.
Winds will remain out of the north around 10-15kts with a few
gusts of 20-25kts possible, primarily through the afternoon hours.

.DISCUSSION...
A cold continues to push southeast through the area this morning
and was analyzed over the Hwy 98 corridor. The front should clear
the area by the early afternoon hours, however, persistent moist
southwest flow atop the shallow cool layer will continue to foster
showers and light rain through much of the day. This will be
especially true over the Delta where isentropic ascent will be the
strongest. Saturated soils over the Delta and persistent rain has
resulted in areal flooding with lots of standing water being
reported by emergency management officials. An areal flood warning
was issued and will continue into the afternoon for any locations
that remain flooded. Temperatures will hold steady for most
locations as the cool airmass and associated low-level cold air
advection, cloud cover and showers will prevent any warming. No
major changes were made to the ongoing forecast. /TW/
Prior discussion below:
Today through tonight: A cold front will continue to push south
across the forecast area today, and eventually move into the
northern Gulf of Mexico by this evening, where it is forecast to
stall. Meanwhile, moist southwest flow aloft will ascend the
frontal slope and result in additional rain across the ArkLaMiss
region, with the greatest moisture convergence generally
remaining over the soaked northwest portions of the forecast area
where the current flash flood watch is located. Rainfall rates are
not all that impressive early this morning in the watch area with
observations showing up to half an inch/hr at most, but given the
high precipitable water airmass (> 1.5 inches) and sufficient
instability for deep convection (most unstable CAPE > 500 j/kg),
will keep the watch going. As a shortwave trough moves east across
the Southern Plains and approaches the forecast area tonight, it
will induce a frontal wave, and we should see rain redevelop and
become widespread by daybreak. /EC/
Tuesday through Sunday: The upper trough will quickly swing
through the region on Tuesday as cyclogenesis deepens at the
surface over the northern Gulf. Due to the positioning of the
surface and upper lows, severe storms are not expected over the
CWA. Some deep convection will continue on Tuesday but with the
swift movement of the trough the precip will push quickly off to
the east by late Tuesday. With northwest flow aloft and surface
high pressure following the exit of the trough, conditions will be
quiet with near normal temps expected through the rest of the
week. Highs will be in the upper 50s to mid 60s with lows in the
upper 30s to low 40s across the area. An upper shortwave will dive
down from the Colorado Rockies into the southern Plains on Friday
and knick our area late Friday into Saturday. Some rain will
likely affect our CWA with this system but it's uncertain how much
at this time. The southwestern parts of the area will have the
best chances for rainfall as the trough weakens as it begins its
move around the base of the upper longwave trough situated over
the eastern US. Otherwise, the remainder of the forecast will be
quiet with near normal temps continuing into next week. /10/
