.SHORT TERM.../ Through Saturday Night / A vertically stacked low
near Cordova will continue slowly weakening into very early
Saturday. About this feature snow showers, mixed with rain for the
southern panhandle.

A wave pulling northeast out of the eastern pacific will push it's
frontal boundary and precipitation into the southern panhandle
starting about midnight. As the front advances, a warm up of the
lower atmosphere will occur as far east as Behm Canal, keeping
the Misty Fjords area on the colder side. The precipitation should
be rain from Frederick Sound southward, except Misty Fjords. A
mix in the central panhandle perhaps as as far north as Icy
Strait. Think the Juneau area will likely stay as snow, but a mix
is possible. Best chance for rain or snow will over the southern
half.

A burst of strong small craft to minimum Gale force approaches the
southeast gulf / west of Prince of Wales Island / and Clarence
Strait for this evening, so expect briefly windy conditions
overnight into early Saturday morning. As the low pulls into the
south central panhandle during saturday, the pressure gradient
over the northern Lynn Canal area tightens up so should see and
increase of northerly winds to 25 to 30 kt Saturday into Saturday
evening.

.LONG TERM.../Sunday through Wednesday as of 4 PM Friday/ To start
the period, a weakening low will have moved across the southern
panhandle. A low then moves into the NE gulf bringing onshore
showers across the panhandle. Temperatures cool Saturday night
across the north and central panhandle priming the environment for
snow showers through Sunday. Across the south, rain showers can
be expected. Given the nature of snow showers, accumulations and
rates will be highly variable over small distances. Consistent
accumulations look favorable Sunday, but not expecting any rates
to prompt any winter advisories/warnings at this time.

Low confidence in the long term forecast has limited any major
changes. One area of focus was on a storm that moves into the Gulf
Monday through Tuesday. Confidence is increasing that this system
could bring storm force winds through the Gulf as well as heavy
snow across the north and heavy rain across the south. The
question is how well will the cold air remain over the central and
northern panhandle before the southerly flow warms temperatures
above freezing. Will continue to monitor this system as additional
model runs come into view. Depending on the track of the low,
winter products may be needed for accumulating snow. As for the
overall pattern through the long term, wetter and cooler
conditions look favorable leading to active weather. As upper
level troughing persists over the Gulf, multiple rounds of storms
followed by onshore flow move through SEAK.
