.NEAR TERM...(Tonight)
Issued at 856 PM CDT Wed Mar 17 2021

Numerous/widespread showers/tstms continue across much of the cntrl
TN Valley this Wed evening, as a cold front begins to approach NW AL.
Intense rainfall is occurring with some of these storms, with reports
of flooded roads received from locations in NW AL into the I-65
corridor area. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect thru 7 AM Thu
morning.

Much of north AL is also under a Tornado Watch thru midnight. The
threat for strong/severe tstms though is a little more uncertain as
the warm front remains located from NW AL into the cntrl half of the
state. Much of the warm sector thus far has remained just south of
the area, and this has offset the development of severe storms for
much of the mid TN Valley. Nevertheless, any movement in the warm
front to the north thru the evening hrs may still result in the
development of severe tstms, capable of damaging winds, large hail
and a few tornadoes.

The front itself should begin to move thru the area after midnight,
with showers/tstms gradually tapering off from the west with the
passage of the front. Early morning lows still look to fall mainly
into the lower/mid 50s for most spots.

.SHORT TERM...(Thursday through Friday)

The overall wx pattern is then expected to turn more quiet/seasonal
heading towards the end of the work week, as a large area of high
pressure out of the nrn Plains builds into the Midwest/OH Valley
states. Afternoon highs Thu/Fri look to range from the mid 50/near
60F, while lows Thu night trend in the lower/mid 40s.

.LONG TERM...(Friday night through Tuesday)

The quiet pattern continues into the weekend period, as the sfc high
moves into the mid/NE Atlantic states. This should allow for a
gradual warming trend into next week, as highs climb more into the
60s. Optimal radiational cooling may also allow overnight lows to
trend in the mid 30/near 40F thru Mon night. The next chance of rain
still looks to develop on Tue, as another cold front approaches from
the west.

.AVIATION...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Thursday evening)

Restricted flying conds remain in place heading into the evening hrs
this Wed, as num/wide shra/tsra continue to spread NNE into the area
ahead of a cold front approaching from the west. Cigs near 1-2K ft
coupled with vis near 2-3SM are possible in/near any of the heavier
precip. MVFR cigs in fact look to remain in place well into the day
Thu. Sfc winds also look to turn more S/SW near 10-12kt with higher
gusts later tonight. Wind shear out of the S/SW near 40kt will also
be in place early in the TAF period.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for north Alabama and portions of
southern middle Tennessee.

.DAY ONE...Tonight...

Numerous to widespread thunderstorms are expected through the evening
hours, as a cold front gradually moves eastward across the region.
Some of these storms will be strong to severe in nature and will be
capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes. A few
storms may in fact be capable of producing significant damaging winds
and violent, long-track tornadoes later this evening. The severe
weather threat is expected to taper off to the east early Thursday
morning following the passage of the cold front.

In addition to the threat for severe thunderstorms, multiple rounds
of locally heavy rainfall will lead to an enhanced risk for flash
flooding through tonight, as well as river flooding that may persist
through the end of the week. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through
7 AM Thursday morning.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday...

No hazardous weather is expected at this time.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Activation of storm spotters and emergency management personnel is
requested through early Thursday morning.

Please relay any information about observed severe weather to the
NWS while following all local, state, and CDC guidelines.

...SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR LAUDERDALE...COLBERT...EASTERN
FRANKLIN AND LAWRENCE COUNTIES UNTIL 915 PM CDT...

At 849 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from 6 miles east of Iuka to near Tuscumbia to 6
miles north of Needmore. Movement was to the north-northeast at 65
mph.

Penny size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with
these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Florence, Muscle Shoals, Russellville, Sheffield, Tuscumbia, Moulton,
Phil Campbell, Killen, Town Creek and Cherokee.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Strong gusty winds will be capable of knocking down small tree limbs
along with other small unsecured items. Seek safe shelter until this
line of storms has passed.

Very heavy rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

At 914 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Falkville to near Dodge City to Sumiton.
Movement was northeast at 45 mph.

Penny size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with
these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Cullman, Hanceville, Good Hope, Holly Pond, Dodge City, Baldwin,
Vinemont, Baileyton, West Point and Garden City.
