* At 2:00 PM CDT Saturday the stage was 19.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 19.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage this 
  evening and continue falling to 8.6 feet early Thursday afternoon.
* Impact...At 19.0 feet, minor lowland flooding will occur from 
  below Easterly to below Highway 21. Cattle in the flood plain 
  could be affected.

Update:
Aside from fine-tuning PoPs through the short term, few
significant changes were made to the forecast with this update.

Our upper low is drifting northward through Central Texas as of 6
AM and is contributing to the development of widespread showers
and a few thunderstorms. MRMS QPE and rain gauges near Austin
have recorded rainfall of 1-1.5" in under an hour with ongoing
activity south of our forecast area. This is a harbinger of the
efficient rainfall that should be able to occur up the I-35
corridor later today as the upper low continues to drift into
North Texas with similar 1.7-1.9" PW values in place. This type of
convection will certainly have the ability to result in minor
flooding, and perhaps even an instance or two of flash flooding if
south-north oriented cell training occurs. Wouldn't be surprised
if an isolated total close to 3-4" occurred in the vicinity of
the I-35 corridor.

Otherwise, recent CAM guidance still depicts a decent chance for
a storm complex to impinge on our western zones late tonight into
early Tuesday, and have raised PoPs into the 30-40% range to
address this potential for now.

An upper low that has been parked over the western Gulf of Mexico
the past few days has finally been reabsorbed into the
mid-latitude flow aloft and will progress northward up the I-35
corridor today. This will culminate in rather high rain chances
for much of the CWA, with some heavy rainfall possible along the
N-S oriented PW axis also centered near I-35. Am expecting
numerous showers and isolated storms to increase over the next
6-10 hours and persist through this afternoon or early evening as
the upper low and associated vorticity center move northward. With
tropical-like moisture content still in place, some heavy
rainfall is certainly possible, and training cells could
conceivably produce isolated rain totals in the 2-3" range in a
short time period. Flooding will therefore be the main concern
today, but with steepening lapse rates ahead of the upper low,
cannot rule out more robust convection that could also produce
low-end hail/wind threats. Much like the past few days, some cells
could display transient rotation simply due to the strong
environmental vorticity that will be moving overhead.

Most of the activity associated with the upper low should be
exiting the area to the northeast sometime early this evening
with perhaps some dry time towards the end of the day. Our
attention will then turn to the west where an active dryline
should have ignited another round of West Texas convection. With
upper-level flow transitioning to a more zonal orientation in the
wake of the upper low's departure, we'll have to keep an eye on
the chance for decaying convection to be steered towards our
western zones around midnight or after. There is low confidence in
this scenario given the time frame is still 24-30 hours out, but
this potential will need to be monitored through the day.

.LONG TERM... /Issued 314 AM CDT Mon May 24 2021/
/Tuesday Onward/

Periods of showers and storms are likely to continue through the
rest of the week and into the weekend. Overall, no single day will
be a complete washout but temporary bouts of showers and storms
may interrupt some outdoor activities. High temperatures will be
in the lower to mid 80s much of the week, with the warmest day
expected to be Thursday. Thursday will also be the day with no
precipitation chances during the daytime hours.

Mid and upper level southwesterly flow will continue to be in
place as we go through much of the week. Compact, transient
shortwaves will emerge off the higher terrain to our west and
southwest, each supplying just enough forcing for ascent to
develop showers and storms mainly across West Texas Tuesday and
Wednesday along a dryline. The storm motion would push any
convection toward our region, likely as a decaying complex of
showers/storms. Regardless of whether the storms arrive or not,
they should generate a cold pool that then pushes into our region.
Sufficient surface convergence along with a steady stream of
moisture should lead to scattered afternoon showers and storms
wherever the boundaries set up. The convection-allowing models
typically struggle in exact placement of remnant boundaries this
far out, therefore, confidence remains low on coverage and
location of afternoon showers and storms.

Although the overall severe weather remains low, a few strong
storms can't be ruled out Tuesday afternoon across Central Texas
given the elevated instability. Deep layer shear will remain on
the low side, keeping the threat of severe weather at bay. The
main threats would likely be strong winds and small hail.

A strengthening area of high pressure centered around Durango,
Mexico will creep into our region on Thursday, leading to a dry
day for all of North and Central Texas. The dry conditions will be
short-lived as another round of showers and storms is possible
Thursday night. Thursday's highs are likely to top out in the 80s,
with a few lower 90s possible around Graham to Breckenridge.

By the weekend, a pattern more typical of late May and early June
will turn our attention to our west and northwest as nocturnal
storm complexes roll across the Southern Plains. Most guidance is
on board with the first round of convection developing late
Thursday night somewhere from southern Kansas to the Texas
Panhandle. Depending on where the convection actually develops, it
is possible the our next round of storms arrives early Friday
morning. A similar scenario is possible Saturday morning as a
shortwave moves across Oklahoma. It is yet too early to highlight
any potential impacts from the possible storm complexes moving
through our area this weekend. For that reason, make sure to come
back the next couple of days as we begin to get a clearer picture
of the environment that will be in place.

A northward-moving upper low in Central Texas is resulting in the
development of showers and isolated thunderstorms which will
continue spreading northward today. Abundant low-level moisture
ahead of this feature is also resulting in expansive MVFR/IFR
cigs which should continue to increase in coverage over the next
few hours. While light rain has already spread into both the Waco
and DFW areas, instability remains rather marginal this far
north, and thunder will likely need to wait a few more hours
until a steepening of lapse rates provides instability sufficient
for TSRA near the TAF sites. Have delayed thunder timing a few
hours from previous TAFs, but still expect several hours of heavy
rain and lightning impacts to the airports beginning late this
morning continuing through much of the afternoon.

A break in precip activity is expected by this evening, perhaps
after 23z or so when a window of VFR is possible. However, a
return to MVFR cigs is expected later tonight into Tuesday
morning. There is also a potential for West Texas convection to
consolidate into a complex and push towards North Texas Tuesday
morning, and will include some VCSH overnight to address this.
This convection likely would not be very robust by the time it
would reach any of the TAF sites.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for North and Central Texas.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.
Showers with isolated embedded thunderstorms will be possible today.
The main hazard today will be flooding given the potential for heavy
rain. A few strong wind gusts and small hail cannot be ruled out
either.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.
Storm chances will continue each day through Sunday, mainly during
the early morning hours and once again in the afternoon. Severe
weather is not expected but gusty winds will be possible across
Central Texas Tuesday afternoon.
