A weak front will produce small craft winds over the eastern Gulf
through Sunday. The persistent high pressure over northwestern 
Canada will continue to weaken, relaxing the strong northeasterly 
gradient that has been in place over southeastern Alaska that has 
been producing strong outflow winds there. Then, a ridge of high 
pressure builds in from the southwest over the Gulf and Panhandle 
areas through Tuesday night.

Southeast Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SHORT TERM.../Wednesday night through Friday/...After a very cold
Wednesday morning, the afternoon has warmed up nicely with temps
in the teens and 20s for most. And it looks like we'll see the
slightly warmer weather build for the second half of the week.
That being said, the cold and the strong wind is still something
to consider in the near short term.

A high wind warning is in in effect until this evening for
Juneau, Skagway, and the South Klondike Highway due to wind gusts
nearing 60 mph. This will cause wind chill values to be low. Below
zero for Juneau and between 30 and 50 below zero for the South
Klondike Highway. And due to those much colder wind chills, a Wind
Chill Advisory will be in effect until noon Friday.

The cold and the wind will cause issues in the marine areas as
well. Heavy Freezing Spray Warnings along with Gale Warnings and
Small Craft Advisories are issued as well.

Our current weather pattern is brought to you by a strong high
pressure over Canada and lower pressure over the gulf. But warmer
weather will slide into the panhandle so highs Thursday will be
mostly in the 20s with Friday temps reaching the 20s and 30s. Lows
will be in the teens to lower 20s. And the sky over the panhandle
will continue to be clear to mostly clear and quiet through the
short term forecast period.

.LONG TERM...Friday through Tuesday...As of 9 PM Tue...Little
change at the start of the extended with cool temps and outflow
continuing. Pattern begins to change this weekend as high pressure
that has been over YT begins to slide S through BC. There is
potential for Taku winds to develop as cross barrier flow
increases as the high moves through BC, so increased winds Fri
into Sat but confidence in timing and strength are low. Pattern
continues to change over the weekend with guidance showing a front
pushing into the gulf late this weekend into early next week. This
will bring increased chances of precip next week. Given the cold
airmass in place to start the extended and parent low progged to
stay W of AK peninsula, expect precip will be snow. Precip chances
increase heading into the middle of next week, but with it comes
some WAA so there could be a change from solid to liquid precip S
to N at the end of the extended. Overall forecast confidence
remains average.
