continues to push inland along the West Coast this morning. The 
front will push rapidly east into the Western Interior today and

.SYNOPSIS...
Wet conditions continue across the Central and Eastern Interior
this afternoon. Rain will continue to slide east and dissipate
tonight ahead of a strong front that will spread rain and snow
across the West Coast and North Slope beginning tonight. This
front will bring a mix of rain and snow to the Central and
Eastern Interior tomorrow night. Multiple inches of snow expected
in higher elevations of the Brooks and Alaska Ranges, while snow
will reach as low as 2000 feet for portions of the Interior
Thursday night and into Friday morning.

.DISCUSSION...
The upper levels of the atmosphere will be transitioning over
mainland Alaska going through the weekend and into early next
week. Currently, general troughing is dominating the pattern, with
a shortwave situated across the Western Interior this afternoon.
This trough will move south of the Alaska Range by tonight. A
strong closed low over the high Arctic will swing a strong wave
across the West Coast by tonight and then continue to dig south of
the Alaska Range, with a closed low developing south of the Alaska
Range by Friday afternoon. Models seem to becoming more in line
with this evolution as opposed to previous runs, which would
increase confidence that widespread, seasonably abnormal cold
will spread across northern Alaska going into the weekend.

Ridging looks to build in across the West Coast beginning on
Saturday and moving east into the Interior by Sunday. Model
discrepancies are large enough at this time to decrease confidence
in how strong this ridge will be and how far east this ridge will
build into the Interior. The strong closed low in the high Arctic
will remain in that general region going into next week.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Rain showers across the region will taper off this evening. Cloudy
conditions will persist tomorrow ahead of more precipitation
developing across the area as a front will move in from the west
tomorrow night. Due to being a strong Arctic push of cold air with
this system, colder temperatures will settle into the area going
into the weekend. With that being said, multiple inches of snow
expected in the Alaska Range, with a dusting of snow in higher
elevations across the Interior above 2000 feet. As the
precipitation exits the Interior Friday evening, clearing skies
will result in temperatures below freezing in the hills and near
freezing in the valleys Friday night. A warming trend expected
beginning on Sunday and lasting into the beginning of next week.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
A weather front will move across the North Slope and Brooks Range
beginning tonight and lasting through tomorrow. Primarily rain,
with snow mixing in at times is expected along the Arctic Coast
and lower elevations of the North Slope Plains. Primarily snow
expected in the Brooks Range above 1000 feet, with 2-4 inches
through Friday afternoon. Elevated surf of 1 to 2 feet above the
high tide line on Thursday and Friday along the Western and
Northern Arctic Coasts as the surface low moves across the
Chukchi Sea bringing northwest winds 15 to 30 mph.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Scattered showers continuing into this evening before dissipating
tonight. A weather front will impact the West Coast beginning
tonight, and spread into the Western Interior by tomorrow morning.
Snow expected above 1000 feet with up to an inch of accumulation,
with higher amounts in the foothills of the Brooks Range north and
east of Ambler. Cooler temperatures will settle into the region as
seasonably abnormal cold Arctic air pushes south going into the
weekend. Elevated surf of 1 to 2 feet above the high tide line
expected on Thursday and Friday along the West Coast, mainly north
of the Bering Strait due to northwest winds of 15 to 30 mph.

Coastal Hazard Potential...
A strong surface low pressure will move east across the Chukchi
Sea, bringing pre-frontal southwest winds 15 to 30 mph tonight and
then post-frontal northwest winds 20 to 35 mph beginning Thursday
and continuing into Friday.

As a result, Special Weather Statements are in effect for
Elevated Surf of 1 to 2 feet above the normal high tide line is
possible along the Chukchi Sea Coast and Kotzebue Sound Coast from
Point Hope to Shishmaref Thursday and Friday.

Wave action is expected to wash to the top of the beach so
residents should secure items by moving them away from the beach.

The Fortymile River saw some sharp rises in water levels over the
last 24 hours but already begun to come down. Other rivers in the
area remain below bankfull with no issues expected going into the
