.SYNOPSIS...
Unsettled conditions continue into Saturday as another low
pressure systems tracks across the area bringing an additional
threat of winter weather.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 1055 AM EST Friday...

Late morning surface analysis shows a weak area of low pressure
offshore of the Carolina coast with Arctic high pressure over
the nrn Plains/Upper Midwest. This high is ridging into the
Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Accumulating snow has ended and mid
levels have (temporarily) dried out, but low-levels remain
saturated across most areas. This is resulting in FZDZ/-FZRA in
areas where temps are below freezing (everywhere except for far
SE VA/NE NC). It is a bit drier on the Lower MD Ern Shore where
T/Td depressions are close to 10 degrees F. Guidance continues
to hint that pockets of FZDZ will persist through much of the
day/tonight (before more appreciable pcpn starts to move in by
Saturday morning...associated with our next system). Areas
across far SE VA/NE NC will see drizzle or light rain through
tonight. Went ahead and extended the going Winter Wx Advisory
until midnight (which matches up with the start time of the
Winter Storm Watch) to account for an additional few hundredths
of an inch of icing (additional icing is most likely across
central, south-central, and interior SE VA). Have lowered highs
by a couple of degrees across the area, with NW zones only
getting to ~30F. Highs are forecast to be aob 32F for roughly
the NW two-thirds of the FA. Temperatures will remain in the
upper 30s-low 40s across the SE corner of the area. Temperatures
will only fall a couple of degrees tonight as NNE flow/low
clouds persist.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 410 AM EST Friday...

Attention then turns to the next system which has the potential to
bring significant icing to the area tonight into Saturday. Trend in
the 00z model suite was to slow the progression of the precip into
the area on Saturday with the bulk of the heavier QPF now expected
to arrive after sunrise. This delay will allow for a degree or two
of extra warming before the heavier QPF arrives which would tend to
favor northwestern areas for the greatest ice accumulation. With
continued uncertainty have kept the Winter Storm Watch as is with
this package and will let the day shift have a look at the 12z model
guidance. That said, the potential remains for significant icing of
0.25-0.50" across the western half of the area, roughly along and
west of I-85 extending NE through Richmond and up to the Northern
Neck.

Precip will wane in intensity from NW to SE Saturday evening with
temperatures remaining below the freezing mark generally along and
west of I-95 with cold rain for areas to the east. Overnight lows
Saturday night will fall into the low 30s west of 95 with low and
mid 30s to the east. Upper 30s and low 40s for SE VA and NE NC.
Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by late morning
into the afternoon on Sunday. Models show the potential for
additional light rain later on Sunday after a relative lull in the
morning.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 200 PM EST Friday...

A couple more systems will move through the area early next
week. Both the ECMWF and GFS have continued to show a warmer
solution for the storm system on Tuesday. The storm tracks is
looking to be right over our area, which would mean all rain
on Tuesday. Temps will likely reach the mid to upper 40s for
central VA and Delmarva, and mid 50s to low 60s across SE VA
and NE NC Tuesday afternoon. Widespread rain is more likely
during the early morning hours on Tuesday with drying conditions
for the afternoon.

Drying will continue into Wednesday as the edge of the arctic
high pressure moves into the region. We aren't expecting the
arctic cold but temperatures will drop into the 20s across
central VA and 30s farther south and near the coast.

Next storm system will move in Thursday morning. It looks like a
more inland track as well. There is a chance for freezing rain
northwest of Richmond early Thursday morning, otherwise all
rain.

.AVIATION /19Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 200 PM EST Friday...

IFR will prevail through the TAF period, for the exception of
KSBY. Conditions will deteriorate for KSBY to IFR Saturday
morning. DZ (FZDZ for KRIC) will continue through the evening.
Fog may form across the area tonight with vis 3-5 SM. Heavier
rain (Freezing Rain at KRIC) will move in Saturday morning with
ceilings around 400-600 and continue through 18z Saturday.

The next portion of the storm brings increasing moisture and
mainly RA to ORF/ECG/PHF Sat/Sat night and FZRA to RIC (with a
mix possible at SBY). Yet another low pressure system approaches
from the SW Mon and will impact he region Mon night/Tue.

.MARINE...
As of 320 AM EST Friday...

Strong NE winds prevail early this morning over the region as
the local waters remain located in between strong sfc high
pressure centered to the N, and low pressure off the SE US
coast. Winds are 20-25kt with gusts to 30kt on avg over most of
the Bay, the coastal waters, and the Currituck sound. Seas have
risen to 7-8 ft over the southern VA and NE NC coastal waters,
with 5-7 ft to the N. Waves in the Bay are 3-4 ft, with 5 ft at
the mouth of the Bay and waves in the rivers are around 3 ft in
the lower James, and likely 1-2 ft elsewhere. SCA flags remain
in effect for all waters except the upper James, York and
Rappahannock rivers today though Sat. The high res guidance
suggest that conditions may fall a little below SCA thresholds
this aftn over the upper Bay, but with winds likely to increase
again this evening/tonight, decided to include all of the Bay
in the extended period with SCA headlines. The pressure gradient
is expected to relax a bit by Sunday so conditions will
generally drop a little below SCA thresholds, though seas are
expected to linger at 5ft or higher along the coast into at
least Tue. A fair amount of model spread is present with
respect to the next system that impacts the region by Tue so
have made only minimal changes to the winds for Tue-Wed and
largely followed the National Model Blend.

lower James/lower Bay and coastal waters from Northampton Co VA
on south. Current forecast has several sites approaching minor
flood thresholds with the upcoming high tide cycle later this
morning. While a few sites could reach or just exceed minor
flood levels, current thinking is that most of them will fall
just below so for now have issued a coastal flood statement.
Overall, as winds diminish a bit this aftn and back a bit to the
N (from NE), expectation is that departures will fall a bit and
no additional flooding is forecast at this time.
