.SHORT TERM...Surface ridge building over the eastern gulf and
Southeast Alaska and increasing amplitude through Saturday
afternoon and night. Expect to see the lingering isolated showers
over the panhandle this evening ending by morning. The ridge axis
will be shifted east into Canada Sunday morning as the next system
advances on the panhandle.

Breaks in the clouds and some cooler temperatures tonight is
lowering some lows into the lower 30s to upper 20s. Southeast
Alaska has entered the official growing season, so with these
cooler temperatures have issued a few Frost advisories for
tonight.

The next weather systems moves across the gulf Sunday and reaches
the southwest panhandle coastline Sunday evening then it will
progress into the remainder of the area by Monday morning.

Winds ahead of this front are expected to be 25 to 30 kt so Small
Crafts will be out for the outer coastal regions. After that, flow
on the south side of the low over the northern gulf, so westerly
winds across the southern gulf.

.LONG TERM.../Monday through Saturday as of 10 pm Friday/ A
persistent wet forecast is in store for the long range forecast
as we stay in the soggy, but predictable series of low pressure
systems impacting the region with short breaks in between. That
being said, as we open the period, a front will be moving across
the region. Greatest impacts will be in the southern panhandle
where some locations could see an inch or two of total rain from
this event through Monday night. A strengthening pressure gradient
also could push some gusty winds into the ocean entrances of
Chatham and Clarence Straits. After the main front passes, precip
becomes more showery in nature due to onshore flow, but PoPs
decrease Tuesday night into Wednesday. For some areas, there may
even be a chance for some of the clouds to break out during the
day but don't get too used to it, because another low is on the
way. As has been the case the past several nights, models are
still having trouble coming to any sort of reasonable consensus on
the track and intensity of this low. The timing appears to be
coming into better agreement though in that the impacts will be
upon the panhandle by Thursday, perhaps as early as around
sunrise, but beginning to look more likely to be a bit later in
the day. Still have plenty of time to evaluate the possibilities
and see if guidance can achieve unanimity so for now still a bit
soon to speculate further. Beyond this, the disagreement continues
so have maintained some PoP to account for potential showery
activity if flow does turn back onshore before the next low
arrives late in the forecast period on Saturday.
