low moves into the southern Bering Sea this evening. This low will
move to near Nunivak Island by Sun morning at 1000 mb, where it

High pressure over the Bering Sea move into mainland Alaska as low
pressure in Chukotka pushes SE into the Chukchi Sea tonight and
merges with a 1002 mb low that will move near Nunivak Island Sun
morning. High pressure over the Siberian coast will push SE into
the Chukchi Sea Sun afternoon while low pressure holds on from the
Bering Strait S.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
Rain and rain showers will diminish tonight and Saturday with a
few peeks of the sun possible on Sunday. Another round of rain
moves into the Interior on Monday. High temperatures will run 5
to 10 degrees cooler than normal while low temperatures will be
near normal. A front will bring elevated surf to the Chukchi Sea
Coast tonight into Sunday.

.DISCUSSION...
The 20/120 UTC model suite initialized well when compared to
observational data. The models are in decent agreement with the
synoptic scale pattern out through the weekend and into early next
week. The models do differ some with the placement and timing
with the next round of preciptiation moving into the Interior on
Sunday night and Monday.

Aloft at 500 mb, a 549 dam low pressure trough currently over the
Western Interior will continue to push to the east and south and
will be centered over the the Yukon and Northern British Columbia
on Saturday. A 520 dam low over the Chukchi Sea will continue to
push south and east tonight and will be located 350 nm northwest
of Point Barrow by Saturday morning. Several shortwaves rotating
around this low will pass over the North Slope through Monday.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Rain will diminish late tonight and Saturday morning in the Alaska
Range and Eastern Interior as a front continues to push to the
east through the Eastern Interior. Additional rainfall amounts of
0.25 to 0.75 inches are expected, with the highest amounts
expected near the Alaska Range and lowest amounts anticipated
in the eastern Interior. Gusty west to southwesterly winds this
evening will diminish after midnight. Gusts of up to 20 mph are
possible through early evening. Snow levels will drop this
evening resulting in accumulating snow along some of the higher
spots along the Denali Park Road (up to three inches is possible
above 3700 feet). Snow may mix with rain tonight over Eagle Summit
Summit as well. We expect the precipitation to taper off tonight
as the front moves out of the area. Lows tonight will generally be
in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Some light lingering precipitation
is possible into Saturday morning, but. Skies will start to clear
out some on Saturday night. Lows Sunday morning could drop into
the 30s for many locations, with the colder spots expected to drop
below freezing, although this will depend on how quickly the
skies clear. Daytime highs on Sunday will be warmer thanks to less
cloud cover, with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
A front moving through the Eastern Interior will bring
precipitation to the Eastern Brooks Range into tonight, with the
majority of the precipitation with this system is expected to fall
on the south side of the range. About an inch of snow is possible
for Atigun Pass, with around a quarter of an inch of rainfall at
lower elevations. Southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph will develop
along the Chukchi Sea coast this evening as a front approaches
from the north. Winds will shift to become west and then
northwesterly Saturday as the front moves east along the coast,
with northwesterly winds of 20 to 30 mph persisting into early
Sunday. The winds will also produce elevated surf along the
Chukchi Sea Coast, with water levels 1 to 2 feet above the normal
high tide line tonight into Sunday morning. This front will also
bring rain from west to east across the area. Some light snow may
mix in with the rain behind the front Saturday night into early
Sunday, although no accumulation is anticipated at this time. In
the Brooks Range, precipitation associated with the front could
bring around an inch of snow to Atigun Pass. Saturday highs will
be in the upper 50s along the Beaufort sea coast due to strong
offshore winds ahead of the front, while the Chukchi Sea Coast
will only see highs in the 40s due to onshore flow behind the
front. Sunday will be cooler, with highs along the coast in the
upper 30s to lower 40s. Lows the next few nights will generally be
in the 30s.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Mostly cloudy skies and breezy over mush of the West Coast and
Western Interior as a low in the Central Interior continues to
push to the east. Any rainfall will taper off from west to east
this evening. High temperatures Saturday will generally be in the
50s with lows tonight and Saturday night in the 40s.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.
West to southwesterly flow is expected for much of next week.
Several shortwaves will pass through the flow bringing chances
for rain as they pass through. A system moving through late next
week looks to bring more significant chances for preciptiation,
although there is still a great deal of uncertainty in the timing
of systems moving through. Temperatures in the extended will
trend near to slightly below the seasonal normal.

No fire weather concerns are expected.

.HYDROLOGY...
A front currently over the Eastern Interior will bring another
0.25 to 0.75 inches of rain mainly to the Alaska Range and the
Eastern Interior before diminishing late tonight and Saturday.
Most rivers and streams will see some rises as this water moves
through the system; however, no issues are anticipated as all
rivers and streams are expected to remain in bank.
