.SYNOPSIS...
A front currently pushing into the Western Interior will continue
to bring rainfall to the West Coast and Western Interior tonight,
especially areas south of the Bering Strait. The front will push
east tonight and Friday, bringing precipitation to areas from the
Brooks Range south.

.DISCUSSION...
The 19/12 UTC model suite initialized well against the 12z surface
analysis and verified well against the 18z surface analysis. The
models are in good agreement in the short range and reasonable
agreement in the mid range and extended range. Only minor updates
on timing and feature position were made to the previous forecast
package.

Aloft at 500 mb a trough over the Bering Strait will push east
over the Western Interior tonight and over the Central Interior
and Eastern Interior on Friday. West to southwest flow aloft will
produce showery conditions over much of Northern Alaska south of
the Brooks Range Friday and Friday night. A ridge will build
briefly over the West Coast and Western Interior on Saturday and
Sunday.

On the surface a 1005 mb over St Lawrence Island will continue to
weaken and move east into Norton Sound tonight and the Western
Interior on Friday. A front rotating around this low will bring
wetting rains for most areas south of the Brooks Range into
Saturday with generally 0.50 to 1.25 inches of rain expected
through Saturday morning. The heaviest rainfall is expected in
the Western Alaska Range. High pressure builds in over Southwest
Alaska on Saturday night and over the Central Interior Sunday.

A 997 mb low 400 nm north of Point Barrow on Friday night will
produce gusty southwest winds Friday afternoon and night and
will produce gusty northwest winds Saturday along the the
Northwest Coast west of Point Barrow. Water levels of 1 to 2 feet
above normal high tides are expected along the Northwest Coast
Friday night into Sunday along the Chukchi Sea Coast from Point
Hope east to Utqiagvik.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Cloud cover will continue tonight as a system approaches from the
west. Rainfall associated with the front will arrive in the
Central Interior this evening and will push east tonight and
Friday. The heaviest rain is expected on Friday, with light rain
persisting into early Saturday. Rainfall will taper off from west
to east on Saturday. Generally speaking, storm total rainfall
amounts of 0.5 to 1.25 inches are expected, with the highest
amounts near the Alaska Range. Southwesterly winds will pick up
with the front on Friday, with some spots seeing gusts to around
20 mph. With the rainfall on Friday, temperatures will be cooler
with highs in the lower 50s. Lows on Friday night will be in he
upper 30s to lower 40s. Saturday, temperatures will warm slightly
into the upper 50s for highs.

West Coast and Western Interior...A front currently over the West
Coast and Southwest Alaska continues to bring rainfall to areas
mainly south of the Bering Strait. Rainfall continues to spread
into the western Interior by this evening and will continue
overnight before tapering off from west to east on Friday. Storm
total rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.0 inches expected, with locally
higher amounts possible. Westerly winds continue along the coast
from the Yukon Delta and over Norton Sound with gusts of 30 to 40
mph. Winds will die down on Friday as the low continues to move
inland. Highs temperatures in the 50s are expected for Friday.
Lows tonight and Friday night will generally be in the lower 40s.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Fog and lower stratus will continue along the coast tonight.
High pressure over McKenzie Delta will provide rather uneventful
weather with highs in the 40s near the coast and in the 50s
inland. A front moving through the Interior will bring precipitation
to the Brooks Range tonight and Friday. The majority of the
precipitation with this system is expected to fall on the south
side of the range. About an inch of snow is possible for Atigun
Pass. Southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph will develop along the
Chukchi Sea coast Friday evening as a front approaches from the
north. Winds will shift to become west and then northwesterly
Saturday as the front moves east along the coast, with
northwesterly winds of 20 to 30 mph persisting into early Sunday.
This front will also bring a mixture of rain and snow as it moves
from west to east across the area. The Along Shore and then On
Shore winds will produce water levels 1 to 2 feet above the normal
high tide line beginning Friday night and continuing into Sunday
morning.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4... Southwest winds of 25 to
35 mph will develop along the Chukchi Sea coast Friday evening.
Winds will shift to become west-northwesterly early Saturday, with
northwesterly winds of 20 to 30 mph persisting into early Sunday.
This will cause water levels of 1 to 2 feet above the normal high
tide line Friday night into Sunday along the Chukchi Sea Coast
from Point Hope east to Utqiagvik.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Wetting rains over the western Interior will continue to push east
and northeast into the Central and Eastern Interior tonight and
Friday. No significant Fire Weather concerns are expected through
the weekend.

.HYDROLOGY...
A front currently pushing into the Western Interior will bring
0.5 to 1.25 inches of rainfall as it moves across the area south
of the Brooks Range tonight and Friday. Most rivers and streams
will see some rises as this water moves through the system;
however, no issues are anticipated as all rivers and streams are
expected to remain in bank.
