southwest of Haida Gwaii by Monday morning. A ridge of  high

into multiple weak surface circulations as the entire complex
moves southeast through Monday. A ridge of high pressure will
weaken as it shifts east, to be over the eastern Gulf by Tuesday
afternoon.

A ridge of high pressure over the gulf shifts east on Wednesday
as a low end gale force front approaches the panhandle Wednesday
evening. The front moves through the panhandle Thursday as a high
pressure ridge moves into the gulf ahead of the next front 
arriving Friday.

.SHORT TERM.../Through Tuesday morning/ The hurricane force low
that made landfall early this morning continues to move away from
the area. In its wake, solid small craft winds remain for northern
Lynn Canal and gusty winds continue for southern Lynn Canal, Icy
Strait and Cross Sound. These are expected to diminish this
evening and overnight, leaving a much calmer day tomorrow. The
last of the High Wind Warnings for Skagway is being cancelled with
this forecast package. The Flood Watch for the Juneau area was
cancelled earlier as rivers and streams appear to have crested and
rainfall rates have diminished. Onshore flow remains, with
showers and thunderstorms through tonight. Lightning has been
observed from Yakutat all the way to Ketchikan, so kept a mention
of thunder in the forecast for a good chunk of the panhandle into
Sunday morning. The Winter Weather Advisory for White Pass is also
being cancelled with the afternoon package as precipitation is
expected to diminish.

Tomorrow, along with the much calmer day wind-wise, expect showers
to diminish in coverage throughout the day, heading towards nicer
weather with breaks in the clouds for Monday and especially for
Tuesday. With the breaks in the clouds expect cooler night-time
temperatures and potential for fog. Added some fog to the Yakutat
forecast for Tuesday morning. Some areas are also forecast to see
lows close to freezing for the first time this fall.

.LONG TERM.../Monday through Saturday as of 10 pm Friday/ The
upper level pattern offers a substantial shift in the extended
range. A broad trough over much of the area will slowly give way
to ridging over the gulf by mid next week. Past mid week though,
the overall pattern becomes murky as there are increasingly strong
indications of an active trough/ridge pattern setting up once more.
However, timing and strength of the individual features varies
widely between models. Overall the general trend in the forecast
mainly consists of a drier, cooler, and less active early to mid
week period followed by a more active and wetter late week period.

Closer to the ground, there will be a few features of note: One
is the lingering low in the gulf early in the week. The lingering
low early in the week is what remains of the powerful system that
brought the higher winds and heavy rain in the short range. A pale
shadow of its former self by this point, its last gasp will be
lingering chances for rain through parts of Monday. strong W flow
across the southern gulf will be the bigger concern. Ended up
increasing winds to 25 kt in southern 310 and into 41 Sun because
of this.

Things dry out early to mid week due to developing ridging in the
gulf and more offshore flow developing. Temperatures at this time
will be cooler then normal across the panhandle as lingering cold
air from the strong trough from the weekend will still be around,
and some breaks in the clouds develop. In fact, some areas in the
northern and central panhandle, may see their first freeze of the
season mid next week.

The next front which could take aim at the panhandle comes later
in the extended period, but agreement on it remains poor. Wide
variations in timing, intensity, and location all make nailing the
specifics down a challenge at this time. Yet another system could
impact SE AK going into the weekend, but again, confidence in any
specifics remains low.
