.SYNOPSIS FOR THE EASTERN GULF OF ALASKA...
A front over the eastern Gulf and panhandle will track northward
through Monday morning. Another frontal trough will follow a 
similar path across the region through Monday night. High pressure
builds over the panhandle Tuesday.

.SHORT TERM...Weather front moving across the Gulf of Alaska and
approaching the coastline south Sitka this evening. High clouds
associated with the feature are already thickening up the clouds
and closing any of the breaks in that was around earlier in the
day. Should have steady rain across the SW panhandle by midnight,
and to the Cross Sound Juneau line by 6 am then the northern
panhandle by mid morning. Scattered light rain may start a couple
hours before that estimate. A secondary trough trailing along
behind the first front will push a partially organized band of
showers into the panhandle Monday evening and night.

Tuesday has a surface high ridge building northward over the
eastern gulf and into the panhandle. This ridge will start to cut
off the onshore flow and limit showers for the panhandle region
for Tuesday, while showers for the NE gulf coast will be numerous
or widespread.

Southeast winds for much of the southern panhandle to start while
the northern section will start with a north to northeast
direction. As the front sweeps north, the direction for the rest
of the panhandle will go southerly. Winds should stay in the 10 to
20 mph at the worst, with a few higher gusts.

.LONG TERM.../Tuesday through Sunday as of 10 pm Saturday/ Showers
will be occurring at the start of the forecast period under
onshore flow left behind by a front that passed through the
previous day. Expecting PoPs to decrease through the day and into
the night Tuesday as weak ridging builds over the region.
Wednesday will be a break day for most locations and some areas of
the northern panhandle may even see enough breaks in the clouds to
be treated to some sunshine. In previous days, our next potential
weather maker was being handled very differently by various
models, but there is beginning to be some better agreement. A
rather deep low pressure system will track south of the region
Wednesday into Thursday. A sfc trough to the north of this low may
extend far enough north to induce precip for the panhandle with
southern and coastal areas being most likely to see anything late
in the day on Wednesday and into Thursday. Offshore flow around
the low's pressure gradient may impede any chances of
precipitation though, so hopefully future model runs can provide
more clarity on what impacts can be anticipated from this system.
By Friday, flow turns back onshore and reintroduces the
possibility for showers. On Saturday, another front looks probable
to sweep through the region, bringing another round of rain to
the panhandle.

.MARINE...25 to 30 kt Small Craft winds for the outer coastal
areas and into Clarence Strait with the front coming into the
area. Strong wind out over the east central gulf has a section of
gale force winds along the front tonight. Remainder of the inner
channels should stay at 20 kt or less.
